Katsidis admitted being confused after a CAT scan showed some scarring on his brain, insufficient to ruin his long-term health but a very clear warning that further punishment could be dire.
Boxing is my life, it's everything to me," he said. .
"It's just a very emotional time, but I love my family (wife Kumi and daughter Kalia Rose, 3) so I will pursue a media career to still be involved in boxing.
"Being man enough to withdraw from this fight was the bigger thing to do.
"I took on the world's best and entertained. I wanted to be the Aussie who got out there. Boxing is one man's will against another man's will, and we fight because we have something to prove.
"I wanted to prove an Australian's will can be the best and I'm very proud I proved that."
Took hellacious beatings in his last few fights. Whoever advised him to move up to 140 was nuts.
God damn shame he never won a world title. He's a champion in my eyes, that's for sure.
Great to hear, he was a true warrior and one of the most exciting fighters to watch. Brain injury is serious and I think all pro boxers should get routine MRI's. I know that Juan Diaz does it and said if he sees anything that is a question mark he will quit.
Some of the other boxers should do the same and get out the game before its too late. I'm glad he's ok and nothing worse czme out of this and wish him the best
With the wars and punishment he's shipped it's not surprising. I'm a huge fan of Katsidis, his heart and all-out-war style was hugely entertaining.
Glad he smart enough to listen to the Drs. Good move.
Good to hear. A tragedy was prevented here, because no matter who katsidis fought he was going to take damage because of his style. I'm glad they found this stuff on him just in time. Hopefully he can find something that will interest him because dude just loves to scrap and it must eating him inside to not be able to fight again. All the best to the guy.
Glad to hear things are not as bad as first rumored. I'm fond of the guy as a fighter but even if I wasn't it is a scary thing to think about.
Wish him all of the best.

Thanks for the update. I posted one a few weeks ago where he was saying it wasn't a medical problem forcing him to retire, but that he needed to talk with his family and re-evaluate things. It's always great to see our heros go out on their own terms. Just wondering where did you see this? I'm a fan on facebook and I didn't see this.
