Trainer Buddy McGirt, Adamek's chief second, told ESPN.com that he is no longer training action star Arturo Gatti. McGirt said the two had a "personal incident" a month before Gatti's knockout loss to Carlos Baldomir in a welterweight championship fight last July, which led to McGirt walking away as Gatti's trainer after a 10-fight run.
"I will no longer be training him," McGirt said. "It's a personal situation. I just wish him the best. I love him."
McGirt is credited with helping revive Gatti's career after taking over training duties following his knockout loss to Oscar De La Hoya in 2001. McGirt came on board for the next fight against Terronn Millett in January 2002. McGirt worked all three of the epic Micky Ward fights and guided Gatti to a junior welterweight title.
• Speaking of Gatti, promoter Gary Shaw said he recently called Pat Lynch, Gatti's manager, to inquire about his interest in fighting former lightweight champion Diego Corrales. Gatti has a July 14 HBO date and Corrales is planning to move up in weight. Shaw said Lynch would get back to him in a few days. A Gatti-Corrales fight would pit two of this era's most exciting fighters, and would surely be a crowd-pleaser.

McGuirt has a long lossing streak for his super star from Adamek to Gatti to Tarver to Julio
i think it his end of his days this guy but he sometimes gives tips to his fighter and they dont do it that sometimes some human compliactiy in it.
like in the Adamk fight where he told Ademk to keep punching and in Tarver first fight with Jones and even third told him to keep punch but Tarver went for getting a big shot which he is why he lost the first fight
id look forward to any apponent gatti decided to fight, as for this, it would be great for gatti to end his career with this being a potential gatti-ward 4 or something, thatd be an awesome note to go out on. good luck to gatti anyway he goes.
Mgirt is a good trainer...but shit happens.
Gatti can hurt Corrales as much as Corrales left hook could decapitate Arturo. This would be a bloodbath from 2 of boxing's most exiting action fighters.
Buddy is way over-rated anyway... If Gatti can land a solid trainer, he will be better off.. As for Corrales-Gatti, as much a I respect both fighters, as they both have a ton of guts, they are guys that are done so that fight would just be a horrible tragedy waiting to happen..
I think this is still a close fight. Both have no regard for defense. Im sure Gatti has enough pop to hurt Corrales.
About the McGirt thing. I thought McGirt did a horrible job with the Mayweather fight, coming in with a plan to box. Other than that he did a good job.
This fight will surely be a war, but i dont like this fight as a GATTI fan.
I love corrales, he is one of my favorite fighters, but i also like Gatti. And gatti no longer has what it takes.
IF corrales has the same power at welterweight that he did at lightweight, forget about Gatti winning. I wanna know if he can survive the fight.
I have never seen Corrales really buff for a fight because of the weight... well he would be jacked at 147.
3 or 4 years ago, this would be FOTY for sure. But Gatti wont be able to take what corrales dishes out. He'll get rocked a lot of times, like he usually does, but he wont be able to survive later on in the fight.
2 fighters with the biggest hearts, yet I don't think heart is enough to save Gatti at this point in his career. Corrales will decapitate him. That's provided he keeps his power moving up.
yes! finally Gatti has dumped McGirt. Its said to know they had a falling out before the Baldomir fight, as that could have impacted the fight in some aspects. Who will train Arturo now? I loved Hector Rocha, but i'm not sure if Arturo would bring him back if he is still mad over the De La Hoya stoppage.
