Boxing purists will buy the rematch in a heartbeat b/c they realize the beauty that was on display Saturday night. Constant adjustments, feints, inside fighting, etc. That was boxing at its highest level.
However, I could see the decision (controversial to some) affecting casual fans to even entertain buying another PPV that they feel is "rigged" in the American's favor.
What I am noticing is that more and more people are changing their scores on certain rounds after re-watching the fight which shows you just how much of a boxing chess match this was. People who give Kovalev an easy 3+ point victory should not be discounted bc he did land the monster shots. People who give ward a 4+ point victory are delusional. Those who give Ward and/or Kovalev the CLOSE victory I cant disagree with.
Come on, bro, you can't be serious. Ward clearly won, although it certainly was close. Ward is the P4P number 1.
To say he CLEARLY won is not accurate at all IMO and I'm the biggest S.O.G. fan. I was at the fight and it could've gone either way.
There was a lot of back and forth. The bulk of the eye-catching work was from Kovalev. The clever, quick stuff was largely Ward.
Agreed. Perfect analysis
From this angle round 12 was a CLEAR Ward round.
Edit: Did HBO add boos to their coverage when the decision was announced, there isn't hardly any on this footage?
LOL I watched the HBO replay and was wondering the same thing. However, once I stopped recording and Kellerman started interviewing Ward there were plenty of boos.
my hairs stood up for kovalevs entrance music.
damn that tune is sick
I must admit, for not knowing any of the words I thought his entrance music was sick as well.
Wow watching this made it EVEN MORE CLEAR to me that Ward won 7-5.
Further proof that this fight was such a classic. Other posters have said the same thing you did after watching the replay but had Kovalev winning.
The power is diffused when it connects on the glove. Same when a fighter like he or Floyd catch a shot on the shoulder and the fist grazes off the head. The glove toughing the head after is of no consequence because the power behind it is gone.
The other guy wanted to call it part of a "good sequence". That is not a good punch, it's a blocked punch.
This is really basic stuff, guys.
Bottom line, whether you think Kovalev landed 2 or 3 shots he won that exchange. Basic enough? We could also post exchanges where Ward CLEARLY hits & gets the better of Sergey. All I'm saying is that those clips don't tell the entire story of the fight so it's really not a big deal guys. Sergey didn't dominate the entire fight, neither did Andre.
:fing02::fing02:Great seats btw OP!
Cheers for the video. Love seeing fights like this.
No problem. Hopefully I will post a GGG vs Canelo live fight video sooner rather than later bro!
Only two shots landed.
Once again, I'm a Ward fan and I saw 2 solid shots landing & a third one that scored points. 3 total if you ask me. But let's not get all caught up in a couple of sequences & focus on the entire fight. What people aren't bringing up is that Kovalev (as the champion) was not the one getting stronger as the fight wore on. It was Ward. Ward finished much stronger IMO. I understand the fans who say Ward needed to do more to TAKE the belts from the Champ but let's also not act like Kovalev was the same fighter he was the first 4 rds. Ward made him fight his fight at his pace & made Sergey look like a tiring fighter. Respect to both fighters. Let's hope for a rematch ASAP
"As you can probably tell I was going for Ward but I can't argue with you. One could argue (convincingly) that Kovalev landed the meaningful/ more powerful shots. This was such a great fight that could've gone either way IMO. Glad you enjoyed the video"-Pr video poster
LOL I wish more ward fans were like him. Hey ward fans, Kovalev won this fight. He landed more power shots and more shots in genral and i thnk he took some of those "close" rounds
I posted that and I will also add that Ward fans that say he won by atleast 4 rounds don't know what the hell they're talking about.
8:34 "WARD IS SCARED"
LMAO this is exactly what I wanted to hear, crowd reactions.
That was my friend who obviously is a huge Kovalev fan. Check out 5:50 "QUIT CRYING! IT'S TOO EARLY TO CRY!" LMAO
True, and also, Wards jabs look far more vicious in a more live type video, than the hbo telecast.
To be honest both of their jabs were a thing of beauty. Two of the best in the business.
thanks bro...watched it last night...much better than broadcast view
a lot of punches missed that many thought landed...easier to see from this angle
I agree. There were a lot of cheers for punches that clearly hit nothing but air.
It will be a close fight that could end at any moment. Nothing different from the first fight, although I believe Ward will make the necessary adjustments to frustrate Kovalev even more.
