I voted no to either. They both had a name off of Mosley. Outside of that, neither really stand out. They both lost their biggest fights. Winky's best win was an out of shape and retired Trinidad and Mosley.
Ditto for Forrest, sans Trinidad. Forrest got his block knocked off by Mayorga and lost to Sergio Mora. That's pretty much seals it for me.
Vernon Forrest only beat a few good fighters. Quartey won that fight, and I wanted Forrest to win...
Winky will get in based on fights I think he should have won (Vargas and Taylor). Because other than that, I think his resume is overrated.
I don't really think so personally but they may get in...according to some on here its not too difficult to get in...
If Gatti somehow gets in, you damn sure need to put Winky and Vernon in...
I voted yes for both of them. They are both legends and deserve to be in the Boxing Hall of Fame. :boxing:
I voted yes for Wink, no for Forrest. I just think the late great Forrest comes up a bit short.
I agree. Unfortunately, I don't think they'll be viewed as much - as it stands today, certainly not enough.
So you say no to all three?
Winky, Forrest, and Cotto?
I don't think I'm implying anything about wrong or right, just an observation.
I think a lot depends on how people view guys like Judah, Malignaggi, and Clottey when his time to be considered comes around.

Muhammed's case is more like Gatti's than anyone else. And that's probably why he's in. I don't think Cotto has that going for him. But again, your saying Cotto should get in because a couple of guys who might not have deserved it sneaked in. That's just wrong. And two wrongs don't make a right.

I feel you in a way. But the thing is Tito looked so damn good against Mayorga. That's why I really don't think the Winky win over Tito was that overblown. But the same could be said about Mosley to. He lost 2 in a row to Forrest. Then had a 3 round NC against Marquez. Then he won a fight against Hoya that most felt was a robbery. Then he fights Winky after that. Real bad version of Mosley.
Everyone looks good against Mayorga (except Shane). Mayorga's the guy you use when you need a good workout session.
As for Shane, I think he went through a real down period after Forrest. Plus, 154 just isn't a good weight for him. But to come back and beat the best welter in the world in shocking fashion? That helps immensely.
I backed off on the Norris stuff. IMO his case is better than Muhammed and Rosario. He was the man at 154 for a while and beat some very good fighters.
But what did Rosario and Muhammed do?
Rosario won the LW title 3 times and 1 JWW title, but never was "the guy" at those weights. His title reigns were also short if at all.
Muhammed defended his LHW title 8 times successfully but never beat a great fighter and has a mediocre record especially for a HOFer.

He probably will. But I think that calls into question some other guys who haven't. The win over Tito is highly overblown IMO. But his two wins over Mosley are very impressive. I can't think of much else though aside from longevity. It's not his fault he was avoided but his resume isn't the strongest out there.

Vernon Forrest is a hall of famer of course
Amateur Record 225-16
Professional Record 41-3 (29 Knockouts) 1 NC
5 Time World Champion
YES Hall of Famer.
No way. Cotto? Compared to who, Terry Norris? Hell no. I mean, I get what you're saying because I think Norris was generously enlisted but that doesn't mean Cotto should as well. Norris was one of the best fighters in the world for a long, long time. Rosario? No comparison.

I was making the case earlier that if Saad Muhammed, Terry Norris, and Edwin Rosario are in the HOF, Cotto is a HOFer. I think the same applies with Winky.
