I can only speak from personal experience being around these fighters in camp.
And of course a lot of heavyweights are not very athletic but one all time great in Lennox Lewis was so lacking in athletic ability it was shocking.
He couldn’t run fast, or jump and he was not very coordinated. I remember him and his one of his friends from Canada trying to dance to some reggae music and I thought he was joking the way he was flailing away but nope he was serious, but man could he fight.
And on the flip side one of the most athletic fighter I have ever seen at heavyweight was Ike Ibeabuchi, he could of been a starting middle linebacker in the NFL, he was a freak athlete.
JEEP Horn’s team is burning with anger after being forced to train in a dilapidated sauna-like Las Vegas gymnasium for his world title defence against American Terence Crawford next week.
``The facilities and conditions here are very oppressive,’’ Rushton said.
``We were expected to work out in 40 degree heat and I believe the temperature is going above 40 next week ahead of the fight.
``The Top Rank gym has a tin roof so the heat is stifling. The people who run it told us the air conditioning didn’t work. Then we tried to get the big metal roller doors lifted but they were locked tight and no one had the key. The punching bags were in poor shape and the speed ball was totally deflated. We eventually got one of the roller doors up yesterday but we don’t want to continue training there.
Well I used to workout in The Top Rank gym for 8 years, all year long and I loved it.
So did Mayweather and every world class fighter that trained in Vegas before all of the newer gyms opened.
Back in the day there was only Nevada Partners (run by rich steel), Barry’s Boxing (amateur gym), Johnny tacos, and the pal gym Tyson always worked out at.
You had to be somebody or know someone to get in to Top Rank because it is a private gym.
It is a quality boxing gym and yeah there’s no AC but it’s a boxing gym not a health club
It should still be in working condition; if they couldn't have it ready, they should have told him, so that they could find another place. It's just not very responsible, and I understand why they were annoyed.
The Top Rank gym is a quality boxing gym, owned by one of the most powerful promoters in the world.
Countless champions and contenders have worked out there, everything in it is was in excellent working condition and was replaced often, hell even the canvases in the two rings were always replaced after a promotion were there was a custom canvas used.
The gym manager was a old guy from Hawaii named Mitch and Bob Arum gave Richard Sandaval a job for life after he was damaged in his last fight many years ago, and he makes sure everything is in proper working order, and he never did the work himself, they always had professionals come in and upkeep the gym.
It’s a million dollar operation so if anyone thinks Horn is in some bad gym to try to rattle him is silly.
Yeah there’s no AC or heat (Vegas is cold in the winter) which should not matter to a fighter training to fight.
He is not as out of Shape as Solis but he didn't go tub of lard yet because he is a bit more commited. That being said i feel their pain when i came from Cuba as a kid i gained 40 pounds in 3 months those big macs were amazeballs to me. First time i went into a mcdonalds I was like " You mean i can haz burgers everyday with real cow meat???!?!??!!?!?!?! NO SOY BULLSHIT?!?!?!?! Oh lawdy lawd i loves the US of A O.O!"
:lol1:
Jajaja I can relate to that, when I first touched down on American soil I was 6'3 178 pounds and in about 6 months I was 222
James Toney got 500,000k base pay for his fight against Couture. Obviously Berto's not Toney, but if they marketed Berto as a "MMA's for sissies" type of guy, I bet he'd make some bank.
There are many reasons that James made so much money for his UFC fight, one of the reasons that i know is James and Dana have been good friend for many years, and believe it or not Dana was James's fan boy back in the day. James was the perfect set up for the Boxing vs MMA debate, to proven legends of their respective sports fighting and the hype that James brings with his words it was the perfect storm. Berto will have none of that on his side
It is true, i was in Top Rank the day after it happened and there were blood stains all over the floor and i asked Richie Sandoval (who Bob Arum gave a job for life working at the Top Rank gym) what happened and he told me 4 or 5 guys with guns came into the gym while Floyd was doing a late night work out and pistol whipped Ellerbe and that loud mouth Tomas who was originally part of Hasim Rahmans camp. and no Prince did not knock out Floyd he was not even there and the guys with the guns did not touch anyone else. and for a year after that they always kept the doors to the gym locked, you had to ring the door bell to be let in
Yeah I noticed that too, Roger gets real quiet when Floyd sr. is around, and you never see them talking much or at all really when they are both in the gym, Floyd Sr. will talk and Roger will shy away and stay silent.
Exactly! And after all of the years i have known Rodger, Floyd sr is the ONLY man that will get that response from him
why being so violent?
why not talk through the differences?
americans love violence, look at how many die by guns every year..sick nation..glorify how a paranoid trainer start to fight students of the game shows how sick you are..
..the Mayweather family are really a bunch of lunatics
The gym he is talking about is in Vegas and was probably a gym named Nevada Partners that is closed now but when it was open was the 1 gym in Vegas and it was just like the wild west with all of the young gun fighters and old school ex fighters turned trainers and there was always alot of tension and **** talking going on at all times but when you talk **** in a place like that you better be prepared to back it up.
That was the environment, it is a fighting gym and nothing less should be expected, because if you are a man you will back up your words
Share the story, this video got me curious about more!!!
There is really no story to tell except a long time ago when Floyd jr first dropped Floyd sr as a trainer i was working out at Top Rank gym and Rodger was there every day also and whenever Floyd sr came in Rodger would always get really quite and go to the other side of the gym, the first time i saw it i was shocked to how submissive Rodger would get because it is the total opposite of what he is. They have been brothers a long time and they obviously both know who wins that fight
I think it just has to do with respecting your big bro more than anything?
You can see this during the HBO 24/7 when Floyd sr and jr were fighting, Roger was just silent he didn't get involved and was the only one actually telling Floyd jr to stop yelling at his dad during the end of the quarrel.
That is what i thought too at first and as god is my witness it shocked me so much i stopped hitting the heavy bag to see what was really going on, so i whet to the other side of the gym where Rodger was and made a few jokes with no response at all from Rodger he was always looking to see where Floyd sr was, and the feeling that was coming from Rodger was PURE submission, like when someones father is mad and the son dose not want to do anything to draw attention on himself.
I thought Dana White was an aerobics instructor ? Why would he be working with those guys ?
Dana was not working with any fighters but he was always in Nevada Partners, Nevada Partners was a great place to be then because everybody in the fight game, connected to the fight game or wanted to be in the fight game was there. Old fighters and managers form the 50s, 60s to want to be and real gangsters, everybody was there. They even had rows of chairs around the sparring rings. And to top it off the gym was ran by the infamous referee Richard "Gray Area" Steel. There were some great wars fought in that gym
ur the same guy that threw a kid out of ur gym for not liking a certain
fighter,ur the azzhole puto:bottle:
i dont want to hijack this thread but it was not the fighter it was the additude he had and you calling me a puto just shows your age. cuidate
so i've take it you've met him before?? idk, to me he seems like a focused guy, would have never guessed he'd do something like this. especially over a girl that's not his anymore.
yes i have been around him a lot and while he is very focused he is not very pleasent to be around, i have been around champions and legends in this sport and while every fighter has a swagger about themsleves none of them come off as unpleasent as Canelo does. and that Chavez kid is a very nice guy
I know a little about Sulaiman he is really a good guy when you know him and he really wants another boxing hero for mexico before he dies, but the man is out of touch. being as old as he is he remembers the way boxing used to be without the internet when the only way you found out things was thru a monthly magazine. but now if a fighter farts its all over the net, so damage control is impossible now and makes him look foolish, and that Canelo kid is not very nice to be around he is not very humble

Good Lord Sanchez nice pics! i know "La Barbie" she sometimes trains at gimnasio Nuevo Jordan here in Mexico City.
I have to say that I dont have a ton of interest in female boxing but I did train a female to a world title named Liz Mueller and I have to say that she was DEFINITELY one of the hardest working and dedicated boxers I have EVER worked with...she always fought hard, trained hard and was in it to win it at all time...a pleasure to train...
you trained her to a title that is pretty cool, and thats what i am thinking with this woman because she has good skills and she is young and listens very well, but every time we train there is alot of sexual tension between us which leads to good workouts but i think i will let her go so she can train with someone else because she is trying to feed her family in this fight game and i dont know if all of that extra tension is good for her. what are your thoughts on that Iceman?
Haven't watched womens' boxing since lucia Rijker stopped. She was the only one I was interested to see. Fought like a man. A punvk like a horse. occasionally see emale fight if it's n a promotion, otherwise not really interested. I don't now wht it didn't fade away, such tremendous mismatches, with "champions" having 5-6 fights total, and "title fights" involving someone with a record of, say, 3-7......
Funny story, i met Lucia Rijker at Pure night club in Vegas after a UFC fight, i tried to buy her a drink and talk to her but she just looked at me like i farted or something
well...I'd say its a good move because the sexual tension thing between u is a problem...seriously...
Yea thats what i think too.. thanks for the input Iceman
no i dont watch any womans sport. i do respect ann wolf though she could probably 1 punch K.O most guys off the street
absolutely i also respect the woman boxers but i just dont watch it
i dont like watching women fight
i like watching them though but just not fighting :nono:
if u know what i mean
absolutely! i guess i am what you call a pig because the only reason i am training this woman is because she is not hot but she is not bad,the kind of girl you look at and say "oh yea, i'd hit that" for all of you similar pigs out there you know what i mean
Yes i love any type of boxing
i understand and i wish i was that way but mabey now i am jaded from the business aspect of the sport, and its something about watching a woman bleed from the face that kind of turns me off on the womans fight game
He is still fighting because he can not read or write... jobs here in Mexico are not easy to find... and after getting robed by his management for years he has no money and a family to support... the sad truth of this sport is promoters and managers get rich while the fighters get used up... and he did quit at least one time against Jose Luis Lopez... he was a hell of a tough guy in his prime... i wish him the best
When has a Bika fight ever been exciting?.
I did not say "exciting" i said good, i like watching hard nosed professional fighters and Bika is without question the above said.
And now i have seen how good his opposition is and i can do nothing but look forward to watching this fight.
