I stated in a thread I was rooting for Valdez but my pick was Berchelt. Boy did he ever prove me wrong.
What a masterful performance from the smaller fighter. He was shorter, less reach, lighter and had got dropped in his first fight at 130lbs.
The signs were there for Berchelt to win the fight.
Nobody told Oscar Valdez he would win except his family and team. The way he controlled the defending champion with the jab and movement was the sweet science in its truest form.
So I humbly apologize to Oscar Valdez for doubting him. He proved a lot of people wrong, including myself, a fan of the sport for 30 yrs.
Yeah, I gotta co sign this, I thought he was gonna get steamrolled, he was masterful in there last night. Incredible performance capped off with an incredible KO.
The way he set that trap for the injured Berchelt was a thing of beauty. Valdez walked Berchelt into that left hook to finish the fight.
- -Not U fault.
Ring experts save one all picked Berchelt to dominate, the ultimate curse a fighter has to carry into the ring sorta like Deyonce black monster suit.
So blame Ring for not knowing Berchelt had been too tight at 130 for too long and finally got caught out plus they never explored how sick he may have been by Corona.
I was definitely influenced by the poll ringtv did. I agreed with many of the picks.
As for Berchelt being tight at the weight, after watching the fight, I totally agree.
The most impressive thing for my eye last night was how the man with the shorter reach employed the jab and avoided Berchelt' shots. He made the former champion look basic and one dimensional.
