I love how the "Lewis was out of shape" get's beaten to death.
Lewis was 7lbs heavier against Klitschko than he was when he dominated Tyson.
Klitschko was 7lbs heavier against Arreola than he was when he fought Corrie Sanders.
Did anyone say Vitali was dreadfully out of shape against The Nipple?
Fight of the Decade? Seriously? Maidana-Ortiz was a better fight.
Not to mention at least 10 other but it's such a stupid comment that it hardly warrants taking the time to respond.
ODLH is a la cucaracha.
If British people want to buy tickets they can easily buy them from the exact same outlets as the Klitschko fans will.
There is no possible way for Klitschko to lock out British buyers.
What is happening here is Haye wants to be allotted X amount of tickets at a discounted price for his promotional outfit that he can then turn around and sell for profit to his own fans to make even more money off their backs.
If I was a Haye fan I would be a little bit pissed off about that. The Haye fans can probably get their tickets cheaper if they buy from a German dealer than have to suffer the Hayemaker Promotion mark up of 40% on face value.
Stupid cunts. I ain't watching out of principal.
Fuck Harrison and fuck Haye too.
Sadly, even if 95% of UK fans did the same Haye and Booth would still claim 3 million PPV's and 15 millions dollars in revenue.
Then they would use their made up numbers to justify more pointless fights.
BBC boxing/journalists are like ESPN boxing journalist----Clueless.
Dan Rafael got it right on this one. However the situation appears beyond comprehension of the invalids at the BBC.
Harry Greb and Sam Langford fought a lot of their careers with one eye.
I think it is safe to say those men had very little choice but to continue fighting, they were also two of the toughest and craftiest fighters who ever lived.
Kessler has a lot more to lose. He can retire now and live a comfortable life.
The argument is not whether or not he CAN fight, but whether or not he SHOULD fight.
And for it's worth Langford lost almost all the significant fights he had after injuring his eye.
I don't believe that
The doctor knows what he's talking about, if they are really covering up a serious injury it's on them
But if rest will really help then they are clearly going to do that.
They are only hoping that rest helps.
In reality he will probably end up having surgery at some point.
Obviously there is a name for whatever Kessler is suffering from, yet curiously they did not elaborate. Most likely because it is worse than they are letting on.
More like the Optician/Opthalmologist is saying stop doing anything that puts impact on your eye to see if it heals.
There's no yes or no to this and time can only tell.
It could be a retina detachment because that is caused by impacts and physical stuff can make it worse. So no sex aswell unless you're one of these lazy guys who come fast
Thanks for the insight.
Especially about the no-sex part.
I'm gonna make sure I keep my retinas firmly attached.
I'm pretty sure Kessler wont be in the ring before his vision is back to normal. Why would he? He is a multimillionaire and doesn't need to put his health on the line.
There are more than a handful of boxers who were already multi millionaires who returned to the sport with less than 100% vision.
None of them needed to do what they did, but fighters fight, and if a guy who likes to fight is being encouraged by a influential promoter to take a big money fight I don't think it's unreasonable that Kessler thinks he can get away with one more fight.
Plus, there is always the chance that he agrees to a fight, gets 75% of the way through camp and the heavy sparring and his symptoms start to come back.
Would he back out without thinking twice? I'm not so sure.
Dirrell by a controversial Split Decision.... I hope...
This may as well be considered the Championship Fight because if Ward wins and Dirrell doesn't advance there is nobody else in the field who can even hold Ward's jockstrap.
Berto needs to fight his mandatory, he has not done so in 19 months.
Plus we all know that should Berto not fight Aydin, he is simply going to fight a retread that he is confident in beating, not someone who will beat his ass like Shane Mosley.
Without knowing the seriousness, nobody can really comment on it.
There are no "minor" injuries when it comes to a fighter's eyes.
Kessler and Sauerland will not admit the seriousness of it because they know it could harm their ability to secure future matchups.
Like I said. If it's an eye injury that doesn't heal in 6 months, how the hell does it magically heal after 9?
If he comes back with 1 good eye and gets his ass handed to him it will be a rotten way to end his career.
Kessler is having double vision so no sparring for the next nine months and then he should be good to go again. Kessler himself is devastated. He just kissed his dream goodbye, but then again injuries can happen to anybody. This particular injury is directly related to boxing and is a reminder that this sport isn't kids play.
That may be the case, and it may not. There is certainly no guarantee that Kessler recovers 100% and I stand firm on my assertion that Sauerland will have strong financial incentive to not only push Kessler to fight again, but also to downplay the severity of the condition.
Personally, I would love to see Kessler make a full recovery, but at the same time am skeptical that he is going to be willing to travel to fight in the future. Surely none of these guys will be willing to go anywhere near Denmark and going on the road against the best fighter at 168, after more than a year long layoff is a tall order, especially for someone coming off an injury like this one.
I just don't want to see the guy forced into a fight at less than 100% because his promoter wants to get his money back.
Perhaps you shouldn't jump to conclusion and should know what you're talking about before condemning a man's character and bashing Kessler. I'll take the word of Professor Dr. med Gerhard Lang over yours, call me crazy.
You're a f*cking retard man.
I never bashed Kessler, nor did I attack his character. If you read the first post of the thread I say he was a good fighter with a career he should be proud of and that I would like to see him retire without doing any further damage to either A) his long term health or B) his lasting legacy as a fighter.
Once again, go f*ck yourself you stupid cunt.
Yeah I know, was just saying, if it risks permanent eye damage then he should retire, I would if I was him anyway.
And nobody has chosen to address my point that Sauerland clearly has financial incentive to push Kessler to fight again whether or not it is in Kessler's best interest.
Let's face the facts, Sauerland is not a boxing man, he is a money man, he sees these guys as strictly investments.
Kessler is an expensive investment because he had to pay off Palle, and he has seen only a fraction of the return on the investment that he was counting on when he lured Kessler away.
Honestly don't really see a problem with the aricle. As the guy said, it's mostly factual; the only real part you could take issue with is "the ongoing ill feeling between Haye and the Klitschko brothers, Wladamir and Vitali, has opened the door for 38 year old Harrison" which is, I suppose, too neutral and doesn't fairly distribute the blame (which most of us know Haye deserves the lion's share of.) Wouldn't deem it worthy of a letter of complaint, especially compared to some of the other stuff out there.
Comparing it to Lewis-Bruno is a disgrace and an insult to both Lewis and Bruno.
Also, an insult to us fight fans who have enough respect for the history of the sport to know better.
The way that Haye apologists jump to his defense on this subject by saying "it will make money" almost leads you to believe that they are going to somehow see some money out of it.
Does David Haye pay you guys a dividend for buying into his bull****?
Cause that's about the only thing that would explain the irrational support for such a sorry ass chump.
Only a Brit would pay 20 quid for such a piece of sh*t fight.
David Haye repeatedly tells his fans (with his actions) "I know you guys are suckers" and they repeatedly respond "Hell yeah we are".
Would British Football Fans pay a PPV price to watch Manchester United take on a run of the mill grade school team?
Because that is how big a mismatch and/or farce this fight is.
What is this sh*t about Riddick Bowe of all people?
If anyone is gonna beat the Klitschko it's not the fattest, laziest and most cowardly of all the fighters listed.
Riddick Bowe? LMAO. Show me a video of the Klitschkos throwing a Heavyweight Title Belt in a trash can and then we can talk.
It's good that a prominent media member is willing to step up and tell the truth.
In any sport people romanticize the past greats, and look down upon those who try to somehow minimize their greatness. The reality is that in boxing, just like every sport, the physical development of the human body and the scientific understanding of how to maximize it's potential has led today's athletes to be bigger, stonger and faster than those that came before them.
Face the facts, Jesse Owens couldn't even make it to the Finals of the 100m dash at the Olympics if he ran today... much less beat Usain Bolt.
Ben Hogan couldn't hand with today's best golfers on a monster 7,500 yard course.
Mark Spitz couldn't hold Michael Phelps jockstrap if they both raced as their "prime" selves.
George Mikan couldn't hang out in the low post with a prime Shaquille O'neal no matter what your grandpa tells you.
Boxing is a little different in that heart and determination become almost as important as your physical tools but at the same time, don't fool yourself into believing that the Klitschko brothers wouldn't be able to impose their physical advantages on the Heavyweight's of yesteryear.
Foreman is a good example. He was a physical monster in his prime, walking through every opponent and he was only about 6'3 and 220lbs. The Klitschko's far exceed his size and strength and certainly his skills. They simply lack that raw aggression (well Wlad anyway) that people expect from a Heavyweight Champ.
I don't think it's important to haggle about who they could or could not beat, it's only important that people have the good sense to realize that they are truly unique fighters and in many ways groundbreaking in that they are the very first men of their size to fight in a graceful and highly skilled manner.
No they expect it because that's what the BBC have for the most part delivered, for more than 70 years, and because it's written into the BBC's constitution and is how they justify their existence.
Dave, I appreciate your candor and honest appraisal on this subject.
Many times I have disagreed with you on this site (under a different name obviously) but the letter you sent to Mr. Costello is exactly the kind of approach that all UK boxing fans should take if they truly want to see the sport of boxing prosper, both inside and outside of your borders.
Whether Harrison-Haye makes money or not, and whether or not it sells to the casual fans distracts from the important point; which is that fighters like Haye who routinely fleece the fans with bogus fights are tearing the sport apart. And for a major news publication like the BBC to support his choices makes the situation all the more distressing.
I believe the most disturbing part of the article is the comparison to Lewis-Bruno.
For what it's worth I believe Frank Bruno is superior to David Haye.. and Audley Harrison... well you get the point.
Many people consider Lewis amongst the top 10-15 Heavyweights of all time, and for what it is worth Frank Bruno was giving him hell on Earth and was actually winning one scorecard 59-55 while being even on the others when he got careless and got himself knocked out. (Let's also remember Lewis was holding and hitting Bruno in a blatantly illegal manner in the finishing sequence).
Bruno was for all intents and purposes, the equal to Lewis that night.
Both men are far superior to Haye in my book, and it's disgraceful to compare a Haye-Harrison matchup to the classic fight that Lewis and Bruno put on.
If I were an Englishman myself, and one who appreciated the history of the great English fighters, I would consider this article a giant slap in the face.
TS is very courageous by using an ALT for posting such brave comments... what hypocrisy...
Congrats on typing all that out with Pac's balls in your mouth and his scrotum clouding your vision.
I guess you can't be new on this board and have an opinion. Guess I should have made 1,500 bull**** pointless posts first.
I'm happy to inform you that not only am I'm buying Pac vs Margarito PPV (so I can archive and watch it over and over again) but I'm going to see it live at Cowboys stadium.
You're so cool man, and you're such a baller.
Make it rain playboy!
I'm going to buy both of these fights.
The stupidity of this statement is only amplified by the fact that I named 3 fights.
Maybe in some kind of ancient English "both" somehow means "all 3".
