Looking back at the old legends record, he beat Trinidad, Glen Johnson, Vanderpool, Echols, Pavlik, Pascal, now he's up against it again when he faces Tavoris Cloud. Good luck Bernard!
The point of the thread is to ask, which fighter late in their careers holds wins over young champions in the way Hopkins does? Ones that come to mind are Tommy Hearns beating Virgil Hill, Sugar Ray Robinson's regained the title by beating the likes of Fullmer and Basilio, Roberto Duran against Iran Barkley and Davey Moore
Has anyone got anymore examples to share?
He is an ATG no doubt about it .
Couldn't agree more, what a special fighter. Him and Roy Jones are kind of linked with each other, in that Roy was so freakishly talented, Bernard was a hard worker who got better with age, they're kind of polar opposites but important to each other's legacies
No one will remember him, unless a triva question pops up about fighters who boxed at an advanced age. This guy is the cherry picker plus and this kid he's fighting is a very carefully picked opponent. He's not legendary in the real boxing world he is famous with the younger generation whose impressed by undefeated cheery picking records and a guy who's as old as their fathers but could kick their daddys azz!!
I believe you'll see a guy just follow him around the ring and get slightly outscored and Bernard will leave unscaved!!! Go home Bernard time is up!

I hope the bold was sarcastic...... otherwise the post makes absolutely no sense.

Hopkins wanting Cleverly next
That would be something if he unifies at 48. lol
He's busting up all of Ward's potential opponents when he moves up to 75.

Hopkins is an absolute legend. Watch, in 20 years people are gonna talk about him over Floyd & Pacman in form of greatness.
He is an ATG no doubt about it .
Another great example is George Foreman beating Michael Moorer
Mohammad Ali beating Leon Spinks
Herol Graham beating Chris Johnson
Any more good examples?
how rubbish must Clev feel for chasing a 48 year old fighter? Bhop will probs be 50 by the time that jackass gets in the ring with him, and Clev will be so proud of being a young man beating up a great granddad by then.
Pascal has more explosive power than Cloud but that doesn't mean Cloud doesn't have heavy hands. They key for Cloud is obviously letting his hands go and landing.
Listen, if Hopkins has anything left he'll school Cloud bad but 48 is 48, its hard to ignore that number and maybe being a big Hopkins fan that always gets nervous before his fights I'm worrying to much but he's old man, really old for boxing.
Hopkins isn't your average 48 year old man, as you know.
Hopkins has proved time and time again, even in his mid-late 40's, he's not losing to someone as limited as Cloud.
The only way he loses the fight is if he's finally gotten old. As in, too old for Boxing.
I think that does a disservice to the tensile strength of glass~ plate glass is certainly tougher maybe that thin glass they make Christmas ornaments from.
Yusuf Mack's chin is made from the same glass they had in the windows they used to use in WWF when the guy would throw them through it.
Yusuf Mack's chin is literally made from glass.

I agree with everything you said....but B.Hop himself mentioned Cleverly, suprised me with that...I'll try to find the link right now
The only reason I can imagine is because he has one of the belts (Some how)
That's the reason I can see for Hopkins wanting or taking that fight.
I don't want to see it because I can see Cleverly throwing and missing and "Outworking" him to a controversial decision.
Cleverly wants to catch him when he's finally lost it and get his name on his record.
After Hopkins beats Cloud I hope he retires.
I doubt he fights Cleverly. Why would he?
Cleverly has done literally nothing in his career and needs to step up a few levels.
That said, I'd expect Cleverly to pose more problems for Hopkins than Cloud.

after Cloud he's been mentioning Cleverly as a next possible opponent...it's crazy how he be taming those young lions...sick :lol1:

"young, hungry lion" hahah hate that phrase to Bojangles.
everyone here always copy the phrases that Mayweather says "young, hungry lion; take the test; watch the fight on mute; who he fought; " lmao bunch of followers
Cloud is powerful and I would certainly call him heavy handed. He doesn't have true one punch KO power but his hanss clearly hurt people. How often have we seen iron faced Glen Johnson rocked and on jelo legs? Not often. And although he should have lost to Campillo he hurt him a couple times and floored him. That doesn't look as impressive now after Campillo's last fight of course but at the time it showed his power.
At 48 years old and being hurt by Pascal and Dawson, I'd say Cloud's power is certainly a danger to Hopkins at this point of his career.
Pascal hits harder than Cloud.
Cloud can punch and has some power obviously but like you said he's not stopping Hopkins with one punch I doubt he even hurts Hopkins at any point, he's way too slow.
And there's no way he lands on a consistent basis to give Hopkins any danger.

Has any old master ever beat as many young, hungry lions as Hopkins has? | BoxingScene Community
