No. I like Dynamite, but we've already done this "he's better, more mature and proven his toughness" thing before. The result was Usyk stopping him in their second fight. No need to replay.
A top P4P fights a great opponent, pulling it out in the championship rounds, wins a close fight against someone who is supposed to be his biggest rival. Boxing fans should appreciate the fight happening and realize that a fight between two top fighters SHOULD produce something close.
I wonder how many non boxers will respond by saying "this is utterly rediculous!"
Anyway, I agree with what was mentioned above that it may be more about HOW it's done. I can only assume that sparring is arguably the best way for fighters to prepare for an opponent that hits back, moves, slips, muscles, feints, clinches, etc. Heavy bags and pads don't prepare you for that.
HOWEVER, I think the problem is more about whether sparring sessions are gym wars vs. skill prep. JUst because it's the way it has always been done, that may not mean it should always stay the same. I just wonder how many careers are shortened because of head punishment in sparring.
I wouldn't say Clottey was slick either is Tim Bradley.
To be fair, the only slick guy a guy a superstar like Manny could fight is PBF. Anything else makes zero sense, I know we love boxing, but essentially it is Prizefighting and Manny's legend is set in stone.
True....maybe "slick fighter" is too general...
I guess I was referring to anyone other than another Mexican legend...even Hatton would be quite different
I think he left it all in the gym at 35 years old, Pacman's speed was too much, his movement made it hard for DLH to time him, and when you miss punches you expend a lot more energy, DLH got discouraged (though I watched the fight again and DLH WAS trying), Manny fought a perfect fight offensively and defensively vs a man who just didn't have it anymore
He's had some great wins...vs top guys, undefeated champions and HOFers..
However he unfortunately he lost to the top prime for prime fighters he fought...
Imagine if he won all of those fights...we'd be talking about a top 5 P4P fighter all time
they came to the realization that for the last two years he's been a lightheavyweight titlist beating up on middleweights at a catchweight...soon as his fans come to grips with this we'll be making some progress...
Not unlike ANY other fighter in Boxing history. That's nothing new.
I am very surprised Alan Green was overlooked for Dirrell...unless it was just easier to get Dirrell...or the unbeaten record of Dirrell "looked" better, being that Miranda beat Green and Ward beat Miranda
That's so dang sad...all the blood, sweat, tears, knockdowns, comebacks, friendships, training, money made, humbleness, time spent with fans, efforts in the ring, positive attitude even with a busted and swollen face...
Just the THOUGHT of someone getting away with murder and reaping benefits...or simply the case not being "solved"...is so sad...almost as if it was all for nothing...plus Gatti had just retired and was just beginning to enjoy life without the physical pain and training
Travis,my dude,I understand u quite well, all I'm saying is 99% of welterweight title fights are fought at the limit, why should the champ, the champ, give up the purse the weight and everything else?If Pacman wants the title,he's already getting the lions share, the champ deserves to defend where he normally does!!
That's my positioning. If Pacman is to challenge for the WW title, allow the champion to fight as his comfortable WW weight...and Pacman can weigh 141 for speed if he wants to or 147 for more strength and bulk if he wants"...but the CHAMP is a WW..he should be able to be 147 if he wants
I've seen a pic of them standing next to eachother and they look of exact same height to me.
That's the problem though, that people are making too much of a 1, 1 1/2 in height difference between two WORLD CLASS fighters
press conference photos with various types of shoes, sneakers, floor platforms, etc don't tell the story...
If one is listed at 6'2 and the other at 6'2 1/2...that means nothing between two world class fighters
Pac throws more combinations and overall looks faster...
but Floyd is just as quick on the release and quick to slip
both are quick on their feet
I'd say about equal, both just use their speed in different ways..Floyd for quick release and counters...Pac for combination and workrate
I will say that if it were up to me then only the true elite would make it. The same goes for every sport. I think its dumb that all these pro sports let these guys who are good but nothing special into the HOF. I was watching a guy talking about baseball one day and I think they were talking about Jeff Bagwell being in the HOF and I think most of them said he is. Then one guy said he thinks there should be a HOF and an Hall of Very Good. He said just think about Mickey Mantel and then Jeff Bagwell. He was like, come on now. These guys shouldnt be put in the same catagory and he thinks the HOF should only be reserved for the best of the best like Mantle
Yeah, it would be an injustice to those who did that "extra mile" for guys to just flow in..
Winky and Forrest were great talents and skills...but I believe they missed the mark by a major win or two...both beating the same guy twice shouldn't constitute for HOF induction...Forrest (RIP) lost his title immediately after Mosley and Winky's only other big win came vs a retired Tito
Yeah I think they both were top class in skills, but they both happen to have careers based on each beating Mosley twice...
however, those are their only standout victories
The fight will be more so contested on skill and executing gameplan better than their opponent rather than just speed. I think they'll both realize they have an opponent with great speed to contend with in round 1.
