Your absolutely right he was never dominated but...with his style it is tuff too dominate him when he really isnt interested in fighting all that much.
He had an opportunity to right a wrong and make good on a defeat that he should have never been dealt and what did he do?
He did the same exact thing...
I wanted to see Nard go out and try to beat Jermain Taylor, thats what an all time great should have done or at least put forth the effort-Nard talks about going out on his shield...in his three losses he was never willing to go out on his shield-I will hold this against him a bit.
i fully agree. in the second fight B-Hop showed a lack of two very important qualities of a champion - adaptability and the willingness to pull out all the stops to win. saying after the fight he was still "fresh as a daisy" - which was not far from truth - was a slap in the face to anyone who paid for that PPV.
the second Tarver fight was also a piss-take from RJJ, but his recent losses came from being a shot fighter - B-Hop did not look shot to me.
has the guy STILL not got an opponent?
agree with what DD said about the low hands. hes good but his movement is nowhere near good enough to protect himself if he keeps his hands down like he has in the past.
The Gatti-Wards were obviously awesome but, as mentioned above, Benn-McClellan was just savage. No one could believe Benn could finish the first round after getting dumped through the ropes, let alone go so many rounds toe-to-toe...two massive punchers wailing on each other for 9 rounds (?). tragic ending with McClellan`s life nearly ended and Benn`s career irreperably damaged (just like Eubank after the Watson fight, Benn never again looked like he was willing to do whatever it took to win).
i think the first four rounds you could score either way, though VK might just get the nod. 5 and 6 were Lewis, and the momentum was definitely his when the fight ended, although to be fair they both looked fucked.
The decision to stop was definitely correct, particularly as Lewis would have continued to target the left eye and VK would not have had the defensive skills to stop him.
Personally I believe Lewis wouldve gone on to win, although i accept there is a case for believeing the reverse, but at the end of the day he won fair and square anyway.
Junior Witter`s promoter has also apparently made a $2.5m bid for Gatti. Him or Judah would make for a better fight, FMJ would just run rings around Gatti, 12 UD.
to be The Man you gotta beat The Man, and i hardly think Gatti or Mosley qualify as that. i think hes got a shout for best P4P as it is, but i agree a win over the winner of KT/Hatton would cement it.
agree with motiv, sturm would need a knockout, shortly followed by pigs flying out of his trunks.
i also doubt he`s ever faced anyone who`d rough him up as much as B-Hop, thats were a lot of Hopkins` experience would kick in.
of course if it was in Germany he`d win on a split even if he spent the last six rounds literally on his hands and knees.
i presume a hook is called a hook because the shape of the arm, with the elbow at 90 degrees, coming in horizontal to the body resembles a hook. i dont see why such a shot with the right, used particularly when in close, shouldnt be called a hook. my trainer has always taught the use of left and right hooks.
Although I 100% agree that if Calzaghe wants to enhance his reputation he needs to start fighting Stateside (although realistically while he`s signed to Warren this aint gonna happen), some of the knocks he`s getting here are well out of order. He hasnt accomplished nearly as much as he should have but you`ld have to be sticking your head in the sand to claim that guys like Johnson, Tarver and Lacy are a class above. Sactown youre entitled to your opinion and all, but your arguements are let down by your displays of wilful ignorance with claims like Eubank having "no ability" and Calzaghe being "nearly KOed" by Mitchell (as pointed out, Calzaghe popped straight back up and hammered the hell out of Mitchell). For all their good points, Lacy, Tarver and Johnson are all eminently beatable and to suggest that a marauding puncher like Calzaghe who, although he hasn`t fought as good a calibre of opponent as we`d hope for has still found ways to beat them all, wouldn`t "stand a chance" is ridiculous.
I have a feeling that a lot of those fans among the 22,000 attending are going to see Tszyu more than what Hatton thinks. Just a thought.
im really not sure about that chief. and if there are any tszyu fans in there you can guarantee theyll be quiet, or made to be quiet. the typical attendee at a hatton fight is not to be messed with, especially when theyre off their face after drinking all night for this one. the atmosphere will be electric and there will almost certainly be a host of warm-up and warm-down fights round the MEN that night.
...I think Lewis would have gotten whiped right after that fight and so does Lennox or he wouldn't have left 20 mil on the table. What people seem to forget is that Lennox is not even in that fight if not for the cut. If Vitali doesn't get cut he knocks Lennox out inside of 5 and gives a one sided beating. Vit dominated before the cut and was only really hit by Lewis after he couldn't see from blood pouring down his face. Even under those conditions it was a draw post cut. Not to mention the big uppercut Lewis landed was cheap and dirty as hell and it still didn't faze big Klit. Vit's confidence was sky high after that fight and an in shape Lewis would have chosen to rumble and gotten taken out quickly.
which uppercut are you referring to chief? i remember LL landing two monsters in the last round, both of which were perfectly legal, and both of which had VK clinging to him like a koala. Are you gonna claim VK`s cuts were stopping him seeing uppercuts coming?
I`ll ask you the same question I always think when people claim LL was getting whupped that night - if LL was getting whupped how come his face looked OK while VK had four massive cuts, in seperate areas, requiring 60 stitches?
Mayorga does deserve a special mention for willingly getting nailed by Forrest - who`s a heavy puncher at that weight - then doing the exact same thing with Trinidad.
McCullough also has an incredible chin and i cant remember him getting cuts!
LOL its pretty ironic that a guy can slag Joe Calzaghe for running his mouth while standing up for Judah. if saying that Roy Jones was scared of him is Calzaghe`s biggest crime...virtually every boxer from middle to heavy weight have claimed at some point that RJJ was scared to fight them!
Sven Ottke anyone? I dont hate the guy at all personally, but his running both in and out of the ring - not to mention the amount of dodgy hometown decisions he got - really discredited his claim to be any kind of champion.
yep, absoutely not, as good as Morales is hes lost out on two of his defining fights and hasnt come close to dominating his division. i would say Erik could get out-boxed by JMM and out-brawled by MAB and maybe Pacquiao too.
Well the problem in the SMW/LHW divisions for years is that the talent has been comparatively weak, geographically dispersed and dominated by the spectre of formerly untouchable Superman RJJ. Now RJJ is out of the picture, who is there with enough credibility/box office potential to lure Calzaghe out of the UK? Tarver`s been exposed, Johnson was widely considered a journeyman until very recently, Lacy`s untested. Interesting thought on Joppy, but you have to wonder whether the guy`s heart is in it and whether at his age he wants to get hit by the bigger-punching SMWs. Calzaghe`s at a bit of a dead-end right now, partly due to his refusal to travel but not wholly his fault. The other big problem is that so many people have already their minds up about him, so if he did beat Tarver/Johnson it`d be "well Tarver/Johnson`s old and on the slide" and if he did beat Lacy it`d be "guy was over-hyped anyway".
