Watch ggg-Murray and you'll see the size of the ring they fought in, it was tiny and favored ggg's cutting off the ring. Murray still went 11 rounds. Groves and Abraham are past it dude, nobody even gives them credit for taking down Murray. Beating Murray got ggg P4P status, but Abraham-Groves were given no credit for taking down a "P4P" fighter's top 3 win :pat:
It doesn't matter. Fact is, GGG stopped an opponent (Martin Murray) who previously or after fighting GGG never came close to getting stopped. The same Martin Murray who had a very close and a controversial loss to Sergio Martinez. Martin Murray has fought above 160 pounds and even opponents from there still failed to stop Martin Murray. I somehow doubt Andre Ward stops Martin Murray either.
The reason why GGG gets as much credit for beating Martin Murray is because he stopped him, which none of those other boxers did.
You can say the exact same thing about Chavez, never dropped, never stopped.
No you can't because Chavez hasn't had over 400 total fights (amateur and pros combined) whilst still never being knocked down.
A boxer who hasn't been knocked down in only 40 bouts isn't the same as someone who hasn't been knocked in over 400 boxing bouts who is also the age of 35. Chavez is also younger than GGG.
Golovkin was rocked by Canelo in sparring and got rocked by a no-name in the pros.
Doesn't matter. Point is, he has never come close to getting dropped.
In the amateurs the ref gave ggg a standing count after repeated unanswered blows by Bute,
That's only because the rules are more strict in the amateurs and greater care is taken to ensure the best health of the boxers.
ggg was frozen, if it had been a pro fight it would've ended right there, fortunately the amateur rules worked in his favor.
That's just pure speculation / opinion from your behalf. I could just as easily state that fight wouldn't have ended had it been in the pros. In other words, your statement holds no extra value / worth than mine. The fact is, he wasn't knocked down so that is the point.
In addition, Lucian Bute has a higher knockout percentage than Andre Ward so even if he did manage to drop GGG, it still doesn't mean Ward would've also been able to.
By age 25 Ward (before his prime) was fighting the likes of Kessler, Golovkin is 35 and has yet to fight anybody as good.
That's because GGG has been avoided in his division more so than Andre Ward.
All of that is besides the point. The point I was trying to make was Andre Ward has also fought similar caliber of opposition as the opposition GGG has been knocking out regularly. However, GGG's KO record against such caliber opposition is still higher than Andre Ward's.
Andre Ward failed to KO the likes of Edison Miranda, Henry Buchanan, Allan Green, Alexander Brand and so forth so on.
On the other hand, GGG has knocked out practically every one of his opponents that are of a similar caliber / level.
In other words, GGG has knocked out pretty much every one of his opponents that are bums / journeymen. Whereas Andre Ward failed to KO many of his bummy / journeymen opposition.
A boxer who knocks out every one of his opponents that are a bum / journeymen is more skilled and has a better record than someone who goes the full 12 rounds against those same / similar opposition.
Furthermore ggg's resume is FILLED with junior middles, actual journeymen.
There's only a few opponents that were naturally below 160 pounds. The vast majority of his opponents were either his own size or larger.
GGG may have fought journeymen, but he has destroyed pretty much all of them unlike Andre Ward.
Brand a journeyman?
There's NOTHING in Alexander Brand's record that tells me he is any better than Martin Murray.
Hence, Golovkin's performance against Martin Murray was more impressive than Andre Ward's performance against Alexander Brand as GGG stopped Murray whilst Brand lasted the distance against Ward.
Heck, Alexander Brand's record isn't even better than Dominic Wade's. GGG knocked Wade out in just 2 rounds whilst Ward went the distance with Brand.
You do realize his only loss was a closely contested fight with former champion Badou Jack right? Brand would be a top 2 win on ggg's resume. Lemieux was already walked through by Rubio/Alcine at 154, but somehow he's a better fighter than Brand
No, it wouldn't. Dominic Wade is just as good a win as Alexander Brand and Martin Murray is a better win than Brand.
