If Khan or anybody else at 147 believed he was on a hype they would be lining up to beat him. Sammy Vasquez didn't have problems getting fights because they thought he was beatable. With Spence its get your stripes up.
That's true but if you're always boring, people forget how good u are after a while as well.
It's better to be boring and win than exciting and lose. Those who complain about somebody being boring is usually a guy who lost to a boring fighter.
I wonder why exciting fighters usually lose to these boring fighters 90% of the time. It's because lack of skill. If you lose people tend to forget how exciting you was after a while.
Do you think if Berto had defeated Ghost and Broner had defeated Maidana, they would've gotten the Floyd fight instead?
If Berto had beaten Ortiz that was the plan. The Garcia/Matthyse winner was groomed to be Floyd's next opponent especially if Lucas won. If Broner was still undefeated he would be mentioned now for a fight not back then.
Floyd May and Sept dates are as close to a set schedule as you have in boxing. Unlike other sports when you know when and what date they are playing ahead of time.
I don't think it's a myth. Mexicans buy PPV because they want to see their guy beat Mayweather. But if he's not fighting a Mexican, they'll watch Canelo-Cotto. Mayweather might make up for it with UK PPV sales.
It's a myth because cable companies don't ask for ethnicity to buy cable; so it's no way to prove who buys them. It's something boxing promoters say to sound good. Mexicans didn't jump out there seat to buy any of Marquez PPV's that didn't involve Manny or Floyd or they did line up to buy Canelo's last two PPV's.
They chose Guererro because there were no options and be was the highest ranked Welter.
And being Mexican didn't hurt.
Made perfect sense at the time then the big one with Canelo in September.
Exactly Canelo was the big fight; but they needed it to build a little bit more which is why he was going to fight the Trout/Cotto winner instead of going straight to Floyd in May. Floyd needed to shake off the a years layoff. Guerrero just gave a performance worth him being on a hot streak.
Mayweather fighting on Mexican holidays against Mexicans is just a coincidence :lol1:
Mayweather admits it himself - put black fighters against Hispanic fighters and you draw the best numbers. Yet his fans try to deny it?
It's like how he literally and admittedly markets himself as a villain and his fans still ask "why they all hatin doe?" :lol1:
It's more about trolling more than anything; who made a big deal about those dates before Floyd started doing? Oscar and Chavez Jr fought n those some of time. Like others they are the two best dates US sports calendar wise. The reality of American demographics is where ever there's a high population of Mexicans its a high population of African Americans in that same exact area. So it's a myth of who is actually buying PPV's.
I wish people would stop with the ignorant thinking that Canelo/Cotto outsells Floyd vs anybody. Floyd star power dwarfs both of them. Only Lebron James might be the only athlete right in the U.S. thats bigger than Floyd. Oscar vs Hopkins in 2004 was the last PPV without Floyd or Manny to break 1 mil PPV let that sink in. There will be no First Take debates or Sportcenter on location for there fight. But it will be for Floyd. HBO knows this which why they conceded the date. Floyd's flops are still higher that both Cotto and Canelos PPVs combined.
What are the chances of Canelo vs Cotto happening on the same date?
Is there enough time to make this fight happen?
Brook vs Floyd wudnt stand a chance against Canelo vs Cotto, Brook is unknown to the masses
Nobody is going head to head with Floyd. Floyd is the 2nd or 1st biggest athlete in America. Him vs whoever outsells Cotto vs Canelo.
Gotta strike the iron while it's hot. This is the best time to try and take over the dates, Canelo is on a roll. Sep 12 is one of the biggest dates. And Mayweather does not have a credible opponent. Which PPV you buying Mayweather vs fringe contender, or Canelo vs (hopefully) Cotto? I know what I'm getting.
And where Canelo is from, maximizing profits is already done. Dude is from farms with multi millions of dollars, and will make millions more despite what date Mayweather fights on. Dude is financially set already, if he does the right things with his money. That's on him, and the day he fights won't change that.
Only way Canelo fights on Sept 12th is if Floyd dies or they do a rematch other than that he fights October or November.
The new MGM will be 25,000 seats , that still too small for Floyd vs Pac 2 should be at Levi's Stadium next to 77,000 people
You can't charge $2000 a seat in a stadium that big thats why it makes sense to fight in Vegas and no State tax.
I don't think so.
He needs a Mexican name to get the Mexican fans to pay. Otherwise only Mayweather fans will be buying.
Canelo v. Cotto will be a bigger draw. Mexicans and Puerto Ricans will pay for that ppv. Pacquiao fans aren't buying a Mayweather ppv, that's a given. I would like to see them go head to head just to see if I'm right and to see if fans got turned off by his latest performance.
They was supposed to be turned off after the DeLa Hoya fight and 8 years laters he's still the biggest draw by far. Floyd is mainstream Canelo/Cotto is a boxing fans fight. The same people who complain will be the same people buying hoping he loses.
It's really not a intriguing match-up. Khan punches fast but doesn't think fast which he has always got him in trouble. Floyd at an advanced age of 38 is going to kill him with his check left hook. I hope he gets the fight so he can be shut up.
Zab traded with Cotto for most of the fight and even made Cotto dance with an uppercut. Judah didnt trade with Lucas once, Matthysse laughed at his perfectly timed uppercut too. Judah boxed the whole fight vs Matthysse and the general concensus is that Lucas won. That fight could have gone either way but in no planet did Devon best Lucas. He got knocked down in a 10 round fight meaning he needed 6 rounds to draw let alone win.
The Zab could have went either way; Lucas took his foot off the gas and let Alexander steal those late rounds to make the fight closer than it should have been.
Khan KOing Algerie would have made people think he could beat Floyd which would have brought in more interest and money. Now nobody thinks that but its literally no front runner for the fight so Khan still has a chance.
He doesn't stop Broner no matter the weight; win probably but he doesn't apply the kind of pressure Maidana or Porter put on Broner to make him stop throwing. He def doesn't stop Porter nor do I pick him to win.
Even tho it won't happen. This would be a easy neg between HBO and Showtime Floyd would get 90-10 to 85-15 split vs GGG. He doesn't have the power to demand anything like Manny did or in the Lewis/Tyson fight. All HBO would do is put there logo on the PPV.
Judah has said multiple times that Matthysse is the hardest puncher he's ever faced, his words were "not saying he is the best but the hardest puncher". That includes Cotto, Tsuyu and so on.
Both Cotto and Tsyzu stopped a better version of Zab.
