Trump's white nationalism is to blame.
I think so too. As a person of colour, but not living in the US, I hope and pray that all of you who are concerned about the growing racism will vote to remove this current administration for the betterment of the entire planet.
Barry Sanders <> PBF
Floyd Mayweather = Barry Sanders of Boxing
C'mon Barry Sanders never dissed anyone and he was honest to himself and to his fans. Once he Barry retired, he didn't look back, and did not tease anyone about coming back. There's no need to drag Mr. Sanders down to the same level as PBF.

No Apology Here
I didn't listen to the pundits and just remembered how crisp and accurate his punches were against Manny. Even in his last fight against Diaz, he was crisp and accurate. When you have good fundamentals even if your body is waning, you always have a chance.
If you watch the way Morales delivers his power punches, he applies full leverage, and the impact delivery is always near the top of its peak power torque. BTW, Humberto Soto has a similar style.
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=471066
Erik Morales
- always comes to fight
- his retirement was just due to a lost in desire
- great ability to setup and fire strong accurate combinations
- his fight against Maidana maybe a surprise for many
Chino's style is perferct for Pac
I think it would last until the middle rounds, because of Chino's ability to recover quickly. I do think he will get beat up pretty bad, just like Diaz.
Classy Katsidis
How has no one mentioned Michael Katsidis?!
This is a guy who eats, sleeps and lives boxing. The guy is always training hard and is litterally and i mean LITTERALLY willing to die in the ring. He fights the best and He leaves everything he has in the ring and you know every time he fights, he will always keep coming forward. He has never made an excuse when he has lost and has been gracious in defeat. Example being with Marquez, hanging out with him after the fight and exchanging their ring shoes. Also you got to love the way he calls out people. The way he called out Marquez was nothing but class.
True boxing warrior and class act.
If this is all true, then props to Katsidis. I should look up his fights, because I haven't seen any of them yet.
1) Matthew Hatton??????? If you're gonna put him, the list should expand cuz there's hundreds of dudes in boxing like that guy.
2) Ali was classy? That's pretty debatable, he said a lot of hatefull and classless stuff back in the day. Great great boxer, but not sure if classy is the right way to describe him.
I think many people gave respect to Mathew after providing a good showing against Alvarez. He didn't just lie down in that fight, he deflected many of the shots well, and punched back and connected. Its also his commentary after the fight that impressed me as well. He showed respect, but did not looked defeated.
With regards to Ali, he often poked fun at his opponents but never in a hateful way like Mayweather does. He also changed his religion from Christianity to Islam, and went to jail because he didn't want to fight in Vietnam. He was famously quoted for summing up the war in these words: "Here lies the yellow man, killed by a black man, fighting for the white man."
I think Ali goes beyond class because he fought not just in the ring, but also in defiance against the consevative 'white' establishment of the time. Maybe he has outboxed the establishment because we honor him today.
Thrilla in Manila
you should talk to joe frazier.
again, a thousand boxers do what matthew hatton does.
micky ward would be a great addition to your list.
If "The Fighter" is an accurate depiction of Mickey Ward, then he is definitely a classy fighter with alot of heart. Too bad they didn't include his fight with Gatti in movie. I am only listing fighters that I have seen myself.
The 'Thrilla in Manila' was my earliest recollection of starting to watch boxing. I remember Ali poking fun at 'Smokin Joe' and calling him the Gorilla in the jungle. Did he say anything worse?
Barrera punched Morales?
;10335174']Ali was a certified racist, don't take my word for it, ask Joe Frazier. He went from being a cocky, arrogant, racist, to getting humbled when he realized he was about to quit and get embarrassed.
Barrera punched Morales at a press conference, and wanted to "kill" Naz. Lol.
Matthew Hatton should be replaced with Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosley and Glen Johnson.
Martinez is also a classy guy.
Other than that I agree with the rest of your list.
The category of 'class' probably should be expanded but it is also a subjective term. But I'm sure nobody can argue that Ali was a very influential figure in and out of the ring, and the media microscope was constantly on him - so any wrong word is captured.
Agree on Martinez and Trinidad, but Barrera punching Morales at a press conference? That must have been something to see.
^^^
Wow!
You must have been watching boxing for at least 4 decades.
About DLH, yes I think the way he conducts himself now, and his business is controversial.
Yes, Lennox!
this thread is getting good.
Lennox was a classy fighter too.
QUOTE]
Forgot about Lennox. He was great champ, and not a bad commentator either. Too bad he left Canada for the UK - but that's probably because Canada doesn't have a good boxing program.
Poking fun? Calling him an Uncle Tom and White Collar at a time when racial tempers were at a high in the US (both lies). Dude slandered the shi t out of Joe and has never apologized to this day.
Didn't kow about that. Maybe it was Joe's low profile and humble demeanor that Ali was attacking at that time. Similar to the personality attacks that Mayweather and his fans say about Manny.
Easy Friend
Why don't you use that pea sized brain you've got for once? Isn't it obvious that a worldwide boxing star is going to have more fans than fighters that haven't fought in 40+ years. :dunce:
Nope the rest of the world are just not as crazy enough to go to the lengths Pac fans do. Go on Pacland some of them are installing every browser they can find to vote, dumb cunts can't work out that they only need to clear their cookies. :lol1:
Boy you really take your hate seriously. This seemed to be a light hearted thread until you started spewing hatred all over it.
About time
yes.
Im from Argentina, and the newspaper from Trelew said this in the oficial webpage.
" Osvaldo Rivero, the Promoter of Narvaez, said the fight between his attorney and the Philippines is a fact. The HBO television network accepted the duel and the date signed. The only thing left to make is the stage where options are being considered in Carson, California on the other hand, Las Vegas, Nevada, as the Top Rank could lead the fight against the city."
Note: This is not a championiship belt fight. Donaire will not defending any belt for this fight.
sorry for my english.
bye.
Your English is fine. Thanks for update. Now let's wait and see what this Donaire dude can do as a follow-up performance.
Racist!
Better to be Filipino than to be a racist clown.
Yep the guy is clown. He is the Justin Beiber of boxing. Fake and produced by great marketing. How he became a congressman is beyond me. Shows you how stupid people must be in the philippines must be!
Racist in Denial
I have no problem with your people. I just dont uderstand electing Pac. Thats all.
You're in denial. First you call Filipinos 'Stupid', now you say 'I have no problem with your people'? Well, Filipinos have a problem with your statement.
You should think before opening your mouth, or start typing, but maybe it's not your fault, perhaps it's just the way you were brought up.
May-Ortiz more interesting
I think the majority prefers to watch May-Ortiz because of the following factors:
- Ortiz is the young up and comer
- Ortiz upset Berto
- Ortiz has power, speed and fought with heart against Berto
- Although May is boring to watch, at least there is the drama that he may lose his no losses
- most people think that Pac will blow Marquez away this time
- May-Ortiz are both Americans
- Marquez-Pac are both non-Americans
Just too much hate and racism at BoxingScene
so much racism in this thread... just cause pac isn't black some people won't let pac be compared with jordan or woods.
I think the racism in America has blinded some of the brothers on BoxingScene. It doesn't matter what good news surrounds Pacman - the thread becomes filled with hate.
The bias is so obvious, when you look at their list of favourite fighters, almost all of one race.
I think I will look for other boxing sites where unbias boxing fans hang.
Maybe Pac can influence Nike
“Manny is going... to Nike headquarters to meet the big boss,
Phil Knight, and all the other top people with the company. Nike is
planning a huge Pacman product line...,” - Bob Arum
With Manny's quest of trying to eliminate poverty in the Philippines, maybe he can start by eliminating Nike's sweatshops. For decades, Nike has been accused of using sweatshops, and especially in Asia where people and even children work in sub-standard working conditions.
Filipino Speaking Tutorial
As a student and have taught in some capacity of Filipino Boxing it is from the art of Kali/Escrima/Arnis/Knife Fighting/Suntukan/Silat...not many people know that during the brief Filipino-American war in 1898, the native guerilla fighting was seen by the Americans.
It later was seen by one of the earlier Filipino champion of the world in the early 1900 by the name of Pancho Villa.
Filipino Martial Arts are now synonimous with Jeet Kune Do through the teachings of Sigung Bruce Lee and his top student Guro Dan Inosanto who is still teaching in California (And around the world) of the JKD, FMA, and the South EAst Asian arts in Penjak Silat, Thai's Muay Thai and Chinese Gung Fu....Guro Dan mastered about 36 styles of Indeginous Filipino Martial Arts fighting.
Most people associate the FMA in the form of sticks, knives and swords but a complete art of fighting (Boxing, Kicking (sikaran), Wresting (buno) and obviously weapons fighting). The Filipino Boxing was developed from what they call BLADE BOXING transcending to open hand/unarmed Fist art called PANANTUKAN/SUNTUKAN.
What is Filipino Boxing?
Google Filipino Boxing and/or Guro Dan Inosanto or Ted Lucaylucay or Lucky LucayLucay or Rene Latosa (associated with Ving Tsun) but from Serrada Escrima of Angel Cabales).
It is simulatenous Offense and Defense...body mechanics and leverage. Utilizing the angles of attacks, timing (Carrenza) or Cadence...and multiple angle attacks.
Before you can learn the art of Filipino fighting, you must first learn the art of Filipino speaking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BBtS1ir4tA
The Hyphenated Citizen
Donaire is a typical case of the hyphenated-American, and always will be. That's the reality if you live in Canada or the US, and are not white. No matter how integrated you are, there will always be the question, "but where are you really from?"
I am not saying this is negative or positive. It is what it is. There is a good and bad side, but maybe this is how the world should be. A world where people move freely and have a mult-national, multi-ethnic identity. Maybe this is the foundation of peace in the planet.
Demographics Matter - Especially in Boxing
Though I am a Filipino-American pretty much like him and almost identical in age coming here to the USA (though I am much older than him), I am proud of him obviously.
But I care less what his nationality was/is when it comes to boxing. Boxing knows no nationalities in my humble estimation. One's nationality and culture only adds flavor but for me, it is just boxing and nothing else.
He can be black, Guatemalan (as someone suggested..hehehe), African, Afro-American, Chinese...it wouldn't matter.
His skills have no national identity but merely called PUGILISM.
Let's stop these tug of war of nationalities and just cheer because you like him as a boxer.
Race, nationality, and religion have always been a factor in the pre-fight hype. Even for the purists, there must have been something that connected them to a fighter that eventually drew them into the sport.
Donaire must and should proudly and truthfully represent himself as not only Filipino, but 'Filipino-American'. This can only add to his growing fan base. For those who think that he's not American - think again. The US and Canada are nations of immigrants, and are successful because of them. Embracing his American heritage publicly will not only increase his marketability, but will re-affirm to Americans and to Filipinos that ever race and colour are not only tolerated in the US, but can also be proud citizens.
He's filipino by race but he is a US citizen. What is this bs about claiming him? Are we having a racial draft? If he wants to rep his Filipino heritage let him. How fluent he is in English has nothing to do with his Nationality.
True - fluency in a language has nothing to do with nationality, but his use of the language is an indication of his cultural makeup. He is obviously very comfortable using English along with all of the American cultural slang to go with it. But no need to get defensive - there is no denying he grew up with American culture, just as there is no denying his race. But the question is not about race, but about the nationality that he is being associated with.
Your Fast and Aggressive
Ive uploaded my Pro Debut onto YouTube. Have a look below:
http://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=share&v=D7aCEsT7ZiA
Thank you.
Not bad man. Your fast and aggressive, a real crowd pleaser.
Those were some rapid combos and had some pop too.
Your jabs were impressive as well.
I hope you do well man. I will be watching.
You are so ignorant
Whats so funny? Are you trying to say its impossible to hate Floyd if you're a jamaican woman? News flash: Not only white people hate Floyd. I know plenty of middle aged moms/dads who hate Floyd because of his arrogance and bad boy persona. And they never even saw a full fight of his
I feel so sorry for your unabashed ignorant bias. You are putting yourself to shame with comments of such sheer stupidity. Please take out Tupac from your sig. I have high regards for him, and because you are connecting yourself to him, you are putting him to shame.
Ridiculous!
I think this is nothing but falsehood and somebody's fantasy.
Pac can barely maintain weight at 147 and only gains a few pounds after re-hydration. How can he ever get up to 160?
I don't even think that he belongs at welterweight. At most, Pac should be at light welterweight. He has looked sluggish and except for Cotto, he hasn't stopped anybody at this weight class.
A fighter's optimal weight should be where he can re-hydrate comfortably and be 5-10% higher than the maximum weight limit. Currently, Pacquaio is re-hydrating at only 2% higher than the welterweight limit, which means that his average opponent is outweighing him by 10-12 pounds!
C'mon people, this dude is barely 5'5". How can his little frame get up to 160? He's only human. Sergio Martinez is 5'10". Assuming that Pac can even make the weight, Sergio will probably outweigh him by at least 20 pounds after re-hydration. The last time I checked, Pac wasn't wearing a cape and did not have the letter 'S' on his chest.
Disagree Disagree
Hey Crazy Native. Filipinos have been crazy about boxing long before Ali came on scene. Why do you think Ali and Frazier decided to have their 'Thrilla in Manila' there?
It's great to have a boxer like Pacquaio come into the scene - he's a once in generation fighter, and I'm sure Filipinos are quite proud to have him. But once he retires, Filipinos will still be watching and admiring great boxers no matter where they're from.
BTW, notice the spelling F-I-L-I-P-I-N-O when you are referring to the people.
I honestly can't wait until floyd and manny retire. Sure I want to see them fight, since 2009 or so, but I cannot stand their mentally stunted fans on this site. The question I want to know is: whose c0ck are floydiots gonna ride after he retires? There is no new foreseeable Philippino on the come up that would touch pac's level of fame so they most likely won't be heard from for a while. What say you boxingscene?
