....Abdullaev could not see anything out of his eye. That was the most legitimate quit I have seen. Tyson should be in his own league for quitting more than once. He quit when he bit Evander, he tried to quit when Botha was beating him(see attempt to break Botha's arm many times), He quit mentaly when Lewis whipped his ass, He quit against Williams, and he certainly quit when that big goofy dork whipped his sorry ass. Tyson is the most heartless of the bunch by far. The others shouldn't be judged by one quit. Have you ever put your sorry Cali ass in the ring before? I suspect you would be a curl up in a ball type of dude anyway. Probably a silk shirt wearing half a cali fag. WTF do you know about anything???
Harsh words from someone with 2 transvestites in his/her avatar....
& once again the repetitive old "have you ever fought before" angle, well yes I have, and yes I won, and I won because I DIDN'T QUIT, the fact that you not only condone quitting, but make light of it & respect it, shows a lot about your own character....so what if Abdullaev's eye was swollen??? You must have missed Gatti-Rodriguez, I hate Gatti, he showed a championship heart, & I have mad respect for guys who don't quit, it's sad that you don't have the same outlook but it's your life and your opinion, quit as much as you want in life, it won't affect mine
I'm a big Tapia fan, but his "win" over Medina was ridiculous....
Byrd-Oquendo was pretty bad....
Holyfield-Lewis 1 was was really Lewis vs. Eugenia WIlliams
I'd say Oscar-Mosley 2, not for it being a bad decision, but for it being the PERFECT decision with an insane amount of pointless controversy & argumentation for a fight that Mosley clearly won
an in shape motivated rahman will be a monster.... i cant wait for this fight
rahman is undisputed by the end of next year
Undisputed would be sweet... but DK won't allow his champs to unify until he has all 4 major belts.....If the Rock takes the WBC strap then beats Vitali, then Don will begin his own tournament and The Rock will become king of the world once again....here's my "wishful thinking" tourney:
Ruiz-Brewster in December
Rahman-Byrd in early '06
Undisputed Championship in Spring '06
I was under the impression you liked Duran and Chavez, both quit during a fight, LIVE, maybe quiting wouldnt be acceptable, if people didnt make excuses, or give certain fighters a pass. Either way, both are still great fighters? No big deal?
yeah I have liked both guys, i still do, each quit once in a big event and it was a shame to see.... both were also isolated incidents vs. the very best opponent in the division at that time, the guys I mentioned, aside from maybe Fretias and Tszyu, have a history of quitting....
you make a good point about the excuse factor, I definitely have more sympathy when the guy just says that he wasn't good enough and couldn't deal with the pain and that he wasn't the best man in the ring, injuries and excuses are really what irritates me, I played 3 quarters of football in high school with a broken collarbone, & didn't make a single dime for it, which is why I rarely sympathize with million-dollar quitters.....good points my friend
140 is the deepest, but 154-160 has the most compelling potential matchups, with Winky, Vargas, Mayorga, possibly Oscar, and of course the winner of B-Hop & Taylor
Tyson is still the man, not the champion but the man. If I were any of these heavyweights I would be scared of Tyson.
Good call, he's not the champ but he's still the attraction....who's the lady in your avatar? She's got me thinkin' bad thoughts :)
Mike Tyson's career has spanned over 20 years and over 50 exciting fights. In his early years, Mike was fighting quite frequently, knocking out guys left and right, and barely taking substantial punches. This all changed after he lost for the first time to Buster Douglas. After that, Tyson fought less frequent and took considerable beatings from Holyfield, lewis, and Williams.
So, my question is; how many more fights does Mike have left in him before it starts to have a negative impact on his health ? IMO Tyson has always been outspoken and itelligiable(not always) when he speaks. I would hate to see Mike suffer from any brain injuries due to the beatings he sometimes takes in the ring.
I would like to see Mike fight maybe 5-6 more times at the most and then hopefully retire debt free and with one of the alphabet titles. How many fights do you guys think Tyson has in him, depending on the level of opposition he faces ?
Tyson will continue to fight professionally until he's 6 feet under, he couldn't flip burgers if his life depended on it, this is all he knows how to do....
He will never be debt-free, his lavish spending habits won't allow it, remember that this guy went to school until about the age of 9 and has a degree from SHK, the School of Hard Knocks....
His health has been suffering for a while now, sanity does not provoke biting, screaming, crying, and/or rage....
all that being said, I believe Mike will destroy McBride, fight for a belt next year, lose big, take 9 months off, then do it all over again
GO MIKE!
Hopefully Tyson signs a contract with a Network like Showtime to fight like 3 fights before he fights one of the title holders on Pay-per-view.
he's had a Showtime contract since '95.....once again Mckay, a day late & a dollar short.....did you hear that the twin towers got bombed???
Hello folks. The name's BABABOOEY. 31 years old from NYC. Big tyme boxing fan. Is this the best boxing forum to be on? BABABOOEY's had trouble finding a true forum home.
welcome to the krew Baba....you gonna be at the Garden on Saturday? If so have fun, I look forward to agreeing with you & shredding you to pieces at the same time :) Welcome!
so many to name I could give a whole book report on it. I shall give some of the ones that stick out on the top of my mind.
1. James "Buster Douglass vs mike Tyson. Buster was beating his ass up till the knockout and Tyson was winning on every scorecard. (Note don't fight in Japan either they are swayed by the masses)
2. Mayweather vs Castillo Part 1 - Everyt ime Mayweather doesnt look good he says we didnt know but his rotator cuff was destroyed or his back was mutilated and he couldnt move or he was fighting with two bad eyes or he was blind or some other excuse. On that night Castillo was the better man.
3. Oscar De la Hoya and Felix Sturm. Comon all we have to admit oscar got his ass kicked.
4. Oscar vs Ike Quartey. in my eyes Quartey won you know? Although it was close but I still had quartey with the nod
5. Paulie Ayala vs tapia. I cant remember which on.
6. Erik Morales vs Barrerra part 1 I had Barerra with the nod
7. Paqiuo vs marquez. While it was amazing that marquez got back into the fight I still had him losing.
8.Castillo Vs. Cassamayor. Casstillo lost he was aoutboxed by the slicker southpaw but alas he got the nod.
9. Fernando Vargas vs Winky Wright Again the politics of boxing were at hand. Winky clearly outboxed Fernando yet fernando was given the nod.
10. Meldrick Taylor and JC chavez part 1. Richard stelle was involved (Nuff said) nod went to Julio with mere seconds left in a fight that Taylor would have won.
I agree with 9 outta 10, Floyd won rounds 1-4 very easily vs. Castillo, NOBODY loses a decision after sweeping the 1st 4 rounds (ask Sugar Ray Leonard)
You mean Tyson should have gone out in the next round, let McBride hit him in the side and then pretend he couldn't get back up?
"Oooh me liver... honest."
Oscar wasn't the 1st fighter that B-Hop has KO'd, Bernard had every physical advantage possible....
and ask Quartey and Vargas about how much of a quitter Oscar is, they may feel differently than you
"The Baby Faced Assassin"
Barrera has the coolest nickname ever IMO.
yeah, too bad he stole it from Johnny Tapia....
my votes are for....
Quitali Quitschko
Johnny Louise
Joey Calzone
El Horrible Morales
Aluminum Mike Tyson
do you really think they care about your respect, I mean come one who the hell are you any way, lol STFU
our respect is THE ONLY THING that matters, because we're the ones who pay $50 on TV and $500 for ringside tix to see the fights (or am I the only one???)....
basically the new breed of fighter, in general, wnats to have their cake & eat it too, they want the $$$ and glory but aren't willing to pay a big price to get it.....Ali, Holmes, Frazier, Hearns, Leonard, all of those guys have visible physical damage, and obvious speech impediments, from their boxing careers, but guess what? That's the price you pay to become a LEGEND. You can't get there by repeatedly quitting and letting the fans down who pay big $$$ to watch fights....once again, just one man's opinion, everyone feel free to passionately disagree and voice your opinions on how quitting is perfectly OK
Tyson will beat McBride...
Beat another bum....
get a title shot....
get his ass kicked.....
take 9 months off.....
then repeat the process all over again
Floyd ran in the first fight and LOST, period, regardless of what the judges said. Hopkins was not boxing the first 5 rounds vs Eastman, he was running, like a bitch. And yes, this is relevant because you said they are warriors.
Trash-talk all you want, I will use logic. Become a boxer then talk. I'm not going above and beyond to justify anything. Pretty simple logic really.
Anywho...
you're basing your opinion on 1 fight for each guy.... Hopkins implemented the same style vs. Tito, look what happened there....Hopkins nearly got KO'd by Echols in their 1st fight, and B-Hop came back & won.....Hopkins also beat Glen Johnson for every minute of every round, not an easy task at any weight on any date
Floyd beat a tough Carlos Hernandez with basically 1 hand, destroyed Chico and J. Chavez with relative ease, ate everything Emmanuel Burton had to offer and won by TKO...
as for "become a boxer then talk" why are you talking? Who are you? You sure ain't a boxer if you're wasting your time talking with little-old-me....and if you are a boxer, then your opponent has already won your upcoming bout, becuase he's out running right now while you're typing
And in doing so DK made the Rahman vs. Barrett PPV even weaker than it was to begin with. What is he going to do with Byrd vs. Lyakhovich? No one is going to show that crap except for BDSSP or FNF.
Yeah Byrd v Lyachko-whatever is a lousy fight, Byrd has been going backwards ever since he beat Evander, it looks like DKP is putting together a Showtime card for Sept. 3 with Zab v TBA and the lousy Byrd fight, that card will definitely help my insomnia....
All I know is Gatti has a punchers chance of winning...
well so did Tua! And look what happened there! One-punch fighters will lose to guys with multi-dimensional talent 99% of the time
it happened during sparring before the fight, tua is a humble guy and never makes any excuses, of course he probably still would have lost, but he would of given a better account of himself if he had of been 100%.
well that's your side of the story, either way, if his belly wasn't such a big target he wouldn't have gotten hit there :) and yes I think that it wouldn't have mattered anyhow, Lewis was too tall, too smart, too strong, too defensive, and Tua was disenchanted after only 3 rounds
Let's see, 2 competitive fights on HBO coming from MSG....
or a PPV freak show featuring 2 faded former champs + a woman who fights bums....
I'll save my $$$ and watch Cotto & Kid Diamond
do South paws carry a bigger punch then conventional fighters? I have learnd that leftys are stronger is there any truth to this.?
The punch that hurts is the one you don't see....
southpaws throw punches from a different angle....
so in that sense, southpaws punch harder
I think this fight should be a fair bit different. Lewis was defensive, and used his jab, but he was also a really heavy hitter. Mayweather is defensive, but not really a heavy hitter. Gatti boxes quite a bit differently than Tua.
I know it, of course their styles are different, I was just thinking that the overall pace and outcome would be similar
Tua had broken ribs going into the Lewis fight, i'm not saying he would of won if he didn't, but he may have put on a better performance.
his ribs weren't broken before the fight, a double left hook in round 3 is what broke Tua's ribs, Tua winced, then Lewis clocked him with a huge overhand right, and from that point on the fight was not competitive (I watched it again this morning, it was a brutal left to the body that did it)....so what will Gatti's excuse be? Broken cheekbones? Hands? Ribs?
some people like Power fighters some like speed, I like Skills. I have always been a fan of fighters that have skill, and great chins. This is Toney, i really beleive his skill will get him past VK. I also like his shit talking. and the fact that no one can deny him, you can talk about his size all you want, but at the end of the day he is still a 4 time champ, in 4 different weight classes. I don't think he has anything else to prove. VK needs to prove himself not Toney.
dynamite post, Vitali is the one with something to prove, James always backs up his trash talk
Jirov is the most over-rated fighter of this generation
his biggest victory was over.....Arthur Williams....yes, THE Arthur Williams
great amateur, good pro, but was never top 20 p4p and never won a significant fight
Best flurry iv ever seen has to be de la hoya's finishing flurry in the 11'th vs vargas that was awsome. a close second would be his his flurry against quarty in the final round
The flurry vs. Vargas was awesome, forgot about that one, like Lamps said he made "Vargas eat his words"...
the flurry vs. Quartey looked like round 15 in Rocky 1
