This man is really going for the legacy. After Taylor (assuming he wins) he is looking to go after Tarver at Light Heavyweight to become the linear MW "and" Light Heavyweight champ at the same time...

Hopkins says that no one really wants to see him vs Jones since Jones was KOed twice and once by a man he already whooped...Winky, he said it was just business...that Winky had his chance two years ago but opted to fight Mosley for more money...now Winky wants his chance after beating Tito but Hopkins already whooped Tito also...BHop just wants Taylor and Tarver then he is done by years end...
You people are starting to think Winky is a little too good now. He beat Félix Trinidad, a guy who could never handle a good jab to begin with.
Let's not forget how a small Sugar Shane Mosley gave him a run for his money in their second fight. Winky is good, but he's not that good.
EXACTLY!!!!!!
Trinidad is the most one dimensional fighter today!
IMO at this point of his career I think Taylor is the bigger threat, not cuz of his experience but cuz of his youth..
He could make Hopkins fight every minute of every round and make Hopkins old and stop him late or Hopkins would quit(cuz his VERY old now and anything could happen)
Winky Wright only has that jab, but remember Bernard Hopkins ain't one dimensional like Trinidad and Bernard wouldn't be stupid to get jabbed all night...and Winky Wright isn't a pressure fighter...
If he fights Taylor it could be a dog fight.
If he fights Winky it would be technical.

Good post Sean!

im not a B-Hop hater at all i think hes done outstanding in his career and think hes an excellent fighter.
what im trying to get through to you is for the B-Hop haters and people in the future looking back and saying he fought everyone and beat them...except for winky...he needs to fight him and shut them up
he needs to wipe out any possibilty of doubt about his legacy by fighting the best fighters (which he has done) but the best out there at the moment up and until his retiremant in about a year and a half....and thats winky.
If I have a knock On BEenard it is that his biggest victories are against guys that took risks moving up in weight, he does not need to fight Winky another guy moving up in weight-rather I think most fight fans want to see him actually be the one taking a risk and move into waters with bigger fish...
fighting the light heavyweight champ as opposed to Winky would suffice at least me...either way Winky or Tarver will probably not be the most entertaining fight but If I had to choose I want to see Tarver vs. Hopkins not NArd vs. Winky!
Taking the Tarver fight is Hopkins trying to cement his legacy on this era. There's more risk at fighting Tarver than Winky. Tarver's bigger & stronger than Hopkins. Couple that on the fact that he beat Jones & this fight makes sense for Hopkins. It would generate alot more money than a fight with Winky.
I guess this means Taver - Johnson 3 is off the table until further notice. Of course if Hopkins loses to Taylor it might be back on, unless he jumps up to light-heavy anyway.

There is no doubt about Hopkins' legacy.

No, not at all.
He's done more than enough already. No one in thier right mind can question his legacy.
There will always be someone left people can say that about.
The fact of the matter is he's fighting Taylor, and then will move up to Lt Heavy.
No one in their right mind could say he took a shot at the Lt Heavy crown to duck Winky. That's non sense.
He's said for a long time now he's retiring soon, and his plans are set.
Winky had his chance a while ago and wasn't interested.
You aren't very up to speed are you?
Hoipkins is 40 years old, and has paid his dues. He's stated several times that he intends to be retired by his 41st Birthday in early 2006.
He's said earlier this year that he's going to fight twice more.
This next fight is against a fighter's who's viewed as the biggest threat to him at middleweight, who's young hungry and powerful.
After that he wants to take a crack at the Lt Heavyweight crown.
To suggest he's ducking a smaller fighter who already turned down a fight agaisnt him is non sense.
Hopkins has two very credible and prestegious fights left, and they don't include Winky.
That's too bad for Winky, but not a slight agaisnt Hopkins in the least.

So can we all agree now that he doesnt want to fight winky?
That would be what it sounds like.
I don't think he wants to fight Sturm or Ouma either.
But to imply he's afraid or ducking them is non sense.
That he's at the end of his career, fighting the biggest threat at Middleweight, and then plans to fight the Linear Lt Heavyweight Champion.
I wouldn't call it an excuse; it's more like his prerogative.
Thankyou.

winky didnt want to fight because he opted for another elite fighter for more money ..... whats B-Hops Xcuse?
