JAPANESE boxer Kenichi Yamaguchi is a big fan of Filipino fighters and wants to learn boxing the Filipino way.
“My goal for now is to win and learn more about Philippine boxing,” Yamaguchi said through an interpreter during his visit to Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
“Boxers from the Philippines are different from the Japanese. They (Filipinos) punch harder,” Yamaguchi said.Although he is Japanese, he doesn’t look up to any of the boxers his country has produced and instead idolizes Manny Pacquiao and Nonito Donaire Jr.
“Boxing in Japan is not that good,” said the 30-year-old boxer who is 16-1. “Japanese boxers are not that strong. I went outside (of Japan) to look for better opponents.”
Even if he idolizes both Pacquiao and Donaire Jr., he doesn’t mimic either of their styles because he believes he has a style of his own.
“Manny Pacquiao is Manny Pacquiao and Donaire is Donaire. My technique is good and I have my own style and I won’t imitate (their styles) but learn from the good points of Pacquiao and Donaire,” he said.
More athletically gifted Mexican style

For every Paq there are 100,000 Might Mark's.
the proper use of that insult goes 'why dont you get off that inner tube that you call a boat'
Brain fart homie...but thanks for correcting me.
does going to school in Southern California from elementary to College count?
As I recall, most people there are drop outs so i really don't know much about ur education...but thanks for ur background.
and that makes your opinion on pinoys valid?
Very valid!!
Como esta, punk.....saying the truth hurts, pero, keep lovin' that Pacquiao u have...in order to bring up ur nation...he is the pride of the Philippines after all....or is that Arnel Pineda? LOLOL
There's a sense of hurt in you, why? This is just a sport...just so happen that it is a wave of Filipino fighters now in the limelight, you object to that?
it's not the grammar i'm talkin about, dipsh1t
i'm talkin about the way you address pinoys like you aren't one
and yea, no account in pacland? by some miraculous coincidence another person just happened to think 'rao007' would be a good username
get over it your self loathing queer
Makavelli, u need to get off that boat u call an innertube and get a real education in the U.S.---that's a good thing..and why don't u actually go to other sites and use rao007 as a username....i dated Pinay who screamed in tagalog while i was poking her, that's why i know some tagalog...like masakit.
'you' 'your'
why do you pretend you're not pinoy? lemme guess, you pretend to be pinoy in PACLAND but someone else on boxingscene?
Thank u grammar police...u sound like one of those pinoys who want to show their Enlgish skills....sorry i dont' have an account on pacland...filled with people with hopes of working in the United States illegaly, just like how Sigrab Jr isnt' actually Sigrab.
Do you come out in the blue moon just to make racist rants against Filipinos/Pacquiao?
Como esta, punk.....saying the truth hurts, pero, keep lovin' that Pacquiao u have...in order to bring up ur nation...he is the pride of the Philippines after all....or is that Arnel Pineda? LOLOL
Sigh...and these are all suppose to be aggressive southpaw fighters...yawn. LOLOLOLOLOL....yeah, style.

This dumb ass does not read well does he
From just memory more or less.. Pinoy's have been fighting and producing champions since the 1920's... NO STYLE????LOL
The 1920's had villa
The 1930s had small Montana
The 1940s hadi ceferino Garcia, eleuterio Zapanta
The 1950s had Salvador Marino
The 1960s had bernabe villacampo Pedro adigue, flash elorde, Roberto Cruz
The 1970s had Ebrito salavarria, ben villaflor rene barrientos,
The 1980s had Rolando Navarette, Frank cadeño, Roberto bernardez, dodie boy peñalosa, rolando bohol, tacy macalos
The 1990s had Eric Chavez, rolando Pascual, luisito Espinoza, jesus salud, manny melchor, Morris east, Ronnie magramo, William magahin, Eric jamili, Gerry peñalosa
2000 had Malcolm tuñacao, Donnie nietes, manny PAC, etc etc. We all know wassup.............
Count Pinoy hall of famers vs. PR hall of famers Stupid ass. There are good fighters(champs) and great fighters(hof) and the P.i. stacks up well considering they weren't flag waving fighters dependent on Filipino fans because there werent any in the old days so not many have been promoted for your eyes to see. How many people here only knew of Gerry Penalosa at the end of his career. Dumb ass.
Sigh...and these are all suppose to be aggressive southpaw fighters...yawn. LOLOLOLOLOL....yeah, style.
You're talking about a stance, not a style....I can counter that with all the orthodox aggressive mexican fighters through out boxing history.
Also, u named two fighters apart from Manny Pacquiao...why is that? That's right, because u cannot name more...because Filipinos don't have a style.
This dumb ass does not read well does he

Ok smart ass.. Who are the shining examples in say Puerto Rico right now? are there enough for them to have a style? I am talking about lb for lb fighters. If you look at the southpaw stance common in many fighters from the P.I past and present not by coincidence because most were right handed..Style maybe???? Elorde a HOF fighter was an aggressive south Paw as was Navarette, as Manny Pacquiao... Why I am I even explaing to you... You a hater... eh forget it.

Whoopti dooo how pinoys and hispanics have similar cultures---don't mean jack even though Filipinos lay claim to having Spanish blood and fantasize possessing European features....sad case.
Anyways, there's no such thing as a Filipino style...that's the biggest bs ever. They got Donaire and Pacquiao as their only shining examples of adequate boxers and now people think there's a style....wow, their PR people reallly did a number on the public.

Great post!!! I know the ability Pinoy fighters have and I admire them as not only boxers but the Filipino people in general. I dated a Pinay a while back and I couldn't help but notice how similar Filipinos are to Hispanics and especially Mexicans. She was very respectable and very humble, a quality that most of the Filipinos I've met have in abundance.
I was just responding to the misconception that Filipinos are just dominating Mexican fighters left and right. It's simply not true and that is not to take away from Pinoy fighters. They are very competitive when they face each other. Both countries have great talent and fighters and both country's fighters should be respected and admired.:boxing:
I see were you are coming from bro.. To say that anyone is dominating Mexican fighters is ridiculous. We all know what the Mexicans bring to the table when they fight... Excitement, heart, skill, etc.... My all time favorite fighters are Mexican and I am sure the current crop filipino fighters take a lot of their inspiration from the way Mexicans fight..We all know whats up, even the haters know that you can't fvck with mexico.
According to one of the puerto rican posters here there are around 4-5 pr in the hall of fame (I did not bother to look it up but regardless the Phil would not be too far off). Which shows the ignorance of people when it comes to Pinoy fighters. Villa, Elorde, Garcia, honorable mention in Espinosa a sure future hofamer in pacquiao and potential in donaire. How again does the Philippines produce nobodies.

Ok that is a champion every decade and most decades had multiple world champions since the 1920s. Back tHen there wasnt too much flag waving so people weren't even aware that they were pinoy in many cases. You can be stupid and hate be quick to speak and say that most weren't great. Hey they were world champions. For those who don't realize facts too well, to use a great boxing nation like puerto Rico who have had many champs.. How many were truly great hof fighters? Haters would judge every fighter and love to remember the hype jobs to forget the truth. The p.I. Has been obscure and fighters unmarketable due to a fan base that was across the pacific, but nevertheless, have produced a significant amount of hall of fame fighters by comparison. but they are back and are strong. Haters still gona hate though
Cannot give you GREEN K just yet but I will a bit later....and yes, there's been many champs and for a small country like ours, we can only get better. :)
Not to disrespect the Filipino people but that is pretty much all the greats you guys have....Pancho Villa is the only one that is great and never lost to a Mexican but there is Ceferino and Penalosa in that list also so what other great Filipino am I missing?
People are just high on the recent Donaire and Pacquiao wins which is very understandable.
But you have to look at the whole picture you know?

Great Post!
Thanks...but what I want to see come out are those trained from our traditional FMA and into the sport of boxing. There are hordes of them and wait till they show up!
The ones to blame is the poverty of much of the people. To say that Filipinos lacked the champions are not very true at all. I've posted here about the FMA and boxing, but opportunity is not on the Filipinos' side because most would rather work than play sports.
But there are many Pacquiaos and Donaires out there just not being given the chance and no program to perpetuate it. There's also many champions from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s here and there but many won't even know or heard of because of their brief stints.
Aside from Pancho Villa, there's Gabriel "Flash" Elorde whom even Roberto Duran admired...and in the 80s there's Rolando Naverrette and Andy Ganigan (emigrated to Hawaii)...
But again, most Filipinos doesn't even know the art of Kali/Escrima/Arnis even existed and it was due to the fragmentation of the country. Imagine more than 7,500 islands with many dialects...
But truth to behold, google Guro Dan Inosanto whom was taught by Sigung Bruce Lee as one of the three certified personally by Bruce in the arts of Jeet Kune Do...and other than that, he is a master and learned of about 36 styles of FMA, Muay Thai, Krabi Krabong, Wing Chun, Silat....he also revived and called his own MaPhilIndo Silat from the Malaysian/Philippine/Indonesian arts of Penjak Silat from the Madjapahit Empire of the antiquity.
Mind you, it is only now that the Filipino warrior spirit is being recognized but it's been there for a long while.....
