how can you list pavlik as a boxer but only recognize manny as a fighter. he has just as much boxing skill now as a martinez, who you list as both. just a bit odd. same with cotto, him and pac should be both fighter & boxer.
Donaire KO was expected from most of the boxing fans, more technically sound KO.
Martinez KO was coming from underdog, most unexpected KO.
Pacman KO was most entertaining. Whole fight action packed and KO was coming.
completely agree... i would say donaire & martinez are the most impressive though, pretty equal, both on near undefeated fighters, ranked in top 10 p4p & never been ko'd.
pac was the best fight, but hatton had fallen before, the great thing about all 3 of them though is that they were in big important fights, that were supposed to be close, fight of the year candidates but ended in a very early, impressive knockout. which of course makes the winning fighter much more popular, great for the sport.
I think Donaire or Khan could be two guys that have that potential to be #1, with their size in their divisions they could continue to move up in weight as well. Donaire could really be in contention for that #1 spot after a couple more fights against top competition.
LMAO How did he get exposed? He outworked and outclassed AA the whole entire fight, Stop being a nuthugger.
I personally think Dirrell is better, however after that KO last night , I may have to go with Ward. That could end up really hurting him, it may not, but being KO'd like that can be very bad for a guy. He was shaking on the ground and was completely out of it once getting back up. That shiit is not good.
I would have taken that same punch, this is boxing and AA is a knockout fighter, you don't stop throwing until the ref steps in. I do think he should have got a deduction and I don't mind the DQ since he did KTFO of Dirrell and if Andre had kept fighting he would have been at a huge disadvantage because of an illegal punch. But then again a guy like Cotto fought Clottey with a huge cut that was caused by a head butt. I don't think Dirrell was acting and if he was he should switch careers cause that was one hell of a performance he pulled off, but in my opinion he was hurt bad. People don't think it was a big punch but it was, it was a right from AA and it clipped his chin pretty good.
pacquiao has fought 10 times against top 10 p4p fighters. mayweather 5.
pacquiao has fought 6 fights against first ballot hofers. mayweather 1.
true that, these days you dont need to be a top 5 guy in a weight class to have a title. not discrediting floyd though, his accomplishments speak for themselves.
He should retire that's what I think... Unless he fights Pavlik.
ha , pavlik, i hope that is a joke. i think he will get past foreman. if he does it then i say williams, martinez or dzinziruk.
Well they are in a sense, they chirp each other a lot and if the fight ever happens it will be huge. However they haven't even fought yet, I consider boxing rivalries to be like Ali/Frazier, Morales/Barerra, Vazquez/Marquez, Robinson/LaMotta, I know most of those are trilogies, but when you go to war with a guy 3+ times, that is a real rivalry. Though they definitely are rivals, they hate each other, there both at the top of the sport and they have the possibility of fighting each other.
You make solid points, but first of all I think Manny has improved since fighting Marquez. Secondly, JMM can go to war, and take a very good punch, not saying Floyd cant but I have not seen him do it against an opponent like Manny. I think 140 and above is Pac's best weight but there is no doubt Floyd should give him some problems. However, if zab could give Floyd problems for half a fight then I think Manny could give him a lot of problems as well. He will be harder to figure out, has much better mental toughness, and I think the best stamina in the sport, plus he is a south paw with an unconventional style .
You said NEVER man. I said that was not true.
He came out of the gate against Corley, Gatti, Mitchell...But your original point was that he NEVER takes the first to his opponent and that is simply not true.
watched the gatti fight recently, floyd could have been way more offensive, he still mainly only threw counters, gatti threw less than 10 power punches a round. he was so shot in that fight it was disgusting, he had already been knocked out twice and been through a trilogy with ward. corley was a good win, though he has lost to pretty much every top fighter he has faced. i have watched a lot of floyd fights and he has faced some good guys and outclassed them but since leaving lightweight zab is the closest thing to fighting a real good fighter, and he has also lost to most top fighters he has faced. i cant wait to see how he does against a top WW, if he outclasses mosley i will totally respect him as a WW.
I hate UFC, but i hate the fact that hopkins and rjj are fighting, and people have to buy the fight. I would probably have to go with UFC, cause atleast there is a chance that a couple fights could be good standing up brawls.
I just can't take a are foot, glass jawed grappler seriously.Throwing girly arm punches doesn't rise their stock either.
Regardless of whether or not boxing lacks mainstream appeal at the moment, people will always have respect for a guy who throws and takes punches to the cranium for a living. It takes a special kind of human being to do this.
Nobody is ever going to respect a half naked meathead who gets rendered unconscious at the slightest of contact to the chin.
Ha , I can see you hate MMA too.
One catch weight fight against Cotto, questionably the best WW in the world at the time and Manny's first real WW fight. I know he fought Oscar at WW but Oscar was coming down from 154 and Manny coming up from 135. I think the catch weight was stupid because I think he could have done the same thing without it but its not like he was a WW asking for a catchweight against another WW, he had only had one fight at 140. And above 130 he had not fought anyone even close to as good as Cotto. I agree it weakens a guy more than a blood test but I don't think Manny should be criticized for the one catchweight fight, considering the circumstances.
i know..its almost as dumb as the Tito fans back in the day thinking he would beat Duran
I guess I am a dumb ass, shiiiit, I think manny would give duran a very good fight though, maybe beat him. in the thread the poster said at the weight of 140 as well.
The rope a dope is not letting your opponent hit you flush in the face. Don't get it twisted.
i know man. but you got to understand what i mean. he tries to get opponents to exchange with him. when i guy is being as defensive as clottey was, how can you do that? get him over confident, make him think he is landing punches that hurt you. all i am saying is, that is what he did with cotto a couple times in their fight. the 2 rounds i had cotto winning in their fight, were the 2 rounds he ended up getting floored in.
I personally don't think so, but Roach has said this numerous times and he seems to think so, though he also talks out of his ass a lot. If you got both guys to throw a five punch combo, I really think Manny would land his first. Though when I think of speed , I think of everything foot speed, movement around the ring, and from what i have seen Manny is faster and better than Khan at both of those as well. Is there any videos of these 2 guys sparring, would really like to see it?
so if you hate Floyd you are a boxing fan??
im not a big fan of either
but please explain your logic, because i dont understand
he said if you hate manny, you are not a boxing fan. which is stupid cuz anyone can hate anyone and still be a real boxing fan. However, i do find it stupid that there are some boxing fans that hate manny considering his very entertaining style.
His fans spend more time bashing Floyd and his fans instead of spending time talking about Pac.
Every boxer has stupid fans, but Pac's fans are Boxingscene's cancer.
No doubt, I think that is because he has attracted people to the sport that weren't hardcore fans before, I loved boxing before i became a fan of Manny so he isn't the sport for me, i just think he is the best in it right now. I know there are a lot of pac fans that don't know shiit about the sport, they only know that manny is really big right now and they like his style.
Duran would outbox, outfight and take everything Manny has to offer. Manny has speed in that fight and nothing more. Duran takes it 10 times out of 10.
Yeah I thought it was pretty dumb as well. But i believe people hate on Manny because his choice of opponents and the fact he created a 145 weightclass, and of course the FMJ fans probably hate on him.
fair enough, and i have only seen like 3 or 4 duran fights, and one of them was the hearns one, then again i saw the first one against leonard and the barkley one both which he looked sick in.
What are you talking about?
Clottey connected with the right hand and uppercuts every time he threw punches.
If Clottey was able to do that... just imagine what Floyd is going to do that when he's the best counter puncher in boxing, the smartest current boxer, and has a top 5 defense of all time.
He let Clottey hit him, the same way he let Cotto hit him, he was trying to get clottey to let his hands go. how can you not see that, and his strategy wouldn't be the exact same for floyd. i dont know how you think floyd can handle a strong, fast WW throwing nearly 100 punches at him around. He has never had to defend anything like that before.
Floyd is human, but he's never taken any serious punishment in the ring.
He was injured during the fight and made no excuses.
Judah didn't do shit after Floyd made his adjustments. Corley got lucky.
Judan and Corley was years ago. Floyd got better since he fought them. When has Floyd been in trouble since he became a star?
when has he fought someone good since he became a star? de la hoya is his best, and come on he wasn't awful at the time and was still a top fighter but on the downhill of his career and he would have lost to any top WW at the time.
Duran knocks him out.
Chavez knocks him out.
Pryor knocks him out.
Pac beats Kostya.
Why? If you don't mind me asking. Pac has never been KO'd over the age of 20, I don't think he has ever hit the canvas in that time either.
Anyways, I would have him beating all of them, I think his speed, power, movement and ability to take a punch would prove to be too much for all of them. Though Duran maybe would beat him, after that I would say chavez has the best chance, but I feel pretty strongly about Manny beating chavez.
I don't hate Manny. I can't stand most of stupid fans who act like he's a God, call you hater if you don't agree with them, and give you red K like you give a shit. :haha:
well here's some green for all those haters that gave your red K. Yeah not fan of the people that just hate on guys, especially when they have no reasoning for doing so.
I don't like Floyd and I love boxing, I know the sport and I respect the skill aspect just as much as the warrior aspect. However, I feel Floyd doesn't do enough for the sport, for how much he runs his mouth I personally feel that he should have cleaned out the WW division a couple years ago if he was really that great. I mean that would have been amazing for boxing, seeing him fight guys like Cotto, Margarito (before he cheated), Williams. I know everyone is selfish a bit but I feel like he is too selfish he deprived the fans of what could have been great fights. And every boxer fights guys like Marquez that are smaller but why can't he get into the ring and try to put on a great show against the lesser opponents and really knock them out. And I do consider Marquez a lesser opponent when he is fighting at WW. I never really liked Floyd's style however I did really enjoy watching the skill, it wasn't until a couple years ago that I really started to dislike him. Boxing's ATG's were either fighting lesser opponent and knocking them out or world class opponents in very tough fights. I wouldn't even mind his style that much against guys like Cotto and Margs but when he uses that exact same style against a guy he should be able to KO with ease, I feel very ripped off. He runs his mouth like Ali used to, only one difference, Ali fought some of the greatest heavyweights of all time and on top of that he went to war with them and gave us some of the greatest fights of all time.
Thats why I don't like Floyd and boxing is by far my favorite sport and I watch it just as much or more than any other hardcore fan out there.
