Yuriorkis Gamboa is the most exciting fighter in boxing today!!!!!
I approve of this thread.
Having only glanced at the first page, I would guess that it eventually deteriorated into a Juan Ma vs. Gamboa debate.
Juan Ma is very exciting as well.
Dawson simply didn't fight smart. It's not his nature to fight aggressively, but he was most effective when he pressed the action, got in Pascal's face and threw combinations. Pascal was simply covering up and not looking to counter, but Dawson didn't realize that was clearly his most effective method of attack until it was too late.
Props to Pascal for capitalizing on opportunities and inflicting damage with his flurries, but Dawson lost that fight more than Pascal won it, IMO. There is no excuse for failing to realize coming into tonight that he needed to flash more of an active workrate than ever before since he was fighting in Pascal's hometown and he's not a KO artist by any means.
Hopefully Dawson learns his lesson and becomes a more offensive-minded fighter.
I'd appreciate a stream as well, if one is available.
If someone could notify me of the Sopcast channel the fight is on, that would be a perfect alternative if there is no stream
There have been some on point and some incredibly ignorant statements made in this thread...
- "nog is supposed to have some of the best striking around, and is considered to have a legendary chin"
LMAO at some of the best striking around. Nogueira is considered to be one of the greatest ground fighting heavyweights in MMA history. He has outstanding Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He undoubtedly does not have some of the best striking around. And the guy who knocked him out (Cain Velasquez) is going to be the UFC HW champ by the end of the year and he's going to hold that belt for a long time.
As has already been mentioned, Nogueira's been in wars throughout his career and the quality of his once legendary chin has deteriorated over the years. That's certainly not uncommon for a combat sport athlete.
- "Rampage vs Rashad was like their Mayweather vs Pacquiao, and it only did 900,000"
Ignorant comment that couldn't be more off-base. It was a non-title fight between 2 guys who aren't #1 or #2 in the light heavyweight division (Shogun is the champion, Machida KTFO'd Evans when they fought and he's #2). They're good, not great, fighters and the reason the PPV sold as well as it did was because the promotion marketed their "bad blood." It wasn't some sort of MMA superfight.
- "I've never met a legit boxing fan that watches mmgay seriously and buys the PPV's. Usually it's some 15 year old punk suburabite..."
Do you find the irony in claiming that MMA fans are immature teenagers and then proceeding to call the sport "MMGay" in every one of your responses, like an immature teenager would?
- "I watched the ppv (well it's free in the UK) and the commentators repeatedly told us that this was the most anticipated fight in UFC history"
It's important to note that the UFC's commentators, who are atrocious, make hyperbolic statements such as that one on a continual basis. That claim certainly wasn't true by any stretch of the imagination.
- "That's all fine. I'll never watch it, but if 925k enjoy it enough to purchase the show, good for them."
It amazes me that more people don't have this poster's opinion. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with not being a fan of MMA. But spewing ignorance because you loathe it for some unknown reason is utterly ridiculous.
And for those who don't feel this topic should be discussed in this section, I certainly won't dispute that. There seem to have been quite a few MMA threads in the NBS section lately, and since all they tend to do is inspire confrontational rhetoric it's probably best to keep the MMA related threads in the MMA forum.
I'm a big, big fan of Gamboa but I certainly give Juan Ma credit for a great performance tonight. Yes he got caught and dropped but it's because he was being aggressive and trying to get his opponent out of there as early as possible.
I appreciate that he takes chances to please the fans and, far more importantly, apply pressure on his opponents. Lopez had a very nice performance, congratulations to him.
All I hear from boxing guys is "MMgay". And how a boxer could knock an MMA guys block off.
And I'm not saying that boxing isn't fighting. I'm saying that boxing is only a small part of fighting. Boxing in a boxing match isn't fighting... it's just punching.. it's just boxing. Boxing is a tool of fighting. It's like calling wrestling fighting. Is wrestling fighting? By itself? No. It is a tool of fighting.
MMA as a sport, is the sport of fighting. You can use MOST fighting tools, and diciplines.
You just contradicted yourself. "Boxing in a boxing match isn't fighting." "I'm not saying that boxing isn't fighting."
Wrestling isn't fighting because it's based on positional dominance. Boxing IS fighting because damage is constantly being inflicted from start to finish.
Also, should I pull up the amount of deaths in boxing compared to MMA and bring them into this argument? After all, people get hospitalized/hurt/injured due to fighting. Boxing is far more dangerous, far more deadly, and more of a fight because two guys beat the hell out of each other throughout the entire duration of the bout.
You can't win with positional dominance where you're just maintaining top position and holding your opponent down (Maynard, Antonio McKee, Jake O'Brien, etc.)
I started reading this thread and got bored with how dumb it is by pg. 2...
I think we have discussed this over and over... That fight proves nothing. And until we see Couture get in a ring with Toney (which I doubt will happen because I'm sure he knows Toney will whip him 8 ways stupid), it will probably keep stupid fans like this, making stupid posts like this. I don't think ANYONE will deny that.
To each his own and it's said a million times already, both of these sports are different and one in the others element will most likely lose. Give it up already.
For me: The Sweet Science > MMA (The Sweet Science is Boxing for an MMA fan that doesn't know the term)
I gotta go read some real boxing threads... I'm just mad now.
Couldn't agree more, green rep'd
The worst part about it is the MMA fans flooding boxing forums with their ignorant "boxing isn't fighting" bull**** really are that stupid. They're not trolling, they're just moronic.
I appreciate MMA, but their elitist fans are some of the most egomanical, fairweather, and ignorant spectators in all of sports.
I'm sick of all the ****ing MMA threads in the NSB section. We have an MMA subforum, but instead we keep seeing ridiculous "MMA vs. boxing" threads pop up every 5 minutes.
yeah...I would think part of Dana White's strategy is to try to lure boxing fans to watch this UFC event and then get hooked on UFC so they can transition to being UFC fans. But so far it's turning me off to UFC even more than I was previously as this is one of the most boring dull series of fights I've ever seen in my life.
Bingo. Their marketing strategy is backfiring horribly. Boxing fans who hadn't followed MMA until tonight are going to be turned off by this borefest of a card. These fights have been atrocious.
I like both sports. But I take issue with people who talk trash about MMA saying that boxers would just walk in and beat mixed martial artists in a fight.
If you took the time to look around various boxing forums and listen to interviews from those in the boxing community prior to the fight, there was virtually no one claiming that boxers would walk into a sport they've never competed in and knock everyone's block off.
Did you see the press release where every boxer picked Couture to win easily (including Cotto, Malignaggi, Khan, Haye, etc.)?
The interviews where boxing trainers (Roach) and promoters clearly explained the UFC's business strategy in terms of setting up the Toney/Couture bout? Completely ruling out the possibility of a Toney victory?
You're taking issue with few, if any, people who genuinely believed a pure boxer could walk into MMA and win an MMA fight? Well boxing fans are going to take issue with ignorant claims from people like you who say boxing isn't fighting, which is beyond ridiculous.
Boxing is the sport of PUNCHING. MMA is the sport of FIGHTING.
Boxing is fake fighting.
And try to be civil, and try to debate in a reasonable manner.
I respect boxing the same as MMA. But to say boxers are better FIGHTERS just isn't true.
You have the audacity to say that boxing isn't fighting like other MMA elitist dumb****s from the Underground Forum & Sherdog who are wildly misinterpreting the outcome of last night's freak show bout, and then you ask for boxing fans to be civil while "debating" with you?
There's an MMA subforum at this site. If you want to talk MMA with other MMA fans, I advise you go there. If you're just trying to incite responses from boxing fans, you're not going to get very far.
First of all this whole MMA vs Boxing debate has been going on for years. Why? Because of you people.
You're on Boxing Scene inciting responses from boxing fans, genius. MMA fans with little brother syndrome perpetuate the **** out of the ridiculous MMA/boxing debate, you're delusional if you feel otherwise.
Do you see us on the Underground Forum or Sherdog giving a **** about your favorite sport. No. But you're here pumping your chest out.
And "we're" the ones who are responsible for the ongoing debate. LOL.
