Jirov is/was obviously a great fighter!!!

I'm praying that the fight does happen. Wlad has never had any trouble at all with soft hitters like Toney. He's never faced anyone with Toney's skill, either. Doesn't take a big punch to dent a weak psyche, either.

Jirov did better against Toney than did Ruiz.....doesn't make Jirov great, however.

Jirov is the most over-rated fighter of this generation his biggest victory was over.....Arthur Williams....yes, THE Arthur Williams great amateur, good pro, but was never top 20 p4p and never won a significant fight My point was that Ruiz who is a legitamite heavyweight who beat some big names looked like an amateur against Toney from round 1 till the final bell! Whereas Jirov gave Toney hell throughout their whole fight! The most over-rated of our generation? Let's not get dramatic! IMO Jirov is one the top Cruiserweights of our generation!

Lets be careful throwing the word GREAT around, especially with Vassily Jirov. I love Jirov and there may not be a better guy to watch in the sport right now but GREAT...that is definately an overstatement. As for Jirov climbing the heavyweight ranks...sorry Jirov homers quit mistaking the fact that he is incredibly fun too watch with his actual talent level...people have been doing this with Gatti and now to a small extent with Vassily. The guy gets hit with everything and in the heavyweight division that is just not going to cut it...it will make for some great fights but it won't help Jirov's career any. Like many of you have already stated he needs to fight Mormeck, Braithwaite, Cunningham, Bell, DAvis etc. Before his jump to crusier he in my mind would have beaten all of these guys but since his jump he has taken some tremendous beatings, he is not the same guy he was a couple years ago and with that said I can see a couple of these guys beating him.

If James Toney ever fights with Vitali or Wladimir, James Toney will be knocked out, and it will shock all of his fans. James Toney will get knocked out just like Roy Jones knock out, very scary. James Toney will never want to fight Vitali or Wladimir. He knows there is great chance he will get knocked out, and he does not want to be remembered that way. Also, James Toney will never fight Mike Tyson, despite the intrigue. James Toney knows he cannot take a true heavyweight punch. This is why he is ready to fight Chris Byrd only. So, I am hoping James Toney will let Jirov fight him. so you're saying Ruiz lacked a true heavyweight punch? You probably picked ruiz to win too huh? I was at the fight Toney has a chin and rarely gets hit fluch on top of that.

After seeing Jirov and Toney slug it out, I thought Jirov was a great fighter. But after Joe Mesi beat him, even though he retired Mesi in the process, I would have to say he is just good. He would be a decent gatekeeper for the heavyweight division. I agree with you! Jirov was a great Cruiserweight! At heavy, his style is all wrong for his size. His fight with Mesi it appeared as though he waited until late in the fight to turn it on. Of course I don't take anything away from Mesi since he had something to do with it, but Jirov proved to be the more durable in that fight!

I'd make Vitali a favorite over James Toney....but not Wlad. Wlad will be mentally beaten by Toney, by the end of the first round. Wlad will miss Toney with his shots, eat a counter.....& nightmares of what Toney said he'd do to him, along with memories of Brewster & Sanders, will cause poor Wlad to crumble. Jirov used to be a great boxer/brawler. Now he's just a sad and pathetic brawler. He had the ability but let it all slip away. Still, I'd love to see him fight Glen Johnson and Tarver. He's better at Cruiserweight anyway.

After seeing Toney in action last night again I have to say that he is possibly one of the slickest fighers to come around in a long time! He is extremely elusive and his counter-punching is like a mechanical piston right on the money from whatever angle he happens to be on. Top that off with a granite chin and you have a great fighter. saying that, I have to say that Jirov was obviously a greater fighter than some gave him credit for. He and Toney evenly went to war at close range with very similar punch stats when it was all over. If it hadn't been for the knockdown in last round, the decision could have gone to Jirov just due to his constant pressure thoughout the fight! Very impressed with Toney! The answer to how he can do against the bigger stronger heavyweight (Vitali) is getting interesting! I still think he is too small for Klitschko, but he will give him hell for a while at least! Too bad Vitali didn't think he was winning the Byrd fight. LOL, Vitali also said the cut was caused by headbutt during the Lewis fight. Vitali says a lot of dumb things. Just watch any of his post fight interviews. They are all hilarious.

He'll beat Klitschko, as for you point about Jirov, the only reason why it was so close, was because Jirov was reckless. I do not think that Jirov's recklessness had anything to do with it! John Ruiz decided to be a little more reckless than usual and what did it get him? And Ruiz is a legitamite heavy as far as size and strength is concerned. Being reckless against James Toney is not the way to go! Jirov was able to get away with it due his heart, relentless pressure and body punching skills. If it hadn't been for the knockdown in round 12, I had Jirov winning! Klitschko I cannot see losing to Toney! Especially Vitali! Vitali has proven his chin by taking shots from Lewis and Sanders who is an extremely dangerous puncher. Toney is not nearly as powerful as Lewis or most heavy's for that matter so it would take a long night of accumulation to start getting to Vitali Klitschko and by that time I just cannot see Toney taking his power shots! I will admit that the fight will be entertaining and very interesting, but over time Toney will start to feel the power of a 6'7" Vitali! Don't forget, Vitali is no slouch, he has been fighting for a very long time and is an extremely accurate puncher. Even the very elusive Chris Byrd was unable to avoid Vitali's offense until Vitali couldn't fight anymore due to his shoulder! Let's not have any illusions about the Byrd fight like Roy Jones was having last night. Vitali retired due to injury, whether you like it or agree with it is completely irrelivant!! Vitali was winning the fight and would have won the fight! I don't think Vitali would have trouble finding Toney as Ruiz did, they are on completely different skill levels.

mormeck vs. jirov would be a great fight to see they both throw alot of punches and have a good work rate hopefully it can happen sometime soon it would be a good match up for the cruiserweight div.

I hope Jirov's next fight is televised, we will se if he can rise in heavyweight rankings he is pretty low right now, but I think he will claw his way back into the top 10 at some point. That sucked that his last fight was not televised in favor of Andre Ward. He is fighting 14th May against Troy Beets 12-5-1 at Coushatta Casino Resort in Los Angelos, California. Hopefully some network puts it on TV this time.
