Froch has had some tough fights and has been around a while now, but one thing that must not be underestimated, is that Froch hasn't had that many fights. And he never stepped up in class quite late. So Froch has a few fights left in him.
I think it will take someone a bit better than Groves to end Frochs run as British best. Groves will look nice early in the fight when his youth and speed will tell. But as haye said, when he gets tired later on he will get caught more and Froch will take over.
Late stoppage again, or Froch on points.
That's a reasonable prediction, I agree that Froch is not by any means 'shot' or 'worn out' yet. I think Froch will be at his absolute best tonight, so will Groves. I just think Groves has the advantages in speed, footwork and timing, I can't see how Froch outboxes him. If George keeps his head screwed on, conserves energy and sees out Froch's late comeback by boxing, moving and tieing up, I can see Groves winning a decision.
However, if George gets drawn into a brawl like last time, I worry that he'll get worn down and lose again by a late stoppage
I believe Groves can win but he has to fight a lot smarter than he did last time.
Froch feasts on mistakes. Froch also feasts on the tired so hopefully Groves preparations in this fight have him in top notch shape.
Groves has the skill, Froch has the will.
Yeah George needs to make sure he has something in the tank going into rounds 9,10,11,12 - last time he was spent and would have gotten stopped anyways. One thing though, George for the first time has been working with a proper strength and conditioning coach throughout the whole camp, that could really help his fitness. He's come in light, meaning he's probably trained for speed and fitness, as opposed to strength and power which is the right idea imo, he's not gonna beat Froch with strength and power, it's gotta be speed and movement
When guys like Johnson, Froch etc come around and face all comers and the toughest fights, you can't be a fan of the sport if you don't like their actions and what they stand for
Full respect to Glen Johnson
Great post and avatar mate
Just seemed like you skipped over that part when building up the Jones Johnson KO... Meh its a pointless point.. Love for Glencoff.
Ahh my bad, it wasn't meant to come across like that. Great video though thanks for posting
"Im not the best. Im just willing to fight the best." - Glen Johnson.
That tells you all you need to know about the man. They dont make many like him. Willing to fight anyone, gives them hell every time out, and humble as anyone in the sport.
What a great quote
amen!
One of the best pressure guys around. If he had gotten all the decisions he deserved to win he may have been considered a lot better.
In which fights do you think Glen got robbed? I thought he beat Clinton Woods at least twice, got robbed against Gonzalez and Chad Dawson as well
I respect Jphnson, he's a tough guy and most fans see through his bogus Ls. This is a man Calzaghe blatantly ducked on 3 occasions. In fact, he signed to fight him and thousands of tics were sold but Calzaghe chose to cancel twice, Johnson wasn't willing to train for a 3rd time unless Team Calzaghe covered his training costs to cover the risk of cancelling again. Calzaghe said no and Glen said p.ssy.
Frank Warren paid Glen Johnson £100k and Calzaghe still pulled out of the fight! Frank paid Glen 100k for nothing and fight that never happened.
You can never accuse Glen Johnson of ducking anybody, honestly George Groves is my favourite fighter but it pained me to watch him beat up a 43 year old completely shot Glen Johnson. A prime Glen would have bullied George
Sounds like a plan......................whose gonna teach him how to box??? Ray.
He's going to need all the help he can get! Will be fun to watch Chavez against guys the same size as him
Would be a great fight for Ward, good money, made to order opponent, the only question is whether the reward is great enough for him to take the risk of leaving Oakland
This looks like a great concept, I'd love this game to come out and I'll look at kicking in £20, but unfortunately boxing just doesn't have the fanbase. I wish you guys all the best, but you're going to be hard pressed to find £300 grand, without a significant investor like EA Sports or Sports Interactive
Not interested in this rematch at all.
I want to see Bika-Groves or Bika-Degale.
Groves would bust Bika up and win a clear decision
Bika - Degale would be a hard fight, Bika has a terrible style for DeGale
Yes, I noticed that.
He was very different from the ref in the Ward-Bika fight, who was very protective of Ward, while allowing his home fighter the "Son of Goat" to foul at will.
It's frustrating watching protected fighters get every advantage in their favour. I hated Sven Ottke back in the day
Why don't these loudmouth idiots Hunter and Andre 'Son of Sven Ottke' Ward stop mouthing off to the press, and do their talking in the ring? I cant' stand idiots like these two who go out of their way to disrespect other fighters behind a microphone, have a bit of dignity and class. Ward has done nothing of note since the Froch fight, and beating up a drained LHW means nothing
Bika is a beast and one of the most underrated fighter right now. However I don't want to see a rematch. Ward won last time and I think he would win even more clearly. However I would love to see Bika vs Froch/Kessler/Bute. I think he could beat Bute this time
It depends where the fight is held, outside of Oakland I'd have it a 50/50 fight. Unfortunately, Ward (like Sven Ottke back in the day) is clearly protected and given every advantage in Oakland, therefore Bika would have to win by KO
Bika made a fan out of me when he fought Calzaghe. Dude is a beast; I see him giving anybody from 168-175 problems. I'd definitely be into the rematch
I remember Calzaghe v Bika, that fight was closer than the scorecards suggested
Both are very dirty fighters.
The shady California referee permitted Ward to foul as much as he wanted, but was quick to admonish Bika.
I thought Ward won, but the fight was closer than the scorecards indicated (I had it 115-113 Ward).
And without the ref helping Ward, Bika might have done well enough to deserve to win.
Great post, Ward is clearly protected in Oakland, which suits his style perfectly (allowing him to maul and cheat). Bika is game though, outside of Oakland I could see this fight going either way, the only problem is HBO have invested too much in Ward to see him lose a decision without them looking to profit from it, and Bika isn't profitable
He is an ATG no doubt about it .
Couldn't agree more, what a special fighter. Him and Roy Jones are kind of linked with each other, in that Roy was so freakishly talented, Bernard was a hard worker who got better with age, they're kind of polar opposites but important to each other's legacies
Another great example is George Foreman beating Michael Moorer
Mohammad Ali beating Leon Spinks
Herol Graham beating Chris Johnson
Any more good examples?
Simba ? ..
Not quite Simba! I was thinking more along the lines of Adrien Broner, Austin Trout, young up and coming fighters hungry to make a name for themselves
Hopkins is considered a defensive wizard, but when they fought in their primes Jones was able to hit him easily. Bernard didn't want any more of that, if they rematched in 2001 Roy would have stopped him
