Am i the only one that thought that the jirov fight was stopped before jirov had a chance to fight back? It seems to me that he stood up too fast and so he wobbled but that by the time he walked to the ref he was as close to perfectly balanced as is humanly possible.
I think Jirov needed to take 8 or 9 seconds before finally trying to stand up. He tried too quickly, when his legs were still gone. Too much pride in the Tiger.
Jirov could barely standup straight and you could tell right when he got up he was still out. If the ref let the fight continue it would have only lasted one more punch.
If you have seen that many knockdowns then you know Moorer would have sent him right back down with the very next punch, Jirov was out on his feet. Good stoppage by the Ref, and Jirov will live to fight another day....
i sgree 100%. jirov didn't walk straight to him. thats exactly why they walk to them. to see if they can walk straight. jirov didn't hence the stoppage.
After that performance, I cannot say that Michael Moorer is back because the truth of the matter is he was being beaten until that point by a cruiserweight and beaten soundly at that.
Jirov didn't seem to complain about the stoppage. At first I thought it was early but he was clearly out of it. Looking at the replays his leg seemed to slightly give out again maybe that's what made the ref stop the fight.

and jirov will live to lose another day.
name the fights hes got a name for and hes lost em all
I watched the video tape on the foxsports website. The fight was stopped to early. No question. These are professionals, i've seen thousand worse knockdowns than this one, and the fights were allowed to continue. Bad decision.

might have a look for it on emule in a few days.

im glad rick decided to do it because we all were
going elsewhere to get it.
id love to rewatch jirov-toney and see mesi-jirov
for the first time. maybe even toney-holyfield
i wasnt questioning your judgement as ive not seen the fight.
i see its your sig now.. :D
thats cool. you should check out the fight it's a good one imo.
i was not making any comparisons. the pic is my sig so it is at the bottom of all my posts. but since you asked....yes the ref made a good decision. i love to see good fights but i would rather see a good ref think of the saftey of the men in hte ring. could jirov have gone on? prolly could have. for maybe 15 seconds more til moorer knocked him into tomorrow. o maybe he would have recovered, who knows. i like jirov and hope he comes back. i personally think he was the more skilled boxer in the ring. but i don't want to see any fighter get permanant damage.

you say the ref made a good decision and
have a pic of george bus underneath.
are you trying to make some comparison?

I think it was a wrong stoppage.
the ref should have stopped it when Vasili first got up and wobbled back
not after he asked him to come forward and Vasili did so
bendy knees or no, he should have been given the benefit because his head was clear not his knees
His head was on and he raised his hands to show he could fight on.
When the ref asked him to come forward and he did and then he waived it off
i said to myself WTF?
why ask a fighter to walk forward and stop it,
Not saying Moorer wouldn't have a good chance to finish it
but Jirov could have survived the round and hey who knows
he could have run the rest of the way and perhaps win
although that is not in his nature.
the ref made a good decision. he gave jirov the benefit of the doubt and let him take the full count. i don't know how long you have been watching boxing but the reason why they get them to walk forward is to see if they are still off balance. if they are, jirov was, then they should stop the fight. its for the saftey of the boxer. jirov still didn't have his legs. moorer smelled blood and would have put him right back on the canvas. the ref prevented jirov from the possibility of getting permanant damage. good call ref.
AMateur boxing is a perfect example of stopping fights to easy. If an opponent has a bleeding nose, the ref can stop the bout, wouldn't that be a bummer if you fighting for gold and up on pts, when the ref stops bout due to a blood nose.
Good point, the fight might of been stopped prematurely. Back in the old days, when the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson , JAke La Motta were around, you had to be almost knocked out cold or KO'd snoring. If that were the case, the fight would went longer, till one of the fighters were fully out on their feet.
i missed the fight
but since u think it was early
im guess you guys had some points riden on this fight
Damn I was so pi** because I went to bed at 5:00PM only to wake up two hours later to watch the live taping and FSN has no sound. So I went back to sleep and watched the 11:00PM replay. I think they'll show it again this morning at 6:00AM (Chicago time) and again at 8:00PM.
Anyway I too think it was stop too early. He was still wobbling, but I've seen worse before. If it wasn't stop, I say he has about 50% to make it through the remaining of the round. He was leading the score cards on all judges. But he made a big mistake by getting up too fast. But it can't be help, it happened many times before.
It would have been irresponsible for the ref to let the fight continue. He looked in Jirov's eyes before stopping it.
Jirov was doing the white boy version of the Judah shuffle.
