While Marciano was undefeated, only 7 of his fights were World Title fights.
By the way, how big is boxing is South Africa?
Hi. Thanks for the reply. Boxing's OK here. Mismatches galore. There are no real up & comers anymore. We have a situation of oldies fighting oldies. They don't fill stadia anymore. One kudo though...Brian Mitchell made it to the Hall of Fame!
I haven't attended a live match for eons. I rather watch world titles on satellite feed. I get up at 3am due to the time difference and at times, it's really worth it.
There's no real 'hunger' with the fighters nowadays. It seems that if they win a few they expect a title fight....and invariably get one, in one of the many affiliations! It's a bit of a joke really.
What do you think? Obviously two different cases here. Joe Louis was THE champion for all of his defenses while Wlad hasn't even gotten all the belts yet. But counting the main 4 belts, (correct me if I'm wrong) he has defended at least one of them 12 times. He's almost halfway there and just entering the prime of his career.
If he gets by Haye, I see him dominating easily for the next 3 years. That's when the next batch of prospects will be coming through (Fury, Wilder, ect.).
Keep in mind, other than waiting 6 months for Haye in 2009, Wlad fights 3-4 times a year.
25 for Louis? What about Marciano's record??
That's too bad. How is the amateur program?
I don't see much happening. I know that we have an enthusiastic amateur association, but not much press coverage. Therefore, we only hear of things if a fighter explodes on the scene. In any event, the promoters tend to push them too soon...no real formative grooming...in it for a quick buck. Years back, they would have to fight through local ranks, then international, then commonwealth. Today's guys are not fighters in the old mold!! Sorry to say & see!
IMO, there is far too much money on offer and initially, no real pain for gain. Let's face it, there have been quite a few palookas who fluked a big payday. I mean really...who was that wanker that Cotto destroyed before the Clottey fight? Disgraceful really.
Don't talk shit! Have you seen Zellinoff's videos of his 'fights?' **** me!!! He's a girl dude!! A ****ing ***!!! He can't fight his way out of a wet paper bag!!
Pfffffffftttttttt. If everyone was as nice as DLH boxing would be boring. I found PBF performance annoying, but interesting. Just like Naseem Hamed against Barrera, it will be funny when Mayweather ends up on his ass.
He will end up on his ass. He's entering a different class....even though DLH is not a shadow of his former self. Why do you think PBF is taking the fight? Because he believes that DLH won't catch the younger guy. Is he in for a surprise!!
Is not that a fear of heights?
Anyways, I been long saying that Floyd is not right in the head. Another thing could be is that he is just very shy and unconfident in front of a public, so his act is wild.
Agoraphobia is an intense fear about being in public places where you feel escape might be difficult.
I think PBF is a nutcase and needs a good hiding!
To date, Cotto has proved to be the perfect package. He systematically breaks his opponents down. Whether they choose to box or fight, or both, it has not presented problems to him. Zab talks too much. Yes, he is fast...but speed alone will not beat Cotto.
If Zab happens to beat Cotto, then he will have ascended in my estimation of him. Because I believe that Cotto is the best in his weight division.
By the same token, stranger things have happened in this sport before!
I vote Cotto, I think Cotto has the resiliancy to withstand Judah's early assault. If he can get Judah into round five, Cotto wins this fight. Judah fades very quickly after the fourth round, losing almost all of his big power.
Cotto's body shots will be very effective and cause him to tire quicker. Judah will be depending on the straight left hand and it may get through, Cotto has great recovery skills though. Judah will get hurt and won't recover.
I tend to agree with you. I think it'll be a short night for Judah...maybe 7, 8 rounds.
Why is it censored??? (Oh...I see you meant senses!) LOL.
The more posts I read here by certain people, I am led more and more to believe that nobody goes to school in the USA.
Thanks for a great highlights package. Cotto has wonderful concentration, intensity and throws great combinations. A truly well schooled fighter.
Judah is in for a rude awakening! After this fight, he will reassess himself as a contendor. It's going to be mentally difficult for him to accept though!
I'll take 5 billion please! Cotto will kill him. If Judah was anything, or anywhere near Cotto in class....he would have proven himself a long time ago.
I'm sure this has already been talked about but a month later one of the biggest injustices in boxing history still stings. Bernard Hopkins won that fight-I know it and so does most people. A recent poll on ESPN shows that most of America believes a bad decision happened in Taylor Vs. Hopkins. The poll stated 41% people think Taylor won. 35% think Hopkins won and 24% think it was a draw. That means that a total of 59% of people polled believe that Taylor did not deserve the decision. I do not recognise Taylor as the Middlweight Champion because Hopkins is still the champion no matter what these crooked judges scored. Hopkins had Taylor hanging on for dear life at the later half of the fight. The rightful man is not at the throne right now. A great injustice in the world of boxing. Disgusting.
He was beaten...face it! BH did nothing for nearly 9 rounds, then thought Taylor would have tired and he could take him out. Yes...Taylor tired...justifiably so. He was the only one doing the fighting!
It's well known that a champion will retain the crown, if the fight is very close. Taylor TOOK the fight.
Next time out, Taylor will KO the chump!
How great is that! that would be a damn goood marketing plan.
Golden boy good looks, clean cut, goody two shoes doesnt, drink or smoke versus
El matador the villan shit talking brawler who just doesnt give a fuck and will take your best punch!
Who else thinks this would be a damn good money making fight?
What a stupid suggestion! DLH is finished. He's shot. Kaput! Only idiot fans would like see him attempt a comeback. He can only get very hurt from now on. If he fights again, I will then know that he has shit for brains!
Of course....if you look at in the sense that: Hopkins is an aging fighter then yes......Taylor does look imposing. My only rebuttle is this:
Hopkins has been taking it easy with his last few opponents....setting them up, and not throwing Haymakers all over the ring. Like they talked about....its a microcosm of him as a whole. he waits....and is patient. That can be the said for his actual MANAGEMENT in fighting others. He does not have the chance to be patient with Taylor, and he knows that. He is going to have to.....and WILL test Taylor's metal. This fight weighs much heavier on Taylor than it does Hopkins IMO.
People are saying stuff like: "What is Nard gonna do? How will he overcome time?. Im only saying, what is Taylor going to do...how is he going to overcome his general lack of serious opposition, him fighting the best inside and outside fighter he has ever faced, and generally someone who doesnt give a fuck.
This fight is compelling because it is a chance for Hopkins to show people how mean he really is in the ring. Alot of these boxing newbies talk about Hopkins being a pure boxer....who runs from everyone he fights. I laugh at that shit. I think he is going to go toe to toe and demolish the green fighter in 9 rounds. Taylor has never faced someone who was not scared of him. He will now face someone who fits this bill.
Firstly, a gentle correction. If Taylor was a knife maker, BH could very well test his metal. However, the word in this contaxt, is mettle!
Secondly...If Taylor throws caution to the wind and fights as he has been doing up to this point, he will beat up BH.
Either that, or Hopkins really is as good as the hype!
I didn't insult him I think I just stated the truth, Tyson at his current state would probably get beat by Klitcshko. I do think if Tyson got his mind right he could pick up a belt.
The only belt he's capable of picking up at this moment in time, is the one to keep his trousers up!! He's become a washed out journeyman. A 2 round wonder!
I agree 100% sensation. Barerra, when he fights like he did in the first and third fights, is the better fighter. I also think that Morales has taken the greater beatings from the trillogy and in other fights too! Barrera is simular to Evander Holyfield in the sense of his great comebacks from seemingly being shot and done. I think he recuperates over time well. I fear in Morales` case eventual burn out might hit him. About 3, 4 yrs down the line.....SHOT!
Yep....I have to agree. However, Morales is more of a spent force than anyone really realises. Review videos of his fights from 2/3 years ago...He's not the same commited fighter. He used to fight with intent. He commited his weight to every shot. Not now!
Barrera too, is declining. But what do the fans expect....Eternal youth?
Manny is now the ascending star....Cotto is now the ascending star. The older stars have shone....they are now waning! That's life!
Who would win? If they fight next or after a couple fights who would take it? In my opinion I think it's so smart that hes considering waiting a while(Jermain Taylor)hes young and fucking talented not make the same mistake(fernando vargas did) anyways post your opinions please.
BH is not strong enough for JT. Jt would have taken Eastwood out. Hopkins couldn't do it. JT will KO BH. In any event, I don't think Hopkins will take on the Taylor clash. In that regard, he's smart!
DLH is becoming a mere joke. One or two more fights and his previous fans will all turn against him. He's becoming a journeyman!
Kostya would take that fight with alacrity, due to the payday opportunity and proceed to knock DLH out cold!!
in the fight, larry merchant was talking about how he's from a village in africa called soo-way-too (that's how he said it. i'm not sure how you spell it). yeah, that was a hell of a fight. after a few rounds, looked like ledwaba didn't know where he was. also, manny was a late sub. ledwaba was supposed to fight another opponent. talk about bad luck... :(
I live in Johannesburg, South Africa and am able to help with info. Larry Merchant should have clued himself up before making a jackass of himself. Soweto, stands for South Western Township. In the old days, when SA was under the National Party Government, all Africans living & working in cities, stayed in what was referred to as townships.
Rural Africans lived in their own villages, dotted throughout the country.
The townships in all major cities exist to this day and are occupied by millions of lesser off in financial terms, people.
I watched the fight. Ledwaba fought an extremely off form Baloyi. Even then, he was unable to capitalise. Both he and Baloyi are not worth feeding! Manny would KO either of them within 1 to 2 rounds. Yes, the judging on the night left a lot to be desired. Rematch on the cards next year? They say so. I for one, will not even waste my time watching that crap again. He is totally washed up! Even if he beats Baloyi, I certainly don't think that he relishes a rematch with Manny....No matter how good the purse is!
Ledwaba, a few years ago, looked great against mediocrity, until the Manny era transcended.
