I think this will be a great fight. Two studs in their prime. Both undefeated. Can't ask for more. Thank you if the fight gets made because it will be a violent match while it lasts. Both guys are going to want to prove themselves. We the fans win.
Great performance from Ortiz jr. He broke Hooker down with those body shots and pressure. Too bad about the injury. The fight had heated up and both were exchanging punches. Great fight for both sides, Mo fought like a warrior and was easily the best opponent for the young Ortiz.
That's a good point you make however, Taylor wasn't a better fighter than Mosley ( who took Margarito's soul). Pac man would have sparked Taylor,(similar to what he did to Hatton). I liken Taylor to Judah's level imo.
Can't be denied. Valdez dominated Berchelt who at the very least was a very solid champion.
I think some of the credit needs to go to Eddie Reynoso, Valdez was a give and take fighter at featherweight. The improvements were there for us to see.
His use of the jab last night was masterful. If he keeps that up he's a problem for anyone.
Especially for the shorter fighter with less reach. The jab controlled the fight. Good observation.
- -Not U fault.
Ring experts save one all picked Berchelt to dominate, the ultimate curse a fighter has to carry into the ring sorta like Deyonce black monster suit.
So blame Ring for not knowing Berchelt had been too tight at 130 for too long and finally got caught out plus they never explored how sick he may have been by Corona.
I was definitely influenced by the poll ringtv did. I agreed with many of the picks.
As for Berchelt being tight at the weight, after watching the fight, I totally agree.
The most impressive thing for my eye last night was how the man with the shorter reach employed the jab and avoided Berchelt' shots. He made the former champion look basic and one dimensional.
Yeah, I gotta co sign this, I thought he was gonna get steamrolled, he was masterful in there last night. Incredible performance capped off with an incredible KO.
The way he set that trap for the injured Berchelt was a thing of beauty. Valdez walked Berchelt into that left hook to finish the fight.
I liked his style of fighting when he was at '30 and '35. Stayed in the pocket and walked guys down. As another poster said, he tried to emulate Floyd too much after that. Also at the smaller weight, he was much bigger than his opponents and looked better against smaller fighters. Once he moved up to '47 he had no more pop on his punches because his opponents were the same size or bigger. Too bad the street life influenced him. With dedication, he could have been a much better fighter.
If Spence were to ko Crawford, you'd have to rate him as no.1 at 147 and at least top 3 p4p. Imo, a win over TC and by ko would be just as good as Lomo's resume.:boxing:
Lewis right hand was thrown straight down main street. He fought a who's who of the division in his era. Hard to find a way to compare but imo Lewis had the better shot.
Wilder still trying to fool the gullible casuals that he wants the Joshua fight. :lol1:
The payday sure wont hurt as an incentive. Not to mention the undisputed heavyweight championship. (Provided both win) if it does come off its a superfight if they promote the hell outta it.
I've been going back and forth on who I think is going to win. An interesting thought.. what if Fury walks Wilder down and stays on the inside to smother the right hand? The added weight the switch to kronk is it all adding up? I think Fury will employ that strategy. The writing is on the wall. Fury will take the fight to Wilder this time. Can't wait to see what happens!!
I would love to have seen Marquez and Morales share the ring. The fourth fight between Pac and Jmm was the best in the series. I could see Marquez and Morales fighting more than once to settle the score.
Perfect timing for Cotto to walk away from the sport. He felt Ali's punches more than he would have earlier in his career. He fought threw an injury and paid for it by having less to discourage SA. And got buzzed for his effort to give us fans a fight. The hall of fame is waiting for Miguel Cotto and he deserves to be there after a great career. Didn't win them all but gave his best in every fight.
Very thankful for all the times I've enjoyed watching him fight.
Kudos to Saddam Ali. He beat the odds. Everyone thought he was there to lose and he won the fight.
Kudos to both fighters making it out of the ring relatively safe. I saw Crawford controlling most of the fight. Madrimov just didn't throw enough punches. He has a herky jerky style but just straight feinted too much without throwing. He seemed to me to be too cautious about Bids power punches from different angles. Where does Bud go from here? I think he should continue to unify the division. Canelo is a reach too far and I don't think the ginger bread man will be too interested in the fight. 54 is the top of the ladder for Crawford imo.
I think no matter what weight they fought from lightweight to Jr Middle Floyd Mayweather wins. It just depends on how. Tbud would land that right hook maybe once. Floyd would compute that and respond. Good match up.
This card reminds me of an old Don King card. Top to bottom, all known fighters that could headline themselves. We as boxing fans have gotten used to the watered down cards offered up as of late. It's refreshing to see somebody who just wants to make the best fights. I ordered the PPV this morning and am very excited to watch with friends and family.
As for who wins..? I'll give my thoughts quick.
Terrance Crawford W12
Pitbull Cruz wins by KO8
Andy Ruiz Win over Big Baby.
Jared Anderson KO11 over Bakole
Morell KO2 over Hot Rod
Cruz wins by decision
Ok so what do think about the mythical match I proposed? Do you like Hopkins or Toney? And if you haven't seen either fight.. watch Hopkins vs Trinidad and the Toney vs Barkley. Great fights.
This man brought his lunch pail and got to work. Lopez had less speed, power and athleticism and still pushed a rusty Thurman to the limit in that round. Kudos to J.L. for being a warrior.
That was an elegant finish to a brutal sport. I will miss hearing the "story of the fight" from Lampley and crew. HBO set the standard in big time boxing for many years and moving forward, will be what others strive to achieve. The production, everything about it will be missed greatly here. Thanks for the opportunity to watch fighters reach for greatness. It will be missed.
