Rees has trained under the Calzaghe banner in the past, he brings a similar sort of frentic Calzaghe-esque style. His only defeat is to Kotelnik - the man who gave Alexander and Khan tough fights - and who also beat Maidana.
Rees is a tough fighter, he'd have a good shot at beating anyone on Broner's record. By extension, he might actually turn out to be one of the toughest opponents Broner has yet faced as a pro. But he could get wiped out quick too. Broner seems a league above on the surface but could it be an illusion like Lacy's hype at the time he fought Calzaghe?
Could the fight turn out to be an even scrap or will it turn out to be a complete mismatch?
Why is everyone acting so stupid when it coes to this fight? How many threads do we need reminding us what EVERYONE knows Rees is overmatched. Its a stay busy. The hell is wrong with people.
Be careful pal, its still a fight, and if Rees lands ill haunt you hahahhaahaha
That's crazy....I remember I had a poker game at my house and 10 other guys all put money on Lacy, I cleaned up that night.
ok well i'm talking official money line odds from vegas etc..yeah there's anecdotal evidence that a lot of people wanted lacy to win but the actual odds were even.
A Rees win is possible but highly unlikely. I would call it a mismatch but I don't blame Broner for taking the fight. Some of the other top lightweights already had fights and Rees is in the top ten. The lightweights are sort of weak right now and Broner stands out as the best. April and Bogere would give Broner some competition but they are fighting each other and the same goes for Burns and Vazquez.
the actual odds were almost dead even. when money was on the line people didn't trust lacy or calzaghe since both were unproven.

Must of been why he was a MASSIVE favorite to not only win but win by KO right? Here is a link to the BoxingScene staff predictions thread for that fight. Nearly everyone picked Lacy to destroy Calzaghe before the fight.

The fight is a mismatch but with the right gameplan and Broner underestimating Rees and having an off-night, who knows?
Broner is overrated. He is a little version of Berto. Good upperbody movement, good combinations, hes quite explosive inside but his footwork is absolutely sh1t. It is not me hating, I am just telling it how it is.
Watch his fights, the man has two punches. Left hook, right uppercut. Just like Berto. Another top heavy American HBO hypejob.
If that is a top p4p fighter and the future of boxing, I need to find a new sport.
I agree Broner does have flaws but he's definitely better than Berto.
He atleast has a style and some form of defense, and some form of skill.
Berto has nothing but speed and power.
I think Broner will have a lot of trouble against a pressure fighter. Matthysee would give him all kinds of trouble IMO.

Slapsie vs. Jeff "LOL" Lacy was only an "upset" in the bizarro world that is NSB.
Anyone with half an ounce of sense could see that Lacy was a slow, wild swinger and an accident waiting to happen.

You never look past your current opponent, Rees has nothing to lose because nearly nobody expects him to win so the pressure is on Broner to knock him out. If it goes to a decision then it will hurt Broner hard even if he wins every round.
Rees would be the first man to admit he's no Joe Calzaghe.....they are both Welsh fighting men, but the similarities end right there.
I am expecting Gav to give Broner more of a fight than most people seem to believe he's capable off.
Rees is short, built like a brick ****house, has fast and reasonably heavy hands and will come into the fight with the right attitude and in-shape. He's quit drinking and taking his diet seriously.
So I am expecting Broner to cop a few proper shots and have to dig a bit deeper than before to get this win.
Rees will go out on his shield but not before Broner learns that any fight against a Welshman is a hard fight.
Tommy Farr v Joe Louis rather than Calzaghe v Lacy methinks.
