Pito Cardona? I know scully trains him now isnt that the guy who spadafora boxed the crap out of for the ibf title back in the day, ive seen it on classic.
Good point on Spadafora, I believe when he held the IBF Lightweight title he was the only white, American-born champion in any weight class in boxing at the time.
But this thread is overall ridicilous with people debating that someone who is born and raised in America like Micky Ward, La Motta, Marciano, etc. is not white. If you are born in america your are american, because your parents/grandparents, whoever, came to america from ireland, italy, etc. does not affect that the fact you are an american, a white guy. You have Irish descent. All four of my grandparents are from Ireland, so I'm Irish-American, but first and foremost I am a white guy from America, regardless of ancestors end of story.
It wouldnt be at 135 if it actually happened, casamayor recently already stated that he would fight at 130 if he could get a mega fight with barerra so I assume joel would move down. This would be interesting cause who knows how much cassa has in the tank, but he is real hard to hit and his punches are so sharp and accurate, even corrales said on fnf that casamayor is such a sharp puncher they sting u worse then heavy thudding punches. its all who can control the tempo of the fight. but this fight won't go down, cassa has diaz and/or freitas.
That Augustus-Burton fight was one of the most ridicilous decisions and an example of the shit he has had to deal with, Teddy atlas was classic at that fight goin nuts after the decision then ripping the michigan offical for calling it a majority decision when it was a split decision
Of course many people are upset that he is retiring cause we are all fans and love exciting fights but for once can we please be proud and happy cause a high caliber fighter like popo had the smarts to walk away from the fight game. Nearly all great fighters stay in the game way too long and leave with a tainted legacy or worse mental and physical damage that can last the rest of their lives. Be proud that he even accomplished what he did and was smart enough to realize how blessed he was and now move on and be healthy in mind and body for his family. Just becoming a professional fighter from where he came from should be justly respected, let alone a world champion as he was, this man has zero to prove and we should be proud that we do not have to see another one of our heroes humiliated and hurt in front of our and their families eyes. Enjoy the retirement cause you deserve it.
I read that they wanted to mention and reference Creed in this movie but carl weathers wanted way too much money just for some small snippets, so maybe they mentioned ali, foreman to act like creed didnt even exist because they couldn't use him. its not like people wouldn't still see the movie, but you are right they kinda goofed and got caught in a lie or contradicted the whole plot of the entire series. but movies are movies can't take em too serious.
I suppose people felt that he proved otherwise by beating a shot Vargas, Mayorga, and TKO'ing Margarito, who at the time was still somewhat feared, after losing those fights. Winky was still the man at that point, and they chalked it up to styles. But you're right, he did look like crap against Mayorga, and couple that w/ Mayweather & Mora fights, he can't pull the trigger anymore. Mora losing to Vera doesn't help Mosley's case, either.
Every kid who thinks they can be a fighter should read this cause its very true. I know thats how my family makes me look at it; I have an undefeated record as an amateur yet my father tells me everyday no matter how good I am I have a better chance winning the lottery then making a living fighting cause out of all the guys who box there only a select few who make enough money that they can retire off of and not have to worry about work after so go to school and study hard.
I like this fight, if its in NY I will definiltey shell out the money to go.
I think Zab will be 100 percent prepared and motivated for this fight, if he loses basically all big paydays/title shots are out the window and I dont think hes ready to call it quits just yet.
So is the Cardona fight on FNF done now I forget that date
