Fighters get money upfront, though, and more from PPV buys. Gate revenue isn't where they get their millions from. If a stateside promoter wants to hold the fight say at MSG and offers Floyd and Ricky more than an English promoter will then it will be in the States. Even if the fight would be more profitable in the UK a rich American promoter could easily put up more money.
so it dosnt matter whether its a 15,000 capacity or 30,000 capacity? surely warren would offer more because he knows hes going to make the money back from the gates plus ppv?
the only problem will be making the fight happen. billy graham (rickys trainer) and ricky want this fight and are extremly confident about winning but it all comes down to money.........lets hope floyd dosnt price himself out because this fight has to happen, its THE ONE EVERYONE wants to see.
...and you have to agree with them..........haven't you seen fights in germany, the U.K, and other countries where there has been so much bias that there was no point in turning up.....
there could be bias in the states also, but it is definitely not as common as in other countries......in the states most fighters are guaranteed a fair go.....
germany and italy yes not uk or us nowhere near the level of bias.
I don't think it would matter to the fighters, no. PPV buys is where the big money is, and they get millions upfront these days no matter how popular the fight is in the end.
Anyway, I agree with you that this fight could possibly be made in the UK. There have been plenty of bigtime fights outside the States before so as long as things are handled right this one could be as well. But on the other hand I really think that Hatton wants to make his US debut soon, and if Warren can make some favourable arrangement with an American promoter (ie. one where he makes a lot of money) then the fight could be put on in the States.
im glad you cleard that up then!
to be fair i dnt really care where it happens as long as it happens but it would probably be best for ricky to fight in the states. that way he gets used to fighting there in front of a mixed crowd (which will prepare him for future fights in the US) and where he is the the main attraction (he fought at MSG on his 2nd pro fight)..........also shut the haters up if he wins!
ahhh..no...i think vivian harris can beat hatton also..along with cotto
hatton would knock vivian out and he knows it. he turned down £750,000 to fight hatton and that was before tszyu.
is ricky hatton signed to showtime? that could stop the match from happening ive even heard that hatton's contract has run out wiv warren is that true :S?
his contract is running out with warren soon i think this or next month........rickys still contemplating whether to re-sign with warren or do something else.
Obviously jumping on the bandwagon with this thread coz his reasons are shit.....either that or he knows nothing about boxing and has probably only seen the KT fight, which dosnt justify calling someone overrated.
Yes, but the problems are that a) Hatton does not want the PBF fight right away, and wants at least one or two easy defences, and b) It doesn't matter what they want if they want to hold the fight at MEN, but odds are Floyd won't take that. A neutral site in the UK maybe, MSG for sure, but he won't go into the lion's den like Kostya did.
Floyd isn't just going to accept any foolish offer that Hatton makes. This is boxing, people will walk all over you unless you show a bit of backbone.
dont know whether hatton has said he wants it now or not but ricky, billy graham, and frank warren all want the fight bad (very suprising for warren, he must be very confident). but this is not the point as floyd looks likly to face zab end of this year which means ricky has been over lookd.......for the time being. So ricky will have to face "easy" defences due to the other big guns being occupied with their own fights. the fight will take place in uk no doubt about it and floyd will have to realise this sooner or later. there is nowhere in the US even the world which would get 30,000+ so this is the most profitable venue. i agree it shouldnt be in manchester and have a non british referee that way PBF and all the haters have no excuses if it all works out for the hitman.
yea i think the handlers have messed it..........seein as no-one is out there to fight due to all the big guys being busy with other fights the only fights out there are against Kt and maussa..........which 1 would u pick!
must be a money problems coz im sure ricky wouldnt turn him down.... ithink he should fight him at the end of the year to prove every1 wasnt a fluke and then no1 can say hes overrated and dosnt fight anybody decent!
so you've never heard of ray olivera, ben tackie and vince philips? i agree there is a lot of hype about him but what you got to understand is hes the best british fighter we got (out of very few world class) so nut-huging is understandable and in my opinion justified (to a certain degree anyway). its not like he hasnt tried facing people just that no-one wanted to fight him i.e vivian harriss when he had the wba belt, so he went for the main man in the division. whatever you say before the fight everyone regarded kostya as number 1 in that division and every1 had him in there pound fr pound lists so even if he was shot against ricky no-one knew about it until after the fight...........we'l just have to see what ricky does next and hopefully proves all u haters wrong.
has hatton faced anyone as slick as floyd? everyone is easy to point that all hatton has to do is press mayweather...which is a strong possiblility. but equally as strong of an argument is that mayweather will just slip and counter hatton and stay on his toes...can he do it for 12 rounds..yes he can. mayweather can win this ugly too...all he has to do is catch hatton comming in then tie hatton up so that it will negate hatton's in fighting.
ricky's got a bag full of tricks on the inside but so does mayweather although i doubt floyd can stay in the pocket for too long trying to shoulder roll ricky's shots.
ricky is definatley going to try to go for the body to slow pretty boy up which will open him up for floyd's uppercuts.
the ref will also play a big part as well. will he be the kind of ref that breaks you up right after a clinch or will he be the kind that makes you fight your way out...these things have to be considered as well.
also how will floyd react when he hits ricky right on the button and doesn't flinch? what happens to ricky if all he can depend on are body shots because he can't hit floyd square on the jaw and is cathing a lot of downward punches and uppercuts?
...we'll see, this is going to be a great fight if and when it happens.
well youv answerd your own questions here : "ricky is definatley going to try to go for the body to slow pretty boy up which will open him up for floyd's uppercuts." "how will floyd react when he hits ricky right on the button and doesn't flinch?" "what happens to ricky if all he can depend on are body shots because he can't hit floyd square on the jaw"
if hatton has to depend on his body punches he has nothing to worry about. he is one of the most devastating body punchers i have seen and if this is the only way to stop floyd then i put my money on ricky.
But we all know Hatton wants Maussa and I think that degrades Hatton as the 140 pound champion.
the only reason hatton wants maussa is because mayweather is meant to be fighting zab, cotto is fighting branco (i think) and corralles is fighting castillo.....who else is there worth fighting at the moment. i agree its not the fight i want to see but theres nothing else out there and at least he gets a belt out of it.
i can see where all this going...........pbf and cotto will move up hatton will clear up the division, everyone will call him a bum for not moving up when in reality everyone else seems to be ducking him.
with ricky fighting ndou end of this year or beginning of next year i think mayweather will either fight zab or margarito next.....and if coralles beats castillo in their rematch i think warren will match him and ricky up because chico said he was willing to come to england and floyd isnt...
when he beats coralles (if its ever made) and floyd beats zab/margarito it will set up a mouthwtering end/start to 2006/07!!!long wait but good things come......
Yes you have won a poster of Floyd Mayweather. I guess we will all find out about Hatton within a year, it's to early for you to overrate him. I just don't see him becoming one of the greats, I see too many flaws in his game.
Thanks!
I suppose we will have to wait and see and i hope he proves all the haters wrong.
I dont overrate him at all, i havnt said hes going to go over to america and knock every1 out in the first round! He has flaws like any other fighter but hes still only 26 and is beginning to reach his peak. He has a good team and a great trainer in Billy 'the preacher' Graham and i believe he will go far. Maybe not 1 of the greats but i believe he will have some superb fights because he is 1 exciting MOFO!
i know this may sound like im seriously bumming the hitman but he is one of the main reasons i got into boxing serously and turned me from just a casual fan....nothing wrong with a bit of love .. about time us brits were back on the map!!!
Correct! It is Thomas Hearns. Yes he will probably beat N'Dou by a close decision. But I think the big guns will be fighting each other by 2006. I don't ever see Warren letting Hatton fight one of the big guns in the US.
Do i get a prize?!
I think he'l knock out N'Dou middle to late rounds. Everyone wants to fight Ricky because hes the hottest thing in boxing right now and is underrated across the pond. The big guns have to fight him so i think he'l have more than enough offers next year...whether these offers turn into something is another matter.
To be fair i would like ricky to go over and kick the crap out of everyone over there just to shut everyone up but it is a difficult position Warren is in. If he can get an elite fighter to come over here and sell out a 75,000 capacity stadium its quite difficult to convince him to go over to the US wouldnt you agree?
I better not see Hatton against a bum in his next fight. He better fight one of the top fighters or no one will respect him as a champion. I want him fight one of these guys, Mayweather, Corralles, Cotto, Castillo or Witter. I have feeling that Warren will be ducking these guys for sometime. He will make BS excuse every time & blame it on the other boxers or promoters.
The IBF are making him fight against the winner of N'dou/Urango. They have set up an eliminator in florida on Aug 19 with the winner facing the hitman end of the year beginning of next (refer to first post in the thread).I would prfer ricky to fight the big fights so he can prove every1 wrong and shut all the haters up but he has no choice and although these are not great fighters they are known and are not bums.
Floyd won't wait that long to take this fight, he's probably going to move up soon before then, I bet. He wants a superfight now.
yes in his next fight which will probably be at end of the year beginning of next, the same time as Hatton faces N'dou/Urango.
He wants to win as many belts at different weights as possible but i dont think he can go any heavier than welter ... not yet anyway, so he either fights zab/margarito/mosley but after that hasnt got anywhere to go.
After each fighters next fights they'll probably call eachother out and its the fight the public are crying out for so it will have to happen sooner or later. i reckon it will happen next summer...on a hot summers night ,in cardiff at the 75,000 capacity open air Millenium Stadium!
i dont think hattons ducking him i think warrens is a bit wary of witter..always has, but i think there is logic to this.
witter is a dangerous fighter and although i think ricky would beat him why fight him now?hes just beaten tszyu and the ibf are making him fight ndou.after that hel fight a superfight with either PBF/Coralles/Cotto so where does leave witer?..........well i think warren is using him as backup if ricky loses his superfight what better way to get back in the big time then to fight an excellent and well known fighter in witter and at the same cash in on a massive all british payday?
That he's at the end of his career, fighting the biggest threat at Middleweight, and then plans to fight the Linear Lt Heavyweight Champion.
I wouldn't call it an excuse; it's more like his prerogative.
Thankyou.
So can we all agree now that he doesnt want to fight winky?
Wow so he will fight the winner of N'dou/Urango end of the year, I can't wait. Why wait until end of the year or 2006 to fight why he can't fight in September or October. Actually I think N'Dou has a good chance of beating Hatton, but N'Dou doesn't punch too hard, so even if it's close fight like all other N'Dou fights, Hatton will get the decision. But don't count Lovemore out. Warren has to put his boy against the big names soon or later, he can't keep running away, because Hatton will lose his IBF belt this way. I have trivia question. Who was the original HITMAN???
Thomas 'The Hitman' Hearns as far as i know...
Well they are fighting on Aug 19 (refer to post again) so dont think they'll fight in September or October. i have complete faith in that 'the hitman' will beat N'Dou and then fight 1 of the big guns and beat them aswell.
ok im new to this but if a fighter calls another fighter out and the fighter being called out dosnt want to fight the fighter that called him out, whats that called?
all out war!!!but we'l have to wait and see in oct who wins.
personally id love for ricky to fight any of those because i think he can beat them all with the exception of PBF but on the right night i think the hitman could take him.
if he fought any of these he would finally be recognised as a top, top fighter and get all the respect he lacks from america.
C'MON RICKY!
