Too bad. Walters could end the Rigo hype pretty brutally. Rigo gets caught and dropped fairly often, and he couldn't handle the size and strength of a young lion like Walters.
Walters would definitely present a physical challenge. His size/power/length will present a puzzle that Rigo may not be able to solve. What would be interesting to see is what Walters would do if he cannot find an offensive rhythm. Rigo hasn't shown an inside game, but I think he would need one in order to beat Walters. It could be a hard fight to watch.

Sometimes he moves excessively or doesn't throw enough punches. However, he tends to be in front of his opponent and relies on his speed/footwork/southpaw stance to defend. Like any good counterpuncher, he makes his opponent tentative to throw and it can affect his own output because he's defensive-minded.
No, you can't. Mayweather has never been a "runner"
I'm a big Floyd fan, but taking the whole "running" sh*t for the sake of argument, Rigondeaux rarely uses the entire ring like Floyd. So I don't see how they would call him a "runner"
How does Rigo "run"? you could say Floyd runs, Lara definitely runs but Rigo stands there like a cobra waiting to capitalize on a mistake you rarely see him "run" GTFO with that lame ass excuse.

So sick of that excuse.
If you don't want your opponent to run, then stop them. What Walters is really saying here is that he doesn't think he could handle Rigo boxing.
I agree. That seems to be the trendy excuse when fighters can't hit their opponents. "He just ran."

I hate when fighters say "I don't like runners" then cut the ring off man, it's like criticizing a power puncher for punching hard. "If he would've hit less hard, I would've beat him..."
No sh*t a fighter will use their best attributes to win, if you can't catch him then too bad for you.
I don't like when fighters make excuses like this. I also don't like when boxing fans don't like come forward fighters and they call them untalented bums. One of the things that makes boxing so interesting is that every fighters has a different style. Not all boxers move and box the same, not all brawlers fight the same, every fighter is different and that's what makes boxing so entertaining. Imagine if every single boxer had the same style.
Rigo doesn't even move that much, he only does it when it's necessary. Rigo actually fights better when he has a fighter coming forward and pressuring him. But this fight won't happen anyway, Rigo has no intentions of moving up.
It is pretty ridiculous since Rigo rarely runs. He tends to want the same distance at all times, whether he has to retreat or press. He maintains a certain distance at all times.
I agree in general. But there are times when he moves too much imo. But not in an 'all fighters should be brawlers' kind of way, more because he makes rounds closer than they need to be. The later rounds vs Cordoba and from round 7 till the kd against Donaire I thought his movement made the rounds more competitive than they should have been

to be very fair to rigo, what he does is NOT run at all. you want running cowards you watch floyd mayweather. rigo stands his ground and counters and never runs.
walters and rigo are both REAL fighters with two different styles. but both never back down and give it their all! unlike cowards like floyd.
wow floyd wasn't even giving his all when he beat manny that's impressive maybe he is TBE.
lol Arum gets the blame for everything.
I don't really see Walters as a Thurman type, maybe there are fights I have missed but I haven't seen him box off the backfoot for any length of time.
Strong puncher with good technical skills, who tends to pressure more often than not. I can see him catching Lomachenko down the stretch.
That Arum part was a joke or it tried to be a joke. He is an old, sneaky bastard but I don't think he's the one to blame for this.
I think Walter boxed on the back foot against Donaire couple of times and he did with Darchinyan sometimes too. Sure, he is an offensive minded fighter but so is Thurman. I think they have a lot common in style this is why I like both of them.
I mean if I want to find a similar styled puncher/boxer-puncher like Walters I would say a rangy, explosive guy first who can fight on the back foot, like Thurmn not an all out war brawler like Maidana or Provodnikov and not an intelligent stalker like Golovkin or Kovlev.
