I think that everyone saw Taylor slowing by the end 4 or 5 rounds of the fight but does anyone agree that a major reason for his exhaustion was maybe the cut on his head? Anyone that has ever boxed knows that you lose enough fluids when you are not cut and the cut on Taylors head was in a terrible place and bled pretty much from the time of the gash on. Thats a lot of blood to lose for a guy thats A) never been cut before and B) constantly having to be the agressor. Ive been cut before when i fought and it seriously drained not only my energy but my will to fight. I think, honestly, that Hopkins could not have come back the way he did if his head hadnt proved so damn abrasive (although he still clearly lost and anyone who scored the fight for him in my oppinion must be crazy). Anyway I dont know if there are other threads on this because i havent looked back more than like a day but does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I think that Mayweather will go into this fight frustrated and jealous from Gatti's undeniable popularity. This is an opportunity for Mayweather to gain tremendous popularity and the only way that he can do that is to give the crowd a fight that they want to see. Mayweather talks consistently about how his fights are always exciting and I think that perhaps in this fight he may do what Byrd has done recently and abandon a little bit of the boxing in order to slug a little bit and garner some popularity and ensure future pay per views. This is the factor that made me bet on Gatti more than anything else. I am taking a big risk with my bet but somehow my intuition tells me that Mayweather is suffering from the very same affliction that ailed Byrd in his last few fights. This fight is not about boxing skill, its about respect and Gatti wins a fight about that in my oppinion.

I just saw Valuev's fight with etienne and it was ridiculous. This huge plodding fighter did nothing that impressed me whatsoever, including taking what was it like 3 rounds to finish a man that a shot Mike Tyson demolished in a matter of seconds. A fast fighter like Byrd or Toney would just plain tear this guy apart and I think that even Vitali and Brewster have the speed to beat him to the punch. And thats saying a lot. I am truly hoping that Vauev and Toney fae off soon because I think that that would be a tremendous exhibition of toney's skill as a fighter on the inside and a testament to the fact that bigger is not always better.

I am seriously considering buying tickets to see this fight because I think that it will last the distance but I have never really seen Brewster fight...does this fight have the makings of a Golota Byrd type match?

Is it possible that neither Gatti nor Mayweather will use thier conventional fighting styles and instead we could have another Gatti-Ward? except that this time Gatti will play the role of the slower more powerful fighter and Mayweather the quicker boxer. In my oppinion its entirely possible because Floyd wants to prove that he belongs in this division and Gatti has never turned down a chance to trade shots.

The negotiations are over and the fight has been announced for April 30th

who else thought that The Contender in one night displayed more drama and excitement and character developement (as well as better fight scenes) than The Next Great Champ did all season?

I saw this brought up on another post comparing the fact that Gatti went 30 rounds with Ward whereas Kt would probablky knock him out in five, but I dont agree. Ward was a tough enough fighter that I think he would have lasted the distance even with KT...that being said, I still think KT hits harder than Gatti but I think to say KT would surely have knocked out Ward is a bit ridiculous because Ward just never got knocked out.

its time that we admitted that John Ruiz as much as we hate it is one of the best heavyweights out here right now. I recently read something on the is roy jones overrated thread that said Ruiz is a bum but it just isnt true. Ruiz has beat most of the contenders out there and he seems to always be able to find a way to win

Does anyone else think that perhaps the only reason that Ali beat Frazier in the second and third fights was because he was the smarter and more adaptable fighter? Furthermore, could it be that no matter when they fought the first time that Frazier would have beaten Ali simply because of his style?...Also remember that Ali knew exactly how Frazier would come at him in the second and third fights because for all of his merits, Frazier was a one dementional fighter.

Was anyone else as impressed as I was with Andre Burto's ability? Granted he beat up a tomato can but he displayed sharpness, speed and defense that I do not think i have ever seen from a guy with 2 fights under his belt before. Especially since it was his second fight in a week.

Aside from what i thought was an early stoppage, i thought the worst part about the night was the fox sports net announcers. They could take all the excitement out of a Gatti and Ward fight and then go on to suck the joy out of a fair with their tedious commentary.

Am i the only one that thought that the jirov fight was stopped before jirov had a chance to fight back? It seems to me that he stood up too fast and so he wobbled but that by the time he walked to the ref he was as close to perfectly balanced as is humanly possible.

With James Toney now making yet another comback one ahs to wonder, can he hold his own with the top heavyweights in his division? Basiucally to me, this comes down to the above question. Are speed and defence able to defeat reach and power?

the title pretty much says it all. I havent seen any of Danny Wiliams fights and so obviously ive never seen his losses...when he was beat how was it done and are there changes he can make in his style to be better able to avoid letting it happen in the future?

the fact of the matter is that in his last showing Mayorga never really demonstrated the power which he had become notorious for. Unless Tito Trinidad has eroded so tremendously that he can no longer beat an untrained undisciplined fighter like Mayorga, I think that this fight is a TKO for Trinidad.

As of the Roy Jones loss (which followed on the heels of the Lennox Lewis retirement, the Evander Holyfield degeneration, the Darius Michaejewski loss, the Mike Tyson losses, and the De La Hoya loss) it is official that the old men who so long held boxing in their strangle grip and tantalized fans with their fights are done. Unfortunately, it has not happened the way it has in the past. Great champions have not replaced great champions. Indeed, the time for champions to replace other champions was probably about 6 or 7 years ago. It has actually gotten to the point where great champions are losing to fighters who are relatively average in many respects. Even Vitali Klitchko is simply too old. He is nothing but a transition champion waiting for another Mike Tyson or Cassius Clay or even Evander Holyfield to rocket up the ranks and depose him from the throne.
