Fast, athletic, explosive powerful with a poor chin and below average fundamentals.
A better athlete than he was a boxer.
A great salesman.
A good CW in a poor era that avoided the real threats and probably one of the worst ever HW titlists. He knew how too sell a fight though.
People may say it was **** talk but I feel Tony Bellew summed him up perfectly and spoke the truth of what he really was as a person and a fighter. Absolutely hit the nail on the head for me.
Pretty much this, disagree with poorest HW titlist though, hes just too small for the modern era of HW's for me. Completely agree on Bellew though... I thought Bellew was talking s*** at first but the more you think about what he said the more it makes sense, once he lost that athleticism he was pretty much f*****.
Khan is a china chin doll. Nobody would pay to see that.
Khan was paid an estimated 7 million to fight Billy Dib a matter of weeks ago, they would both get paid very well to fight in Saudi Arabia.
Retire on a high... even if he fought Khan next and won, the only benefit would be a good payday, retiring on beating Thurman is a better way to go out.
Plus it's unlikely that he will go on to beat the likes of Crawford or Spence, at least logically... Pacquiao excluded Spence from that poll for a reason.
... of course...
... while all the die hard Floyd's fans above are shouting: "retire, retire"!... :)
He's in his 40's and fighting in a weight class that arguably has the deepest talent pool, not only currently but also historically. Why keep going and risk getting beaten into retirement when he can just go out on a high?
Its got nothing to do with Mayweather, he's not coming back, that's abundantly clear and they've already settled it 4 years ago.
Yea he sold on those UK ppv's but not on the world stage..He is still really unknown and if you put him on a national ppv broadcast he would do less then 100k...To be brutally honest Joshua-Wilder on ppv would not break 300k IMO neither are really known outside of hardcore fans and both sides are doing a horrible job as getting them known..iT IS TIME TO TAKE THESE 2 TO THE BIG STAGE AND STOP THIS LOCAL SH1T!!
Joshua is practically a household name in the UK now so I don't understand how you can say nobody outside the hardcores know about him. Its Wilder who isn't that well known in his own country.
Joshua's paydays compared to anyone else at HW alone shows why he's a huge draw, you don't get paid it unless you generate it and anyone in the HW division will get their biggest payday fighting him, he's been marketed amazingly.
They should fight in the UK if they don't think it will do big in the US, it will do massive numbers over here, there's a lot of money to be made over here in Boxing and that's why many foreigners are asking Hearn to sign them.
Skill wise they are very close, different styles but probably equally as effective as each other in their own way. I think if they fought now though I think Loma would win based on the size and age difference, when two fighters are practically identical on skill then you usually go with the fresher/bigger guy.
:pat:
Charlo doesn't have to keep making noise
He is ALREADY the WBC Madatory
Why is that so hard for you mofos to understand???
I'm saying he's fighting Canelo right now, and he'll explore his options after, many will want a rematch with Jacobs whether he wins or loses. I said if Charlo keeps doing his thing and continues to make noise, I think the fight will happen. How have I misunderstood anything?
I mean ffs he's got a super fight with Canelo next month, do you seriously think Charlo is the top of his priorities?
AND something big to add about the Brook fight, he wasn't going to fight Brook. Brook was the replacement fighter. Everything was set to fight Eubanks Jr. would pulled out at the last minute thanks to his daddy make ridiculous demands after everything had been agreed to. Eubanks is currently ranked as the 7th best MW by Ring Magazine.
The fight might happen but it isn't going to be soon one way or another. It realistically could be until 2019 depending on Golovkin's activity level. Charlo in the meantime needs to get to work. I hope for his sake and the sake of the division he is serious about cleaning it out. Cleaning it out isn't waiting for a potential fight against the title holder.
Good shout, somehow forgot about the Eubank Jr. thing, I remember watching a few interviews and Hearn called Brook asking if he'd accept the same offer and Brook jumped at the chance of the payday.
You aren't he is just being an idiot. I have nothing against Charlo, I think he is a very good fighter. I want to see him fight and if he keeps winning I want him to get his shot. I don't want him waiting around for years.
Who wouldn't be excited about a Charlo vs. Jacobs fight or Charlo vs. Lemieux fight? I just want to see him get in the ring, it is silly advocating that he should be waiting around for Canelo and Golovkin given their situation (especially Golovkin). He's told you what his plan is.
Exactly, they've got bigger plans atm, Charlo should keep doing what he's doing and keep calling them out, beat the guys they've beat in better fashion than they did, etc. Get your name out there to the casuals. Then the fight will definitely happen because it makes financial sense.
At the end of the day we've got nothing to complain about from GGG or Canelo right now, we've been asking for this fight for ages, its happening, its a super fight, its next month, lets just enjoy it and look forward to more, 2017 has been one of the best years for boxing in a long time IMO.
Brook didnt even prove himself at 147 and got an immediate shot at GGG..WTF did Willie Monroe prove??? or Wade?? oh wait yall are going to say Wade was mandatory right?? well so is Charlo!!!! Why all the roadblocks for Charlo??? Rosado came straight to 160 and got a shot(where did he prove himself)???
Ya'll are full of sh1t and refuse to just admit ya'll want no parts of Charlo as ya'll feel he is a threat
Well he's fighting Canelo next so we can't sit and complain about GGG's choice of opposition, plus he fought Jacobs last who was a live opponent.
He gets a pass for Brook because he was offered a lot of $ to come over to London and fight when lets face it Canelo wasn't interested and he was struggling to get any good payday, most active fighters would have done the same in GGG's position.
I'm sure if Charlo keeps making noise at MW and GGG gets past Canelo and continues to dominate the fight will happen, I think Jacobs deserves a rematch before though because I had him winning.
listen and obey the ref's command, isnt this the instructions given to BOTH fighters BEFORE a fight? the ref doesnt have to jump in from 6 feet away, and how could he when he's 6 feet away? that's why he yelled out "stop punching".
How can you when 6 feet away? Just jump in, stick your hand between them, let it be known. When you're focused on the fight and are ready to let your hands go at any moment, just saying it without separating them isn't enough sometimes, these guys are in fight mode, he should of said it even louder and split them. The ref was nowhere near firm enough, its a fight... these guys are filled with adrenaline.
Shouldn't have been called a KD by any means, and Gatti should have been given a few mins to recover... but the ref was to blame for it. Either way you could tell Gatti was well out of his depth that night.
Really good fight for boxing fans, a borefest for casuals though, there'll be a lot of hitting thin air in this fight for both guys. That being said I'd love to see it.
And now they releasing clips of mcgregor beating paulie in sparring.....lol
Yeah that's gonna help a great deal too lol, these two guys are making a ton of money at Paulies expense, Floyd should buy him a Bugatti after this :lol1:
I agree that a 23 second video means nothing to how the spar went overall, but he'd be crazy to release 12 rounds of sparring with his most experienced sparring partner pre fight, giving away his tactics.
Even if Connor ****ed Paulie up it means nothing, Paulie is shot, out of fighting shape and above all else is not cut from Mayweathers cloth. If anything it would have been good to keep Paulie sweet because he's very knowledgable and could have helped Conor.
I think the knockdown was very debatable btw, whether it was a slip, a shove or a punch is irrelevant to me, we should be drawing attention to that nice backhand Conor landed, hes got some serious pop in that punch, something Floyd should look out for.
Rigo fans be like "Rigo should be the A-side because he beat Donaire 4 years ago!"
I'm a big Rigo fan, and a fan of Loma but probably more of a Rigo fan and honestly Rigo should accept whatever offer he gets within reason, hes not in a position to be picky and has very little time left in his career.
This is definitely a fight that could be, hmm, technical and amazing, but boring too.
But on the other hand, I actually think that this match up would be interesting and pretty exciting too. Not a slugfest necessary, but I think Loma would pressure him at the times and it would be amazing to watch their movement and footwork there.
This match up needs to happen
It would be amazing to watch for anyone who loves to see boxing in its purist form, if you like a bit of action it wont be for you though :lol1: I'd love to see it personally.
He makes a fair point but I can't believe I've just watched a 8 minute analysis video on a 20 second sparring clip :lol1: when its all said and done even if he lit Paulie up a bit and dropped him, Paulie isn't Mayweather so it doesn't mean anything.
Sparring doesn't equate to Boxing experience.
Boxers hone their craft in sparring and gain their experience when they fight.
A guy with 0 fights at amateur or pro level has no boxing experience.
Exactly this, you can do all the sparring you like, nothing compares to an actual fight where there's a win/lose at stake to go on your record. That's where you truly gain experience.
Finally someone gets it.
Rigo seems to talk like he deserves these paydays on merit alone, and I agree that he deserves a payday, but its a business, and he needs to generate it to be paid it, some people don't realise that. Like Floyd and Ellerbe said the other day, these guys want it landing on their lap instead of doing the things he did to get there.
Rigo hasn't really had the backing he deserves but he hasn't done himself any favours, at least Loma is learning English so he can connect with the public a little bit.
This. I am a fan of both but I think I will have to go with Loma here.
I am more of a Rigo fan because I am in awe of his natural ability and think if he went pro earlier with the backing he could have been an ATG, too late for that now though, Loma does have time however and I think he's got first ballot HOF written all over him.
I agree with you though I think Loma wins, they're equally as talented and equally as effective in their own way, but Loma is bigger, younger and fresher, so I think he comes out on top from that alone. Rigo should take it regardless because he's got no options whatsoever.
I think it will outdo MayPac honestly, there'll be some antics at the final presser/weigh in and casuals will buy into it, honestly I live in the UK and there's loads more talking about this than MayPac this far out.
It will bring at least a million UFC fans who wouldn't usually buy a boxing PPV. Granted there's people boycotting it on principles but I can just see people on the day buying it just through intrigue, I think its a joke, and it pisses me off that its taken the shine off Canelo/GGG but i'll probably end up buying it through pure intrigue (its only about $30 over here though, no way would I pay $100).
Floyd, Connor and White are laughing to the bank, seriously, Floyd will be the first ever boxer to make over a billion in fight earning alone after this.
I don't know how people came to the conclusion that he's the hardest puncher Mayweather has faced because he's KO'd MMA guys who leave their chins hanging out to dry.
There really was no reason to be certain he punched harder than Maidana, Cotto, Mosley, Pac, people got too carried away with the unknown, maybe even some of us fell for it a bit. You're right though his power didn't faze Mayweather at all.
Floyd does have a great chin but McGregor isn't a puncher in Boxing, if Mosley, Maidana, Cotto, etc. hit those MMA guys clean when leaving their chins in the air with 4oz mitts they'd knock them out stone cold.
People are putting way too much emphasis on 50-0 and Marciano, if this fight hadn't presented itself Mayweather would of still been happily retired at 49-0, its the media making it a thing. He's had a great career whether you consider it to be a 50th win or not.
It is a shame that people always judge floyd after the fact..and never judge him on what the fighter was at the time or what they thought of that fighter at the time....
That's why i laugh at Haters like sin city who swore up and down Oscar would beat floyd and now he says floyd should be basically shot for even fighting oscar instead of a real challenge
No disrespect to Sin City but I have seen that quote... he also said if Floyd wins he will finally get his respect.
