I was reading an article in the guardian about the fight and it said that mayweather was in tears and a mess around an hour after the fight while the journos were preparing to ask him their questions. did this actually happen?

Those lazy journo's who wrote off solis all get to excersize their confirmation bias but the reality is that they were wrong. Solis did look like he could have made the fight very competitive. He was winning the round and the shot he did take landed while his left foot was slipping (the slip which damaged his cruciate ligaments in his right knee). Of course he could have gone on to lose but there was nothing to suggest, from the little we saw last night, that he was as heavily outmatched as these people were predicting. I'm not trying to undermine Vitali, I just wanted to ask: is anyone else getting sick of poor boxing journalists who can't read boxing? they just follow the hype train and put down underdogs because it's easy. Now they all get to say how brilliant they are at reading styles because solis had a freak injury which none of them were previously aware of.

There's no inherent difference between races, it's just that culturally if you're trained in black america you'll adopt a style more suited to hand speed and foot movement. Where as if you're trained in eastern or central europe (for example) you'll adopt a style more suited to heavy handedness, strength and a good chin, like arthur abraham. Successful fighters from different areas will have traits which most benefit whatever the local style is. Also, a history of a certain type of fighter will encourage those with similar traits to take up a sport and try to emulate a style. A history of coaching is massively important, There's no reason to think that a fighter from one area will have any more ring intelligence or technical ability outside of the level of coaching he has received. if you disagree you're wrong.

...if he hadn't have taken a break from boxing. I personally think that taylor is superior to green and would've had a greater chance of winning, also ward doesn't have the power of froch or abraham. I assume most believe ward would win and go in as a clear favourate (quite reasonably) but how good would taylor's chances have been?

He's overrated as fuck. His fight with cintron should have been a no contest, even after going to the cards it should have gone to cintron or possibly a draw because kermit probably won 3 rounds of the 4 scored. He lost to martinez. Sergio consistantly landed the cleaner punches. if this was amateur boxing, then yeah, maybe you could score it for PW but it's not and he lost. Does anybody here think that chavez should be given credit for his draw with whitaker, or tito for his win over de la hoya? He has poor head movement, his footwork is plodding. his workrate will give people problems and he's entertaining but lets not pretend like he's some top 5 pound for pound monster. Some puzzle of superior technique and intelligence. Once he loses his punch resistance (which given his defence he probably will, sooner rather than later) he's going to look fairly mediocre.

We saw DeMarco get a point deducted for an accidental hit using elbow. How fair is this in your eyes? This type of rule might stop the "clumsy" use of the head by the hopkins's of the world and make for a fairer fight with less cynical behaviour or it may punish someone who's opponent was at fault for an illegal collision (because their opponent is the one who gets cut or injured). Is it too random? if a fighter isn't judged to have done something intentionally why should they be punished?

Couldn't see a poll on the first few pages and I'm quite interested in what the results would be.

Arthur is going into the fight as a favourate but should he be? previously in fights he's given away early rounds and doesn't sustain the pressure that jermain taylor seem to faulter from. If he maintains this pattern will he lose? Abraham reminds me somewhat of a joshua clottey with power. Is it possible that their styles are dictated somewhat by their size, that is to say, how much does weight loss affect workrate? Clottey made cotto look tiny and abraham has lots of problems making weight. Abraham is bound to take the first few rounds off but will this higher weight improve his workrate enough later on in the fight?

I was listening to some analysis which suggested that hatton and de la hoya struggled against pacquiao partially due to their left handedness (although there were obviously more significant problems for them). That is to say, their straight right wasn't as developed or dominant as a right handed fighter thus taking away one of the greater threats they possess, allowing pacquiao to move towards his opponents right shoulder with relative ease. Is this accurate? does it apply to a potential match up with cotto and if so how significant a factor would it be? More specifically, how much does it affect his ability to throw effective shots with his left hand?
