cotto should not sign the contract to fight pac if he doesn't think he can fight effectively under 147lbs.
If he signs the fight for a catchweight, he has no excuse.
That is all.
Boxing is not just about power. it's about skills, footworks, speed, power, stamina, and what strategy you'll gonna use on a certain opponent.
Oh I agree, I was speaking only to the power issue.
I been reading this kind of posts before the Dela Hoya and Hatton fight. That Pac wont take their punches.. :booty:
I'm not saying that he can't take the punches, we just don't know yet because the 2 bigger guys he fought, couldn't hit him.
As i said before, the fight will be won and lost on footwork.
If Pacquaio is able to find space to fire the lead and step out, then he will probably win the fight big, cotto's taken some real punishment and I think its beggining to take its toll.
For cotto to win he has to corner manny or get right infront of him and smother him, he can't allow manny to get on his bike. Manny isnt that great moving backwards, so if cotto can establish his jab and hook to the body off that, then manny is getting ko'd.
Remember weight advantage means more when you land your punches, even at 147, if cotto cant get set to get leverage on his shots, manny still might take him out.
He has definitely said he believes Margarito has used them before, and that you know what a trainer puts in your gloves. He says it in a sly and respectful way, though. He has definitely talked about that multiple times in interviews. thank you. cotto dont make excuses but he does belive margarito cheated as does his fans on here. but fukk that it doesnt change the loss on the record, im waiting on the rematch.
Yeah we don't even know if he could of handled Hatton's power for that matter, because Hatton was out of there before he could inflict any damage. I just don't know if folks are thinking Pacman will do a repeat on Cotto of what he did to Hatton? Are they thinking that Manny hits harder than Mosley, Margarito and Clottey? Are they banking on Cotto never landing?
No disrespect to Manny, but this is a huge step up in terms of the type of power he'd be facing.

But if youve read his interviews, the way he words his statements... you know damn well that is what he thinks.. anybody that reads between the lines can see what he is saying
Agreed.
I remember him saying it just the other day.
«i have never heard him say that. «i have heard him say that if he used them him and his corner know about it. but «i have heard him say that in that night margarito was the better fighter that is what «i have heard about when asked about the fight.. <
cotto can`t give the same answer say when asked if he thinks margarito has used loaded gloves in the past since being caught. anyone with some common sense will say the same thing he said.
again i reiterate, when asked about his loss against margarito he has never said he lost because of loaded gloves.
that is as far as «i know.

find the proof
Cotto has come down hard on marg and said that he cheated in their fight as well.
:bsflag:
and big time BS..
you find and quote the source of your BS information and we will all shut up. :firedevil:
«you mean some cotto fans would not have an excuse right?, coz even til this day cotto does not make excuses about the margarito fight.

Some of you might disagree, but IMO Pacquiao was slightly draining himself to make weight (130lb) for the last Marquez fight. Was he at his best? Possibly not. One year later and he looks immense at 140. Sharp as a razor and very powerful. He looks thicker and more solid. Those calves are ridiculous.
Is it possible his overall strength and punch resistance isn't being compromised at 140+, and by forcing himself down to 130 he was pushing himself a little too far and therefore weakening himself?
Regardless, getting wobbled by Marquez shouldn't be a surprise -- he is hardly feather-fisted. Dude KTFO some good fighters, even at 135.
Marquez may not be featherfisted, but his power cannot be compared to Cotto or Mosley.
Pac was fighting at 106lbs.. Id say thats a reasonable growth in weight. Even at 130lbs, he had still grown 26lbs. I wouldn't say he was draining himself too much. Not the way Cotto does, who rehydrates 13 pounds in 24 hours.
Nah, here's how I see it.
Anyone with a clue about boxing isn't expecting him to blow out Cotto like Hatton. It should be obvious to the majority that Cotto is the more dangerous opponent, he has a better skill set, plus he has a size advantage. Hatton didn't have a size advantage -- and man did I take some stick for saying this before the Pacquaio-Hatton fight.
Is anyone thinking Pacquiao hits harder than Mosley, Marg and Clottey?
Well, according to Rashad Holloway (he has sparred with Manny and Margarito), Pacquiao's power hurt more. It's a different kind of power, however, as Manny is helped greatly by his speed. Rashad's quote:
http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4718593&postcount=1
As for Clottey and Mosley, I have no clue, nor does anyone else unless they've been in the ring with both of them, so all we can do is guess. Most people probably think Shane hits harder, as does Clottey, and rightly so because these are naturally bigger guys. On the other hand, I have read articles which claim Pacquiao carries power up very well as his weight increases.
How I see it: Pacquiao's power should not be underestimated. Hatton underestimated Pacquiao, as did De La Hoya, and look what hapened there. If a fighter has the correct punching technique and is able to get his full weight behind his punches -- and I believe Pacquiao is -- then Manny probably hits as hard as anyone from 140 to 147+.
I don't think Clottey is a huge puncher. His KO ratio is not spectacular by any means. It's not impossible that Pacquiao hits as hard.
So how does it play out?
Who knows?! I have Pacquiao winning no matter what the weight due to his superior speed and mobility. Coupled with the fact that Manny is on a roll and Cotto could possibly still be recovering from the Margarito fight, I think Manny has this fight in the bag. It looks to me like Cotto has lost something. Undoubtedly, he is still dangerous but he doesn't look the same as he did when he was undefeated.
I am prepared to be proved wrong. If Manny loses, that's how it was meant to be. Cotto would deserve a great deal of respect for his victory.
Comparing power in sparring partners isnt pertinent. If you have ever sparred you would know fighters don't hit AS HARD as they can... some fighters throw power power when they spar than others.
The only way to judge who hits harder is talking to a fighter who has fought both fighters in a real fight.
Let me remind you of something that people tend to forget in light of Pacs recent performances.
LAST YEAR... IN MARCH... Pac was figthing at 130lbs, and was wobbled by Marquez.
Now... 18 months later... he WILL get hit by a 155lb Miguel Cotto...
Whether Pac can take THAT kind of power... is yet to be seen.

When you have a snapping punch coming at you, a punch that you don't see with some speed on it, that's an explosive kind of power that hurts you. That's the kind of power that startles you and can put you down.
When you have a heavy-handed individual, which is what I consider Margarito, his punches aren't the type that hurt you with one shot but an accumulation of them can put you down."http://www.boxingscene.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4718593&postcount=1

if pac fights cotto and cotto signs for a 80/20 purse.
will cotto fight??? damn no. he will not take it to waste his title.
he can fight at 145 for 60/40 split and non title fight.
@ 144 the fight should be 60/40 pac.
@ 147 the fight should be 80/20 pac, because pac is taking all the risk.
@ 142 the fight should be 50/50 because cotto is taking the bigger risk.
He's a WBO champion..and it's vacated title.
The WBO is the weakest and least respected of all belts.
correction
