Bradley by SD,Pac fans still cry robbery..
LOL. Not robbery, but blindness and delusion if you think Bradley got more than a handful of rounds. A ho-hum Pac beat him cleanly. A motivated Pac might not KO him (he'd need a bus, IMHO), but will dominate him dramatically. Especially since he doesn't have to be all that cautious about Bradley's (mostly non-existent) power.
Same as what the first fight should have been: Pac by a fairly wide decision. I don't think anything short of a bus will knock Bradley out, and Pac's had a post KO tune up... Frankly, I think Bradly beats anybody who's not Floyd, Pac, or Cotto on a good day, but he'll be in a bad way with any of those 3.
This right here. Arum clearly wants Provo for Manny and hasn't been shy about it.
And Provo likes the though of a giant sack of money, but I don't really think Manny or Provo or Roach feel too good about having them fight each other. Arum might want Tim to re-sign, but Tim probably doesn't want much in the way in a re-match with Pac, but wants to get to the other side of the fence to throw his name in the mix for the Floyd Lotto. Really, you'd think giving Tim a 'L' before he hops the fence would give Arum a grin (and would up the sock of his top earning fighter, and stick it to the delusional folks / Floyd fans that think Bradley won that fight).
Sorry if this has already been posted but this is a nice video on how Maidana used jabs
'Maidana used jabs' has to be on the list of words a lot of people thought they'd never have to say just a few years ago... I've seen about 1000 variations of 'Maidana' and 'jab' in recent days, and I smile every time. :boxing:
There is no real "safe" when in the ring with Marcos Maidana, but the closest you can get to it is holding on for dear life, ala Devon Alexander.
Even that's not that safe anymore. Post Devon Maidana will shove and rub your face with tape if you try to clinch up (and feed you some elbow, or otherwise do what it takes to make you not want to clinch). If the ref wont kibosh the holding it seems he will to take the warning(s), and risk the point(s) and DQ. I see the hand of his new trainer in that...
Well, I know what I saw (about 7-5 for Chino with my eyes) in a great, close, fight. I'm logging out for a few days just to let things settle down around here, and because I have stuff to do.
My last word is, "Clean punching, when roughly tied in number of landed punches, that fails to produce effective aggression, and fails to facilitate ring generalship, is worth less than hard volume punching that bullies the other guy, produces effective aggression, and allows for ring generalship." Round after round that's my bottom line in this fight. :boxing:
I want Maidana to do well since I like the guys heart and spirit. But the smart money is on a Mayweather UD. Hopefully it is a great fight to get boxing in the public consciousness.
This, and the 15 variations of 'he has a puncher's chance', pretty much sums up my feelings on the fight. I love Chino, and I think he's been pretty consistently underrated when it comes to his ability to 'get it done' (even if it isn't pretty), but I wouldn't put money on him getting it done this time. But I can hope. :)
**** the blue ones, who cares. Maidana agreed to the red ones that are approve and now Ellerbe and Maywether are on a crusade to ban horse hair from gloves.
You cant make this **** up. Now I know how Pac fans feel.
Sh*t, imagine how the poor horses feel.
OK, OK, I get this a all hype-- But Floyd and his camp seem to be playing insider pool, and Floyd is looking like an insecure diva with the glove and girlfriend stuff. The nostalgic looking back is also odd. If this is marketing to get viewers, OK, but it isn't making Floyd look good.
So as of now who are fighters that have a 50/50 fight with Floyd not named Manny Pacquiao? Pick em from 140-154
Beyond Pac only Bradley comes to mind, IMHO.
At this point, for everybody else their hopes have to be that Floyd gets caught or that Floyd gets old.
Can someone confirm what's the current situation with these gloves? Will Maidana wear different ones or is the fight off?
The last was that the custom coloured gloves were not ok, the same standard red ones were, but Floyd has a problem with those and apparently wants to get horse hair out of boxing (even though his fighter has used those gloves). Retired race horses seem happy, because while they may get used for dog food, glue, and gelatin, they'll get to keep their pretty, pretty, hair. (Some) Floyd fans are now penning a vast, years long, conspiracy involving the industrial participation of Everlast.
So about where it was last night.
Maidana is fighting Floyd, not Devon.
Not to mention Chino and his trainer have probably given a lot of thought on how to avoid having the 'Devon template' applied to him again.
Agreed. Maidana will not go down.
He SHOULDN'T go down, but he WON'T stay down.
Just watched the Matthysse fight. Argentinians, often down, never out! :boxing:
First, thanks Chino for the great fight!!! I've followed you since you came to the US and you've never disappointed (with one exception, LOL.). I feared that this could be a one sided affair with Chino fixating and following and Floyd firing ones from the outside all night, and that fear was unfounded. I said I though this would probably be Floyd's toughest post Hatton fight, and I'm very glad I was right on that. Awesome fight, even with everything stacked against Chino.
I had something very similar to you except I thought Floyd's work was much cleaner in the 11th. Maidana began roughing him up in the mid to late part of the round but wasn't doing a lot of clean, effective punching. I gave Floyd 9,10 and 11.
Any fight I'm emotionally invested in (like this one) I re-watch a score on paper with notes. I'm interested in seeing how my next day numbers come out. I'll probably re-watch this fight tonight after GoT, Californiacation, and Continuum.
Great fight though. :boxing:
:lol1:
How can it be a mismatch and cherry pick if you're picking him to lose by KO?
If you see somebody you dislike going to pick a cherry, you can hope that by some fluke the tree falls on their head.
I can think that Mayweather will win on points, but I can hope that Chino will catch him early with something hard, awkward, and overhead early when Mayweather is cold, and some combination of clowning, posing, or accidentally going straight back. Or that an aging Mayweather will slow enough to let some of Chino's awkward power shots though. That's the one virtue of power (and to a lesser extent being awkward because I don't think anything too conventional is likely to serve anybody well vs Mayweather).
These are cool.

Not enough padding though. Floyd's camp demands these:

(And to the Floyd fans, calm down it's a joke. :p )
And on the flipside; if featherfist Bradley was able to hurt Pacquiao (4th round), imagine what a Maidana bomb would do to him?
Let's be fair and say say that feather fisted Bradley wasn't throwing like feather fisted Bradley during Pac Bradley II, or vs Provodnkov. :) But yeah, Maidana does have the power to KO most similar sized guys without a doubt, and that includes Pac.
Bradley would beat Maidana with ease. Floyd will as well.
I think Floyd's 37 year old melon might be a little softer, and that he probably minds getting hit more than Bradley. Of course he has other advantages over Bradley, but that slightly softer melon is pretty relevant if we're talking about Chino. (The only real question for me is if Chino's power in odd punches can sufficiently mess with Floyd's excellent ability to anticipate.) Bradley 's whiskers and skills might serve him better than just massively superior skills.
Floyd will be able to do whatever he desires to him. It is going to be very messy LOL
He should be able to-- I laid my marker on Floyd UD some time ago, despite really liking Chino. (Some of the more moronic Broner talk before that fight is actually what got me to sign up here.) One can certainly hope that Maidana's irregular punches and will can makes things interesting. I think Floyd beats anything he can see or anticipate, but Floyd is less well tested against 'unconventional'. I think Maidana's single worst flaw for this fight is his tendency to fixate and follow, and that Floyd may be able to exploit that all night long to an easy victory. Though I would love to see Chino rock Floyd, and it's more possible than in many of Floyd's recent fights. Post return to boxing anyway.
I suspect it will happen if JMM's age isn't exposed vs Alvarado, and he wants to go on. Even if he wins vs Alvarado I wouldn't be shocked if he took his Pac KO back to Mexico and went full time as an analyst and commentator. Personally I'm just as happy if it doesn't happen, but it really depends on a post Alvarado JMM, and how much pressure he gets to do the fight.
More of a size differential isn't going to help Pac. What Floyd's doing shouldn't be a factor at all, and Manny trying to KO people that look like sasquatches compared to him is hardly going to silence his critics.
No, but Stiverne needs to be more active darn it. A year between fights... He could be a great heavyweight if he was active enough to keep the rust off and make people think of him more.
bradley sort of a gatekeeper type boxer now at 147, just like berto?
Bradley's a gatekeeper to unemployment. If you beat him decisively nobody is going to want much to do with you in the ring unless you're headlining a PPV. :boxing:
Just stop bro. You are the perfect example of hyping up a future opponent of Floyd's. No disrespect to Chino, but he would lose to Tim. And he will be out-classed by Floyd that the difference in skill will be apparent in the first 2 rounds.
In some ways Tim is worse for Chino in that he takes a hell of a shot and minds being hit less, which is something that Floyd has to be at least more mindful of. Which is in no way to imply that Floyd wouldn't beat Tim (pretty much for sure) or Chino (unless he gets caught with a hell of a something he doesn't see coming).
wlad and someone else cleared out the division aka wlad didn't do it
Touché, I suppose. I still wouldn't push him all of the way out of the top 10 though. Err, I just can't do it.
What do u guys think,,,, who's better p4p rigo or wlad
Ignoring Rigo for a sec, Wlad (and his brother) deserve credit for so utterly cleaning out the heavyweight division that nothing grows there anymore. He clearly deserves to be on the p4p list for putting keeping the HW division in that state. With that being said, latter day Wlad should probably be near to the bottom of the top 10 list, IMHO. Rigo has at least earned a spot in the middle of that pack, IMHO.
First, I'm betting on Floyd UD, but I'd love Chino to shock the world.
CHino has heart and Power, but I dont see him hitting harder than Canelo Alvaraz, and if Canelo landed anything significant-Floyd took it well.
Not necessarily harder than Canelo, but lots of power in both hands with an awkward delivery. Floyd saw everything Canelo was going to do... Chino SHOULD be more difficult. Canelo was to Floyd as Rios was to Pacquiao, minus the year's rust after a KO.
He hit Broner flush how many times and couldn't KO him?
Floyd has better defence, chin, and reflexes than Broner.
I wouldn't say that a 37 year old Floyd has a better chin than a young walking sausage like Broner. Floyd's not chinny, but...
The most impressive bit of the Broner fight was Chino's corner instructing him not to jab if it was going to be slow. Broner's no Floyd, but the idea holds. Don't give natural couterpunchers easy fodder. It won't mean much if Chino fixates and follows and never catches Floyd, but it's better than trying to box Floyd behind a jab.
I've said this a bunch of times already, but this is Floyd's most dangerous post Hatton (2007) fight, with the exception of Cotto. Floyd SHOULD win, but IF it goes wrong it could go really wrong for him.
