Boxing goat and I have been having an on going debate about wlad and rigo p4p
Help settle this..
I said wlad deserves p4p ranking, but he has no inside game so I can't put him up there like Floyd rigo ward...
He says it's not about skills but about how your using them right now in the present, and it's about what your doing right now. But then states at Rigo's undressing of donaire doesn't compare to wlad's career resume, contradicting himself by using wlad's whole body of work instead of recent hugfests with sasha.. And donaire is better than any wlad opponent ever, so it's hard to claim that he has the better resume when rigo clearly has the better win
What do u guys think,,,, who's better p4p rigo or wlad
It's called "pound for pound" because you're comparing them their resumes vs guys their own weight, not magical shrink ray fights where Wlad turns 5'5" and for some reason continues to fight like hes 6'7".
Rigo is a very good fighter and I don't think the two are in different universes P4P or anything, I just think you guys should know that isn't what P4P means.
Comparing resumes isn't p4p....
Hopkins has a better resume than ward or rigo,, are u gonna have him high p4p..
Pound for pound is comparing skill levels on a pound for pound ratio...
Much like wlad can lift more weight than an ant, but p4p the ant is a much stronger creature than wlad... That's about as rudimentary as I can put it
Seriously, you think a 6'6" version of Kelly Pavlik would have the same footwork as Wladimir ?
They wouldn't be identical fighters. I was just using him as an example
Wlad at heavy is a big tall jabber with a big right hand..
Pavlik at middle is a big tall jabber with a big right hand...
Wlad plays it safe on the outside pavlik came forward and could infight
You have to imagine skillsets,,, wlad at heavy is a big tall jabber with big power, in a h2h with rigo at the lower weights, he would still be a big tall jabber with big power, just like a Kelly pavlik type fighter... And guys like serg, rigo, Floyd, Hopkins, ward would carve him up..
Seriously, you think a 6'6" version of Kelly Pavlik would have the same footwork as Wladimir ?
Using your magical "shrink ray" where the heavyweight isn't allowed to change his style upon turning into a 119 lbs midget, yep, Darchinyan smashes them. I was satirizing the "shrink ray" logic.
Listen I'm a wealthy stud... I forget to spell this stuff out so teenagers and hoodrats can understand it.
Lmao at your post....
Why do you think it's called "POUND FOR POUND". Why use the words pound in it... Why not "who has best resume" "who has dominated longest".. Why is the word pound in the title,, twice I might add.. Why is that?
Boxing goat? Did Ali say this?
On a serious note, I'd rank Wlad higher but wouldn't mind if someone had Rigo higher.
Here's why:
Wlad has dominated as THE heavyweight champion for almost a decade.
Wlad is the most complete fighter in his division and head and shoulders above everyone else (same can probably be said for Rigo but his only real challenge has been Nonito)
His jab is one of the best in the game and overall skill package is comparable to almost anyone in the sport, yes he lacks a good inside game but he makes up for it with terrific movement for a heavyweight, fast hands and immense power.
Rigo has Wlad beat on all round skill by a hairs breadth, but Wlad has superior power and superior achievement. So Id rank Wlad higher.
Wlad's overall skill package is to jab, occasionally throw a right hand or left hook, and clinch. He fights like Hopkins at his worst against horrible competition. His skills are not even close to comparable with the best in the sport.
Watching Ward or Mayweather or Rigo and then watching Wlad and thinking Wlad in anyway compares to them skill-wise is flat out wrong.
When rigo signs with gbp he will beat everybody and should rank higher than wlad in the ATG ranking based on mainly resume.
It would be sad if rigo won't get a chance to prove his greatness.
why are u replying to that idiot? the guy just said vic darchinyan beats any heavy in history
seriously, the standard here is dropping fast :puke:
Lol...... Ain't that the truth
How would wlad adapt styles to beat rigo... Wouldn't rigo adapt as well then..
What is "adapt" or "adapting". Are you saying that if wlad adapted better skills he could beat rigo... If so, then that proves the point that wlad's skills are p4p better than rigo

Resume and ability are two different things
Yeah, your point being...
Think of p4p as what Vegas oddsmakers do..
If rigo and wlad had a h2h fight, Vegas would have rigo the favorite, why? Because he is the more skilled and better fighter
If the question is
"If you used a shrink ray on Wlad and didn't allow him to make any stylistic changes despite losing 50-60% of his body weight who would win?"
The obvious answer to that ridiculous rigged question is Rigo. He would beat any heavyweight in history under those circumstances. Hell so would Donaire, Darchinyan, etc.
If the question is
"If you made both fighters into middleweights and allowed them to adapt their styles to that weight, based on the P4P track record of each fighter, who do you think would win?
In that case I would say Wlad
**** off, ur retarded

So you are basically comparing a limited guy with average skills to the Olympic gold medalist who now dominates the sport for a decade?
Pavlik was a undefeated lineal champ with only defeats to Hopkins and serg..
Remind me again who is as good as Hopkins and serg that wlad fought...

to be honest......p4p rigo is far better then wlad could ever dream of.
it's like shrinking wlad into a mini version of himself (same height same weight as rigo) and matching them together. do you really think wlad would win? no...........he'd get out witted, picked apart, & demolished.
wtf..............

Check my edit to that post where I added a little bit to the bottom - IMO that's probably the only way to do it for people to not complain or struggle to make cases for modern heavies.
Yeah, that's a good idea...
