I really don't like to get into this kind of racial stuff on here but a good way to test this theory is to take a similar style white boxer who doesn't have much in personality and see how he does in the States here.
Since Sergiy just got here I guess we need to wait for our answer after he gets a few wins on American TV.
My guess would be no he won't be more popular because Americans generally don't take to defensive style boxers unless they act like assholes.
I dont think there is a white fighter out there like Dawson, the slickest white fighter i can think of is Steve Molitor, but even then i dont think Molitor is on Dawsons level talent-wise.
No, I prefer boxer-punchers, not defensive runners and pittypatters. I've never been a fan of Malignaggi.
Seriously hope you are not trying to say Dawson is a pittypat puncher or a runner.
Go ask Adamek what he thinks of Dawson's punches.
I don't think so.
Chad's lack of popularity is more due to a lack of top opposition in his division. He is one of the most skilled operators in the game today, he just can't get fights against good enough guys.
Its not Chad's fault though. He has literally just been methodically going through the best the division has to offer and beating them comfortably. Can't do much more than that.
What gets me about these threads is...........
Lets say you are right, that Dawson would be more highly thought of if he were white, what are we saying, that its wrong for that to be the case if its true? it is wrong, but let me ask you something, if majority of people were black instead of white would you expect the situation to be any different?
Pretty sure there would be as many black red necks backing the black fighters due to race as there are red necks rooting for white guys.
Morale of the story is, majority race will always tap into how they can make the most money, if that is appealing to the ignorance of the majority race they are gonna do it, but it does not matter whether the majority race is black or white, still gonna happen, people feed prejudice the way they feed stereotypes.
well, i like him as a person. he's a humble dude, but it obviously doesn't cash checks. maybe if he fought like holyfield, he could get away with being soft spoken too.
I do too, but perhaps I should've worded it differently.
Dawson does seem like a quiet family man. What I meant is, he's not provocative with the way he speaks, he's not constantly throwing money around, showing up in Vegas wearing and showing diamonds off, etc.
Hopefully that clarifies somethings.
BTW, I do realize I pretty much described Mayweather. :lol1:
yeah, kelly pavlik was getting no love when he was unbeaten..... wtf are you on about?
As a boxing fan,I think Pavlik is trash. But the guy was in two FOTY candidates back to back against Miranda and Taylor on route to becoming Middleweight Champ. He also has that "blue collar" personality - American version of Hatton.
No, the race card is being played too easily in these situations. Dawson has no personality for starters. His style is beautiful to watch for boxing purists but the casuals wont fall in love with it. And he still doesnt have a defining win or performance.
All much bigger factors than the colour of his skin.
It's possible, but at the end of the day, dry wall has more personality than Dawson....and this is coming from someone who likes watching him fight.

chad dawson is just stuck at a weight, where there are no big fights for him.
168, would be good, if he can fight comfortably there.
Id say this.......
Dawson has spent too much time fighting the old guard in fights he was expected to win instead of progressing, plus because those guys are old he has done just enough, what he had to do, to beat them, no frills = no excitement, now in a fight where a younger guys is going to push him and is perceived to have a 50/50 chance of beating him, could be a different scenario.
Is this a serious question?
Because out of the 10 most popular American fighters of the last 50 years
Tyson, Holyfield, DLH, SRL, Hagler, etc
I'm having a hard time thinking of a single white guy. Gatti, maybe? Though I doubt he's top 10.
For the above post, Yuri Foreman is slick, damnit.:grr:
I also thought Dawson got edged out by a 39 yo Johnson (hitting Glen's gloves all night) and waited far too long for the rematch.
Let me just say that seeing a white guy fight that super slick with that much movement would be really weird.
I don't think I've ever seen a white guy half that slick. I do think Dawson is about as slick as they come though...
you ain't seen pep then dude
yeah, you might have to go back half a century to find a white guy that slick, but it is what it is. pep was amazing
I think he would be more popular if he was white. Only because there are so few good white American boxer's right now. I think part of Dawson's problem is there are so many good black American boxer's.

pavlik was getting the shit beat out of him in every fight even when he was unbeaten..what the **** are you on about?
