Previous UFC PPV (UFC 113) did over 500,000 buys with the two main-event headliners being Brazilian and not even speaking English.. Latest PPV with two Black headliners does over 900,000 buys. There goes the myth that MMA is a white's sports only!
Early Reports Indicate 920,000 Pay Per View Orders for UFC 114
The earliest cable estimate is 925,000 buys, which would make it the fourth highest number in UFC history. Any estimate this early is a very rough estimate, and the real number could end up significantly higher or lower. Based on that number, it would trail the 1.6 million for UFC 100 and the 1.05 million for the 2006 Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz fight, and right at 1 million for UFC 92 (a triple main event of Evans vs. Forrest Griffin, Frank Mir vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva). It would be in the same range as UFC 91, with Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture, and UFC 94, with the second Georges St. Pierre vs. B.J. Penn match. Both of those shows were really one match drawing shows.
...Most impressive is that it was a one-match show as far as marquee value. Had Griffin not pulled out of his fight with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, adding Griffin, one of the company's top draws, would have probably pushed it past the 1 million mark. Without him, I thought it would fall a little short.

There have been some on point and some incredibly ignorant statements made in this thread...
- "nog is supposed to have some of the best striking around, and is considered to have a legendary chin"
LMAO at some of the best striking around. Nogueira is considered to be one of the greatest ground fighting heavyweights in MMA history. He has outstanding Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He undoubtedly does not have some of the best striking around. And the guy who knocked him out (Cain Velasquez) is going to be the UFC HW champ by the end of the year and he's going to hold that belt for a long time.
As has already been mentioned, Nogueira's been in wars throughout his career and the quality of his once legendary chin has deteriorated over the years. That's certainly not uncommon for a combat sport athlete.
- "Rampage vs Rashad was like their Mayweather vs Pacquiao, and it only did 900,000"
Ignorant comment that couldn't be more off-base. It was a non-title fight between 2 guys who aren't #1 or #2 in the light heavyweight division (Shogun is the champion, Machida KTFO'd Evans when they fought and he's #2). They're good, not great, fighters and the reason the PPV sold as well as it did was because the promotion marketed their "bad blood." It wasn't some sort of MMA superfight.
- "I've never met a legit boxing fan that watches mmgay seriously and buys the PPV's. Usually it's some 15 year old punk suburabite..."
Do you find the irony in claiming that MMA fans are immature teenagers and then proceeding to call the sport "MMGay" in every one of your responses, like an immature teenager would?
- "I watched the ppv (well it's free in the UK) and the commentators repeatedly told us that this was the most anticipated fight in UFC history"
It's important to note that the UFC's commentators, who are atrocious, make hyperbolic statements such as that one on a continual basis. That claim certainly wasn't true by any stretch of the imagination.
- "That's all fine. I'll never watch it, but if 925k enjoy it enough to purchase the show, good for them."
It amazes me that more people don't have this poster's opinion. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with not being a fan of MMA. But spewing ignorance because you loathe it for some unknown reason is utterly ridiculous.
And for those who don't feel this topic should be discussed in this section, I certainly won't dispute that. There seem to have been quite a few MMA threads in the NBS section lately, and since all they tend to do is inspire confrontational rhetoric it's probably best to keep the MMA related threads in the MMA forum.
lol exactly. bob arum already exposed these cunts
when richard shafer said he would hire his own guy to check if the numbers were real or not, the UFC declined
bob arum said they exaggarate their numbers to make themselves look better
dana white said UFC 100 did 1.7 million buys. bob arum said the ACTUAL numbers were south of 1 million. i trust bob on this way more than dana ****in white. bob has more inside connections and has nothing to gain from lying. dana does on the other hand...
shogun and machida actual numbers were probably less than 300k, and rampage and rashad probably did around 500-600k ...if they were doing numbers like this, then how come none of their fighters are rich yet considering they get a PPV cut? surely with a cut of 1 million ppv buys, you would think their fighters would be rich, right?
the other thing i found funny is when they tried to brag that rampage-rashad did 920k buys while having only ONE MARQUEE name fight...but doesnt boxing do this every ****in time?
you tellin me 1.4 million people bought mayweather/mosley to watch cornelius lock and ponce de leon? :haha:
The UFC do a PPV every month, sometimes more while Mayweather had months of build up and the most expensive ad campaign ever. Mayweather may have done 1.4 in may, but the UFC's already done over 3.5 million so far this year. Very different models between both sports.
lmao! You obviously know nothing about MMA. Rampage vs Evans is nothing like Mayweather-Pac. A Mayweather-Pac in MMA is like GSP vs Anderson Silva.
More like Brock vs Fedor.
UFC is popular in the US because our country is filled with retarded rednecks from the midwest and the south. Nobody intelligent is a UFC fan. Most sports fans that watch basketball and football don't even know what the UFC is.
Thats actually false, MMA fans are actually one average more likely to be educated and have higher income than boxing and NBA fans. Don't know about football.
http://mmafrenzy.com/12317/study-mma-fans-are-young-wealthy-and-tech-saavy/
"Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) is attracting young, wealthy, high-tech consumers, according to Scarborough Sports Marketing’s first-ever look at the sport. MMA fans are defined as those adults who watched the sport on broadcast or cable TV during the past year. The six-month survey of 221,000 adults ages 18+ in 81 top U.S. markets, including every big-league city, found that MMA fans are 15% more likely than the average American adult to have a household income of at least $75,000 and 10% more likely to own a second home. MMA fans also are above the national average for current ownership of high-tech household items such as HDTVs, VOD service, video game systems and broadband Internet."
MMA is orite, but no point posting UFC ppv figures, because boxing ppv for big fights still do better in a slump. Wait till Pac-Floyd deal is done and then we will post PPV figures for that fight. *Praying the deal gets done*
UFC is a private company, Those figures are just the bloated figures that Dana white and his apostoles put out there. I would take them with a pinch of salt.
everyone check "thegoldstandards" sig
its a gif of a guy named nogueria getting KTFO by a wrestler. nog is supposed to have some of the best striking around, and is considered to have a legendary chin...he had never been stopped in a long career, but as soon as he stepped up and fought 2 guys with good boxing, he gets sparked out ...so much for the "legendary chins" of mma...
do you know how many wars Big Nog has been through in his career, and how many times his chin helped him through trouble??? Anyone who knows about the sport of MMA will tell you Nog hasn't been the same in quite some time.
the PPV numbers could be exaggerated a little, but I guarantee those numbers aren't far off, MMA is very big, though this fight wasn't comparable to Pacquiao vs Mayweather, you would have to set up GSP vs Anderson Silva and Lesnar vs Fedor on the same card to compete, this was a big fight.
MMa isnt a sport. I love boxing but I also follow basketball...
Right, because ESPN airing the winner of the fights immediately following PPVs means nothing to how MMA in total is now being received by mainstream sports media.
Get with reality bruh...
You live in a closet with a laptop then lol...
A lot of Boxing fans aren't that close minded to have such a hard on for Boxing that they ignore all other contact sports. That's borderline obsession.

I've never met a legit boxing fan that watches mmgay seriously and buys the PPV's. Usually it's some 15 year old punk suburabite that watches a few mike tyson highlights on youtube and calls himself a boxing expert.

So jason statham is a retarded redneck from the midwest and the south, adrian peterson, reggie bush, larry fitzgerald. Should I go on?
You can't compare an MMGAY card to a boxing card.MMGAY loads it's card's like pro wrestling does.boxing has the main event and in the rare occasion a decent undercard.
The ufc sells on it's name alone. It guarantee's the quick knockouts that the uneducated, casual fan likes to see because virtually everyone of it's fighters has a glass jaw.
Those numbers aren't proven to be legitimate either.
How does this change the fact that a good majority of people (Boxing fans included) still buy UFC cards?
As great as some Boxing cards are promoted, are they always as good as promoted? Or do we just say "Yes" because it's Boxing? Ignorance goes hand in hand...
