In your opinion how much does boxing technique help in street fights, especially going up against a taller, heavier opponent. I realize since obviously there are no gloves in a street fight that it is a different ball game and harder to protect yourself. Also I would like to hear stories of fights (what punches thrown, how did non-boxer opponent react, outcome etc) from anyone who trains for boxing.
Anyone who bites, eye gouges, kicks in the groin, or any other type of shit, is a straight up pussy. You can say what you want about it being no rules in a street fight, but unless your literally fighting for your life, there's no reason to be doing anything like that. Let's face it most street fights stem from ego, so If it's strictly 1 on 1 in a "controlled setting" (not talking about a boxing ring, or mma cage) where the 2 guys have agreed there's not gonna be any outside interference from their crews, you should be fighting like men, not like bitches scratching, or going for another guys balls, which you lose all respect IMO the moment you do that.
I don't know how u guys fight in the street, but we don't box. I've seen people bite, spit, throw sand in the face, etc. Boxing is boxing. A fight is a fight. I will do just about anything to win. You can try dat boxing shit but when somebody bites you like a dog and punches you in your throat or knee you we'll see how much it helps.
Vouche for truth.

i could'nt agree anymore
The chances of breaking your hands in a street fight are pretty high.
If it goes to the ground, like it usually does, it pays to be knowledgeable and in good condition in that situation. :boxing:
the fact that you're faster, more instinctive, more composed, and in much better shape, and less likely to fatigue from straight up nervousness makes you more than a match for 90% of the trash out there.
i agree with this...
Boxing helps like any martial art would help, but you need to be multi dimensional if your in a street fight with someone who has some fighting ability. Unless you get a lucky punch in and KO the dude you will end up wrestling/grappling. So I would say its good to know some other art like wrestling to help you out if you dont KO the guy with the first couple of blows.
you can have all the boxing skills or street fighting skills in the world but if you lack the mental strength to street fight you will get ktfo.
I have seen a martial artist who had years of experience, black belts etc get beaten senseless by someone throwing wild haymaker type punches.
In a street fight most mma skills are useless. If you are fighting the guy 1 on 1 on a padded floor maybe its of use, lets be honest, if you are in the real world, you probably have more than one attacker, going for a take down will get you kicked in the back of the head, stabbed, or worse.
If you have to fight, stay on your feet, fight fast and feriociously until they are no threat, then run like the wind or you'll get busted.
I agree with this thats why I don't buy the whole "I'll let the other guy hit me first," talk. Just like pro fighters say, everyone has a plan until they get punched. A single punch can rattle you, and cause you to panic. Thats why if I think its going down, I'm making sure I get off first.
I have a friend that just recently beat the hell out of some 4th degree black belt kid because he just started wailing on him with haymakers, and the kid panicked.

So with that said if I'm squared up against someone in an orthodox stance should I jab with the left first straight to the face since he'll probably be expecting a looping overright hand as most people do when they fight?
Nope never make the first move.. always use the other guys momentum against him.. You can counter him with a JAB if he telegraphs his punch enough .. if he ahs enough forward momentum.. you can stun him with the JAB and then Finish him with a nice right..
But still What you are saying works too.. But I prefer to counter
ive never understood why people in a confrontation stand directly in front of the other person, 2 inches away...ive seen it happen so many times. idiots!
Did anyone metion the immense value of headbutts to start a fight? A split lip or broken nose is a pretty big disadvantage. The other guy talks shit, and you just ram your forehead in their nose/mouth.
Biting is very effective as is eye gouging, however growing up there is higher chance of getting illnesses with biting (you bite odler ppl who are more likely to have some disease), bear that in mind.
groin hitting in any way is also great
I think boxing helps with proper punching technique and with better ability to judge distances.
As I mentioned, Hopkins' headbutting skills are also not to be discarded.
Boxing is a very incomplete form of fighting, but you get to meet more good boxers than good MMartists so that kind of evens it out IMO.
running is great, being on drugs/alcohol is not (it might make it more fun, though).
i dnt think it helps, been in a few in my days for one reason or another and ive been trainin in fightin since i was 10, now 20, n id never stand in a boxing stance or even let whoever i was fightin know that i no how to fight like that
I dont see fights go to the ground often either. I live in the Bay Area California. And ive seen plenty of street fights as well as been in quite a few myself. If you see a fight go to the ground its because someone got Ko'd or lost balance. But you dont see much tackling out here. It is a pride thing to stand up and go toe to toe. But being that MMA is getting popular now, it probably happens more often today and im not around the younger crowd as often. Basically Boxing will give you speed, power, accuracy, and balance. In a street fight, throw all technique out the window and throw as fast and hard as you can furiously with intention to kill. If your trained and can throw your punches properly the fight will be over fast. 95% of people are untrained. You train, you win period.
i think it just depeneds who and where ur fighting i noticed when i lived in queens ppl would fight in the street they would stand toe 2 toe and throw punches same 2 kids in my school i think its a respect thing that u dont tackle or grab somones clothes
but out here on longisland white trash has a habbit of just grabbin ur cloths or wrestlein 2 the ground which isnt exciteing or fun so in a toe 2 tor fight boxing
but when ur grabbin and on he ground a boxer dont have a chance

Muay Thai is dope. That and a ground attack should be almost complete package for mma style fights. I've been watching this show Human Weapon, forgot what channel it was but it featured 2 hosts, 1 host is an mma fighter and the other was a former NFL player/wrestler and they go to different countries to learn the different fighting styles of that country and show the history of the art. At the end of the show they pick between the 2 hosts to go toe to toe in that style with a chosen fighter specializing in that specific style. So far I've seen Judo, Savate, krav maga(dope), pancrase, Filipino Kali, and missed muay thai. I like seeing that MMA dude try and handle other styles. Some of the styles do actually work for the street. You should look it up and check it out.
i know a place where i live that teaches that. I also heard that thats the martial art that alot of police officers are taught
im training in Muay Thai now, (thai kickboxing) and have done Olympic Freestyle Wrestling for 4 years(through HS)

jab jab jab all day. keeps you back, up off the ground, and makes em lunge in opening them up for the finishing left hook. if they don't just run away with a broken nose from the jabs.
