SYNOPSIS: You won the WBC title against a long time reigning titlist and are meeting your manager for your next opponent....who are you picking?
Your record is 33-7, with 19KOs.
Would you pick options A or B or C?
A: Voluntary defense against an overmatched opponent in your hometown for $400K. You will be ridiculed and called a duck and a lucky bum who won the title on bad judging by BoxingScene posters. If yo choose this option, you will then miss the opportunity to unify and will called to face a mandatory in his backyard for 200K and get TKO'd in the later rounds.
B: Face the WBA/Lineal Champion in his home country of Thailand in a matchup where you are 98% guaranteed to lose via UD for 5million dollars
C: Retire from boxing after achieving your longtime dream, with 50K in the bank
i call shenanigans. if you're fighting a thai fighter in thailand it means you're fighting in one of the lower weight classes. i'm pretty sure those guys don't get 5 million dollar paydays. even featherweight to junior welter is pushing it. tank only got a 1.5 million guarantee for his last fight and 2 million for the romero fight before ppv upside
Would obviously be B IMO, based on the record it seems like this hypothetical fighter would need the money. I never knew Thailand paid the big bucks. :lol1:
I was sort of directing it towards the angle of nobody sees your fight on TV
B route, and I place a very large bet against myself so I win even more, then negotiate a fight with the WBO or IBF belt holder because my name still has some value as the recently dethrone champion, lose, retire and get a commentating gig for a network and start my own line of protein powders and blenders like Big George did with his grills. I retire in Indonesia where the cost of living is super low.
I'd combine A & B. Fight an overmatched opponent in my home town. Bet a shyt ton of money on my opponent using a distant relative who lives in Vegas and can spread that bet over a dozen or so casinos.
Take a dive...

Even those calculated risk with a lesser fighter there are no guarantees in boxing. Always have to go for the bigger money. If you win the next one will be the same or bigger.
Please man you would follow in your idols footsteps take the path of 20% or less resistance while saying you the best
My ''idol'' is the representation of greatness.
Both athletically and, more importantly, financially.
Please suffer quietly.
Definitely B, if I've had seven losses I need the money; but if I do A, whilst blaming B for being on the 'other side of the street', the fans might be more accepting.

Follow the $$$$$ (one doesn't become an athlete to stay broke).
Reach the mountain top of the sport
Become the face of said sport (you know....legacy an sheeeeit).
Or cash out.
Taking your money, and not too much of a beating, and GTFO can also be a good idea.
Me, I'd like to collect all the belts and have a long reign :boxing:
