1. Mayweather
2. Maravilla
3. JMM
4. Pac
5. Too many fighting for this spot Nonito seems to be front runner tho
I had Pac 3 and JMM 4 before their trilogy fight. lol at lb4lb rankings tho...sooooo subjective
SantaCruz-Casamayor, Holified-Lewis, Chavez-Whitaker were blatant robberies in every sense of the word while Martinez-Cintron was just a pathetic display of the commission.
I did have Pac winning by a point in their 2nd encounter but last night was just super rigged. Marquez 8-4 easily. Regardless I love this sport but disgusting decisions like this is making me say screw this nonsense it's dead.

And to the Pac apologists NOW bringing up that ridiculously suspicious compubox numbers...hmmm you guys realize compubox has literally nothing to do with how a fight is scored right? (Extremely exaggerated hypothetical scenario)If a fighter lands 500 punches in round one and lands zero the rest of the way he still loses the fight by a wide margin.
I watched the british feed of this with Khan commentating and the commentators clearly had it right the whole way through (with zero bias, aside from Khan obv;but even he admitted Pac was getting schooled). They had Marquez winning round after round after round, which is what I saw. Saw the fight twice live I had it 10-2 Marquez (lol @ me). Watched it twice and tried to justify this crappy decision and still had to give it to JMM 8-4.
The studio commentators for British feed were livid and their cries of foul play were justified imo. Pac gets badly owned by Mayweather, this is all very clear now. The Mosley-Pac fight set the precedent, this fight confirms it.
Not to bash the mods as they have to deal with a lot of ridiculous nonsense from some posters on here BUT merging everything here is kinda wtf. Some threads/responses were actually decent and had a solid conversation going. Stuff will get lost in here tho..oh well I too am over it.
Bradley by knockout imo....Kahn will be faster and look good in there until he gets caught. Despite what he sais or wants to believe, we all know he has chin issues.
Man this is sad to watch...not quite on some Roy Jones in Russia sad, but nontheless. I admit I wasnt the biggest Kahn fan, but it is undeniable that he is a true legit contender for p4p. Beating Judah, Maidana, Paulie in succession isnt as easy as one would think. Cant wait for Kahn vs. Timmaaaay
Shouldn't have been stopped imo, cut was very high nowhere near his eyes...hell wrestlers do all the time to themselves to bleed. BS...Oh well still wanna see Gamboa vs JuanMa or even Nonito
Yes Gamboa is a lot faster and should win this, but those Vegas odds seem ridiculous to me considering Ponce's devestating power and Gamboas at times fragile chin...so I felt confident in laying down 75 bucks on Ponce. ONE TIME!!!!
I never ever post....but this seems like a thread that (hopefully) wont be taken over by all the Pac-Floyd fans that seem to take this board over. The reason that Marquez gets "hit so often" and gets "knocked down" all the time is that the guy is a fighter. Sure he can counter his way to an easy decision most times but the guy loves to stand in there and bang, if Floyd fought the same way he would get hit alot more and dropped way more as well. But Marquez trades in spurts vs guys who are naturally bigger than he is and thus occasionally gets hit hard and dropped, but u gotta admire his amazing ability to get back up and own the rest of the fight.
I am by no means a JMM "fan", I do however love boxing (box myself) and Marquez' abilities as a boxer will always be underrated. Can he beat Pacquiao? No I dont believe that he can, but i also dont think he'll be embarrassed like Hatton, Marg, Cotto etc. have been. If all things were equal JMM would beat Pacman 7 out of 10 times. As things are right now, with Pacman being a cash cow and outgrowing JMM natural size by so much Pac should win easy, but he wont. Its a testament to JMM's skills that those fights arent blowouts.
Yep, exactly. As fans, one of the things that we constantly hear about whenever someone like Floyd, B-Hop, Ward, fights is that they may seem dull and unexciting due to the lack of risks that they take during fights. They always seem to be so concerned with a safety first attitude and win on the cards mentality that they forget that they have fists too and are allowed to knock the other guy out. However they are content to just lay back and win a decision as opposed to firing back and risk being hit in some exchanges. And if you look at the knockdowns that Marquez has suffered during his career all of them have been during a heated exchange where both fighters threw and one landed right on the chin (the only exception to this is when Floyd hit him with one of his step-in lead left hooks).
As for being technical? Or a tactician? Boxing IQ? Counter puncher? JMM is all of these. That doesnt mean that hes not gonna get hit and dropped, it happens to every fighter. Margarito has demonstrated one of the strongest chins in the sport. Besides the Mosley fight when is the last time he was dropped? Or let alone hurt in a fight? Can we say Margarito is a better "boxer" or more skilled than JMM? Of course not, the biggest reasons boxers can go entire careers without being dropped is a lack of risk taking, a superman chin, and fighting soft opposition. JMM definitely takes risks, has a durable chin, and is fighting the top guys in his weight class every time out. Thats also a big part of it, opposition has a big say in wether u will get hit and dropped. Guys who fight the top guys will no doubt have some losses on their record, and even when they win it wont be easy and they might kiss canvas a few times. Add to that, Marquez' increasing age fighting men 10 years younger than him then its easy to see why he can be dropped so much.
On another note, I dont want to see him fight Pac or move to 140 and fight those guys. He can dominate 135 for as long as he wants and doesnt really have anything to prove at higher weight classes. Especially since it was evident by mostly everybody that knows boxing, that his increase in weight divisions was simply to chase Pacquiao into whichever weightclass he migrated to. At this point Manny is too fast, too strong, too big for a blown up featherweight.
I thought it was a close fight, it can be argued that JR lost the first 6 rounds of the fight and it was going to be tough to overcome. But JR had his opponent on fumes and clearly won the 2nd half of the fight. I would have been ok with a draw or a close decision either way, which it was.
I do agree though that JR's defense is pathetic and if he wasn't facing a guy with 10 ko's he would have been in a lot more trouble and probably gotten stopped. I dont like hating on a fighter though because it still takes balls to get in the ring and fight anyone, and JR may not have a lot of skill but he showed great conditioning, heart, and a hell of a lot of WIM.
He just doesn't have what it takes to be a real legitimate boxer at the top of the food chain, but he serves his purpose well and gives good exciting fights.
Meh, this might sound like a joke considering its in a ridiculous thread but my aunt's 2nd husband (uncle?) is friends with Antonio Margarito's family in Tijuana. Margarito wants to fight January 2012 and was told by Arum last night that he will be getting Chavez Jr.
I am not a big fan of either Pac or Floyd, and there are other fights I would like to see instead. However, if this highly anticipated(by everyone else) matchup did take place I dont see how Pac would even have a chance. Floyd has many options on how to approach this fight and can win in a number of different ways all while fighting on the backfoot. Shane has zero clue how to fight off his backfoot, Shane has zero clue how to properly fight a defense-first style, Shane also has no clue how to counterpunch. And yet all of that gave Pac alot of trouble tonight. It just so happens that those are Floyd's biggest strengths as a boxer. Pac would make it interesting because Floyd does lean on the ropes a bit too much at times and that will allow Pac to get off some flurries however the most likely result is Floyd winning a boring wide unanimous decision. Just my two cents
One factor that Shane has an advantage over Pac is his height and reach advantage. Even though he did not use it offesively, Mosley was effective in landing some jabs. Defensively, Shane use it well. When you Pac was attacking, Shane was backing up and uses his arm to get a distance. Mayweather is taller than Pac by an inch and still has longer reach than Pac but shorter than Shane.
Ur neglecting the fact that Floyd has much better hand speed and foot speed than Shane. Also Sugar Man has never fought off his backfoot or going backwards before and that was causing Pac to miss alot. Floyd is an expert at this and is an accomplished counter puncher. Floyd's jab is also really good, while Shane has always widely been cosidered to have one of the worse jabs in boxing. The casual fan will still favor Pac in a fight with Floyd, but thats a good thing as it will allow those of us who follow boxing a bit closer to win a decent amount of cash on that fight. Hope it happens, now more than ever
Yeah well the reverse of that argument is that the threat of manny's power, even after round 3 pitched a shut out and whilst I don't believe for a second that manny beats floyd in a one sided fashion, the threat of that power makes fighters fight differently, if you think that floyd will go into that ring and not be more cautious and gun shy then normal you guys are living in a dream world. Fighters are in general not as comfortable fighting a southpaw, every time I have seen floyd fight a southpaw he has been hit cleanly more than normal and stunned.
What Shane did last night was just one half of the equation, nullifying manny's offensive game the second part is much more difficult, which is the challenge for floyd. He is certainly capable but I wouldn't jump to conclusions based on last night. Floyd will still find it very difficult to nullify manny's work rate if you consider floyd doesn't carry knockout power, and like you have mentioned pac is also capable of turning the fight on it's head at any time with one punch, I believe if manny starts quick and floyd takes a few rounds to get going like the Judah fight manny he has a great chance
Yes Pac's power makes cowards out of normally valiant fighters. The difference however is that Floyd is pretty much always a coward. Which means he will always fight a defense-first style. Not to mention Floyd could make this really easy on himself and just pot shot his way to a decision. The title of this thread is that Manny's only chance is his power. Agreed.
lol @ the ring's p4p rankigs. They are trolling hardcore to include Miguel Cotto in the top ten. Thats just laughable. If Hopkins continues fighting and beating top opposition like Dawson, Bute, Cloud then he can easily be #1 p4p. He's fighting the very top fighters in his class which is more than you can say for the Pacs and Mayweathers of the world. I had BHop top 5 p4p before winning the title from Pascal.
Dear Friend, welcome to the forums! I have been lurking here for years and I too created an account just last year in order to learn SEO business opportunites. What you find will be bring you wealth beyond your wildest dreams. Just stay quiet, only post when posten to and you'll be ok. Good luck
Your logic and reasoning continues to be extremely flawed. BHop hasnt been beaten convincingly in 18 years! The two taylor fights and the Calzaghe fights were highly controversial and those two guys were highly touted. Also the first fights wasn't a draw lets be real, and Pascal is in his prime and was the legit world champion. Bhop is top 5 p4p and has been for quite some time, since the Trinidad fight imo. JMM losing to PBF didnt drop him at all. BHop best resume in boxing, and one of the few if not the only one of this era who is an all time great.
Why is the moral police congregating in this thread? Its a FIGHT! BHop is indeed one of the dirtiest fighters ever, and yes everybody knew that. So what? The other guy can do that stuff too, if he's not as good at doing it as Hopkins without getting caught then hey guess what clear advantage for Bhop. Its actually a skill to be able to roughhouse like that. Oh and another thing, id much rather watch two guys try to do everything in their power to win, dirty or not, than all that lovey dovey crap touching of gloves that was going on with Shane/Pac. Leave that stuff for after the bell, perfect example being tonight
