I remember making a similar one a year back under the heading "I know why boxing is declining and here's why", looks like this one got a bit more of a heated debate going though. Kayjay, you've taken the words out of my mouth, anything below middleweight for me isn't worth watching unless it's a DLH or pacquiao fight. There's just no point. There's a reason why most people are turning to MMA and it's because no one wants to watch "children" fight when they can just put a pair of pillow gloves on their lil cousins/bros and watch em go at it, same thing you know. Fighters are supposed to be the epitome of badassness in the general publics view. The stereotypical view is that they're big,mean n lean mother****ers, who can rip your heart out. Which is why it's hard to take a 130+ lb boxer seriously, no matter how much heart/skill they have. MMA fighters and heavyweight boxers, on the other hand fit this stereotypical mold. The only reason the lower weight divisions shone in the past were because of guys like hagler/duran who didn't weigh much, but still brought a intimidating presence a la prime tyson, to the ring. Not saying I'm an MMA fan, I still like boxing, but come on people be honest...if you came across 5'5 naseem hamed in real life, would you really be intimidated??? I doubt any guy over 200 lbs would.

if you're fighting a skinny guy on the street, you could most definitely crack a rib if you have a powerful punch, unless they have a strong core. Same thing with a fat guy, u can hurt em, but they have fat to cushion the blow as well, which doesn't do a whole lot but still helps protect against a body shot. You wouldn't be able to hurt a bodybuilder in the body though.

thats got to be the lamest thing i've read in a while. first off, every HW or publically known boxer has met up with some tough guy in the streets or in jail who wanted a shot at them and made their intentions clear, thats what happens when people know that you're a fighter, they want to fight you, the common person would never even think about it. guys in prison wanted to fight tyson all the time, even out of prison when he goes out on the town, plus there are a lot tougher guys in the world other than those who fight professionally. secondly, boxing is marred with corruption, all the way from fixed fights to shady promoters to shady judges to shady sanctioning bodies and greedy fighters who won't make the best fights because they hide behind money and/or location. not to mention it seems now every fight is a PPV, soon Wednesday and Friday night fights on ESPN will be PPV, i'm just saying but it wouldn't surprise me if they tried some bullshit like that. plus anyone in there right mind wouldn't fear a professional fighter, they touch anyone in any other way other than a pat on the back or a handshake, they'd get sued. pertaining to violence. now a days they would get either sued or shot....................... boxing isnt declining because no one fears HW's or any fighter for that matter, it's declining because it's being whored out by too many crooks and greedy people....................... This is something that UFC has been able to do successfully and boxing hasn't. The biggest stars in MMA are all south of heavyweight, except for Randy Couture, who just moved up. The one valid point you made is that the heavyweight division is a major major key to success in boxing, and yes it does need to get cleaned up. Title unification and getting the top guys with the belts to fight each other is necessary. There have been phases like this before in the heavyweight division, and the division is still reeling from the uncertainty that was left when Lewis chose to retire as the undisiputed heavyweight champion. shane mosely would have to grow a couple more inches taller so he can even land those hooks to begin with..haha Ronnies huge ass muscles would absorb each and everyone of those punches, he wouldn't even blink. A welterweight fighter in the ufc is twice the size of a welt. boxer, which is why they're so easy to market. When people see MMArtists they think to themselves "damn I wish I was that big then I could kick anyones ass"; and when they see a lowerweight boxer they'll be like "shit that guy looks malnourished, I'd hate to be in his shoes, he probably couldn't even bench a plate". Anyone who bites, eye gouges, kicks in the groin, or any other type of shit, is a straight up pussy. You can say what you want about it being no rules in a street fight, but unless your literally fighting for your life, there's no reason to be doing anything like that. Let's face it most street fights stem from ego, so If it's strictly 1 on 1 in a "controlled setting" (not talking about a boxing ring, or mma cage) where the 2 guys have agreed there's not gonna be any outside interference from their crews, you should be fighting like men, not like bitches scratching, or going for another guys balls, which you lose all respect IMO the moment you do that.
