I agree. I'm pretty shocked people thought it was close. I'm a huge Pac fan but thought Floyd dominated him, landed the better punches, etc. 3 rounds for Pac is the most I can give him.
What a joke fight. Between this and the Hendo stoppage fighting sports hit an all time low tonight. Hopefully Manny would love to use Rios like a punching bag again. If Alvarado trained a day for this fight I would be shocked. HBO was trying to use this as their Gatti V Ward for the new decade and what a fail (unless crack head Alvarado goes home and kills a family member or something). Stuff like this is why boxing is a dead ass sport.
I want to give some props to Alvarado. He did NOT want to get up after that knockdown, but for his pride and for the fans, he got up and tried to make something happen. That's how you do it, God damn it.
Rios looked better. Still a little slow in his movements and not a lot of pop in his jab, but when he hit the gas he was relentless. Still a few solid performances left in him.
lol, yeah he came into a fight without training, got punched in the face for 3 rounds and then lied in his corner to get them to stop it. Let's give props to a drugged up loser that is a reason boxing has less respectability then Pro Wrestling. If he had any pride at all he would stop being a complete F up and disappointment to his family, not to even mention taking money in a prize fight he didn't even try to win.
Im gonna be honest here and probably take sh*t for it, but I call b/s on Mike saying he saw four fingers. I think he just wanted out.
Of course he did, he didn't train a day and just got beat for 9 minutes to take a paycheck, should have just dove on the first hard Rios punch. Boxing off to another joke start for 2015. The sport is freaking done.
I thought he won (PQ) too by a round. He blew it though when he didn't take Lee out in the first. Lee could barely even stand up (he is lucky the ref didn't stop it when he had to lock his knees to stop swaying) and he waited until 4 seconds to go to throw another punch.
I think he was going to do a standing 8 count and then remembered there was no standing 8 count so he just panicked and stopped the fight. That stoppage was in a gray area.
I liked how RJJ and Kellerman corrected him with his running remarks but RJJ and Kellerman were bias too but I can understand, they have jobs to protect but Lederman a lone made me cancel HBO. I will buy Ward vs Kovalev but thats it!!!
To be fair Cuadras's own corner after the 7th or the 8th asked him why he was running so much. After that he settled down and started to win some rounds. Good fight that Roman edged.
When I think Manny vs Maidana I think of the first Maidana/Morales fight and how Morales fought him even except Manny still has much more left then Eric did at that Point. Manny won't lay on the ropes like Floyd did in the first fight either and even though he is degraded should have better stamina still. Interesting fight, would be nice to see it get made at 140 or so.
Dan Rafael is a pretty good journalists and calls out lots of the crap others like to suck up to. I often find myself agreeing with what he says.
Sure, he's fat and he never boxed, so what? Saying he cant comment because he neve boxed is like saying Roger Ebert should never have talked about movies because he never acted or directed one.
Let boxers box, the commentators comment and the journalists write.
Roger Ebert did direct a movie and wrote one. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Grade Z 70's sleaze but still. It is on IMDB just FYI.
I agree though. Rafael is a good writer and an actual real journalist. A rare thing for boxing "writers" these days. His USA Today columns and now his scorecard on ESPN are must reads. Plus like others said, Rigo is boring. If you dig that more power to you but stop flipping out every time someone says the truth.
Good post. Just like when Crawford fights at home. I like DW and thank people are being a little rough on him. Also he did more then just right hands last night, he had a knock down with his left hook and used it after the 3rd round when his right wasn't landing. Fun fight.
I think the size advantage played a role in how quickly Canelo was able to breakdown and dispose of Khan once he adjusted to Khan's speed and started landing counters. And of course, the body work was enhanced by thr size advantage. That said, if these guys are the same size, the fight plays out very similarly, it probably goes a few more rounds though.
Yes, I agree with this. This was really no different then when he fought Lopez and crushed him. 2 or 3 round to figure it out, big body shot, lights out. If he doesn't fight GGG next he should probably fight Jacobs or Liemiux (sp). It would be interesting to see what he looks like against an actual Middleweight.
