i want to end poverty. i also recognize that it cannot be done.
i want to end violence and rape. the only real way to do that is to lock everybody up before they commit crimes.
i'm not going to get into a game of semantics. you're comparing violence and poverty to boxing, which is absurd.
cannot be done? few centuries ago, men flying, can not be done, moon landing, can not be done...we know little of this world, don't be so quick to make absolute statements on what can and can't be.
I'm not making a comparison, I'm alluding to the fact that you were criticizing fundamental ideas, you mock at hopes of perfection and quickly resolute to disparaging attempts towards progression to an idealistic reality.
boxing has never been a compeition of the best fighting the best over and over again. go through the history. top fighters have never done that.
why do people dismiss the relative validity of modern pro boxing when making a comparison to the golden age of boxing, because the old days of pugilism were closer to this ideal of competition, of the best fighting the best, its frequency was certainly higher, and competition of the 21st century pro boxing can be better than it is.
for the most part, boxing has seen its champions and top earners matched carefully. the intent is to maximize their profitability over the long run. they don't just fight the best available. they never have. when they start, the sport will fail. you cannot sustain that. you'd have great fighters retiring in their 20's, and without all that much money. you'll have businessmen moving away from boxing and onto something that will actually make them money.
how the sport sustains itself depends on how much revenue it can generate, which is contingent upon its popularity among the population, and paper champs such as adonis does not contribute to its popularity growth, nor to the idea of competitive pro boxing.
i generally find that people who get "mad" with people who concern themselves with the administration of boxing aren't that bright or successful.
"i just want the best to fight the best."
i just want to fly. i want to jump out of my window and take off from here. i don't care to come back.
"I just want to end world hunger"
"I just want to end poverty, violence and rape"
and do we not strive to achieve these goals?...or do we say **** it, because its too difficult?
Best fighting the best, thats the fundamental spirit of boxing, and its the essence of the definition of being a champion. and we should strive to uphold these ideals.
These fans are fans of a particular boxer, but not of the sport, they care more for the welfare of their favored boxer rather than a scintillating and risky match up. These fans often carry an one sided emotional attachment to the success of specific boxers. They want what is best for their beloved fighter, not what is best for the sport nor for the spectators.
khan should hire floyd Sr... But in all seriousness, I like Khan, he is exciting to watch, who ever he decides as his next trainer, I just hope he doesn't change his exciting style by too much and become a timid and boring defensive minded fighter.
other than hardcore boxing fans, who would even know the name bob arum, much less what comes out of his mouth?..and lets be real, hardcore boxing fans already know prior to what uncle bob said in regards to rigo, so no damage done.
The abundance of homosexuality in this thread makes me want to beat the TS's ass.
Please shut the **** up and go cry somewhere else
look at this e thug talking about ass beating on the internet, you hard son
Manny's punching power comes from his speed, he launches his punch with high velocity and generates tremendous force.
However at age 33, I noticed that he isn't as fast as he was in his 20s, as numerous boxing trainers pointed out, speed is the first attribute to deteriorate with age, which could explain the loss of power.
Just don't resort to using steroids like your pops. Don't want to end up looking like a bobblehead with back acne
you must have taken too many punches to the head. JMM was the one with the back acne. It's ok grandpa, we know your memory sucks.
Put a good ref in the ring and let them fight. This could be a really great war if the ref just lets the fight play out and doesn't get involved.
Let Hatton fight his fight and let Pacquiao fight his fight.
if by letting hatton fight his fight do you mean wrestle and clinch rather then box and punch? I'm paying for a boxing match not a amateur wrestling competition.
tell him to watch a lot of hatton fights and get that speed up! He will have trouble but if he really wants it he can make it.
speed is something he does have. I don't think I can persuade him otherwise, this is something he has to find out for himself, and at 5'3 lean 135lb, he is going to have a lot of trouble...this is going to be interesting.
So they can now show up hydrated like Floyd does. Instead of losing so much weight they have the choice: Show up at a weight you know you will be healthier at or risk dying...
It's up to the fighter to show up healthy. If he is dehydrated....f*** him...his fault. If enough fighters are affected, instead of changing the rule back, keep it and it will force the fighter to be honest with his weight or it is on him.
I have a thread about it that you can look over some info I suggest and there is a link from the Doctor (red hair women) about why we should go back to same day weigh-ins...among other rules.
I agree with you, but the fact that there will always be people dumb enough to put themselves in that risk, which is most likely the cause for this pre-fight weigh in, to protect those who are desperate or dumb.
I thought he can go down to feather weight or even lighter, but i saw his body and he is very lean, so if he were to drop weight, he would be loosing a lot of muscle mass because he doesn't have that much fat to loose.
I've discussed this before and have come to the conclusion few care so I don't see any problem with it; we get fights like this
Arturo Gatti vs. Joey Gamache - February 26th 2000Uploaded by sostibo
And if Clottey can rehydrate from 147 to 170, who cares, right?
wow he got KTFO, thats permanent brain damage right there, plus i think his jaw is broken too.
he doesnt need to lose weight if hes lean and naturally like that. as long as he's in shape and has skills he should be able to handle it.. all different types have different advantages.. little tanks give me trouble because they have hard heads and good hooks, long arms are a disadvantage when you are up close
oh and nice manboobs. did you shave your armpits too?
im asian mang i dont need to shave
Maweather and Pac are the best
why else is Maywaether coming out of retirement ?
he finally sees an opponent worthy to face
forget hatton. he just plain disliked hatton
hatton isn't in their league
LOL more like Mayweather finally has a safe and a worthy cow cash of a opponent to face
and as for pac's resume, its very impressive considering he beat morales and barrera, jmm who were all in their prime and were on the top 10 p4p rankings.
The man was fighting a featherfisted, Paulie Malignaggi who was only fighting with 1 arm after the 3rd round and Hatton couldnt ever knock him down.
to be fair, cotto couldn't ko malignaggi either, that guy has a good chin.
