Vitali Klitschko vs Lennox Lewis
THE TRUTH
Vitali took the fight on just 10 days notice.
Vitali was clearly winning the fight 4-2 on all 3 scorecards at the time of the controversial doctor stoppage. Lewis was badly hurt and was staggering around the ring like a drunk, he barely survived the 2nd round. Lewis was getting outboxed, outworked, outlanded and was hurt several times in the fight.
punches landed
Vitali 156
Lewis 102
Lewis was exhausted, worn down and hurt from the accumulation of punches and was ready to get KTFO again, he collapsed onto his stool at the end of the 6th round, Vitali was the fresher of the two, he was a man on a mission and would've KO'd Lewis for sure if the fight had continued.
All the fans at Staples Center cheered for Vitali and booed Lewis after the fight.
Lewis promised Vitali a rematch.
Vitali destroyed Kirk Johnson in 2 rounds and called out Lewis again in the post fight interview. The scared Lewis retired shortly after that fight.
Lewis turned down 30 million dollars for a rematch and retired like a coward because he knew he would get destroyed by Vitali.
Vitali dominated Lewis and scared him into retirement.
I totally agree with your statement there.
He was 38 years old and was no where near his prime.
He was not very far from his prime. Physical prime and boxing prime are not the same thing. Lewis was a late developer, and under Steward's tutelage his increased ring intelligence greatly outweighed his loss of speed. His boxing prime was when he was around 35 years old; and even the 38 year old Lewis would have beaten the 28 year old Lewis.
The same is true for Vitali. He is 39, but is not very far from his boxing prime. The Arreola fight was probably his peak as a boxer. He is declining now but is still better than the fighter who lost to Lewis.
Lewis was out of shape in that fight, though.
I thought Lennox did a great job for being dreadfully out of shape and fighting a replacement opponent.
I ****ing love that fight.

The truth
Vitali was training for 8 weeks to fight on the undercard as was lewis to fight in the main event, they gave vitali the chance with lewis and switched the guys.
Lewis was on the verge of knockin vitali out, watch the fight for proof
kLITSCHKO WOM THAT LAST ROUND ON ALL 3 CARDS
:haha::haha:....Vitali took the worst beating of his ENTIRE career in the last 2 rounds of that fight.....the punch that opened him up was LEGIT so that means the TKO win was LEGIT.....Lewis came in really heavy and you could see he wasn't in the best shape he could be in....Vitali on the other hand was full of hunger and REMEMBER that he was fighting to save the Klitschko's reputation in that one.....so ALOT of things play a part in this one.....a rematch would've been cool tho.....the thing that gets me is that no matter what, no matter how you look at it....Lennox Lewis won that fight fairly!!....whats all the drama for?!? :cool2:
I'm a huge Lewis fan, but this is the truth. However, Lewis wasn't in the best of shape for that fight, and he caused the cut over Vitali's eye and forced the stoppage. Saying that, a rematch would have answered any lingering doubts over who really won the fight that evening. I still believe Lewis would have won the rematch. He is an atg and fought in a much more competitive era than Vitali did.

Lewis has flashbacks and nightmares about vitali, like rocky does about ivan drago.
This was well done. funny stuff.
I'm not a fan of either Klitschko and Lewis. Vitali had an overall better fight, than the overrated Lennox, but the Briton placed a good punch, which resulted in a nasty cut. Simples.

30 Million Dollars? Really?
I love how the "Lewis was out of shape" get's beaten to death.
If you really think he was in shape for that fight, you haven't watched his other fights.
He had a history of not being in shape for certain fights and under-performing and then doing far better in the rematch.
You can argue that he should have given Vitali a rematch, and I certainly don't dispute that Vitali deserved one; but to claim it was cowardice that stopped him doing so is ridiculous. And to claim that he would necessarily have lost a rematch if there had been one is also ridiculous, given his history of always doing much better in rematches. And to claim he was fully in shape for that fight, when he clearly wasn't, is the most ridiculous of all.
At the time, I remember being in two minds whether I wanted him to rematch Vitali, and the reason was not that I thought (as a Lewis fan at the time) that he'd lose, but precisely because I thought he would win. The way I looked at it was, if he beat Vitali twice and then retired, where would that leave the division? It would have a new #1 fighter who had just been beaten twice. How could he become a great champion after that? For the sake of the division, I considered it better that Lewis retired when he did.
That said, I also think that Vitali has improved a lot since then. He was green then, and gets hit far less now and controls distance much better than he did then. Prime for prime, I think Vitali-Lewis is a pick 'em fight. But if there had been an immediate rematch, Lewis would certainly have been considered the favourite.
kLITSCHKO WOM THAT LAST ROUND ON ALL 3 CARDS
I don't believe that. Lewis was dominated in the first four rounds and dominated the last two. The judges all had it 4-2, which means you're claiming they all scored one of the first four rounds to Lewis, all of which he clearly lost, and that they all scored the last round, which was Lewis's best round of the fight, to Vitali? Please link to the official breakdown of the scorecards if you really believe this to be true. Without a link it's just too outrageous to be credible.
Great thread. Everyone knows this to be the truth. Lewis's post fight interview with Larry Merchant showed how insecure he was about the fight. He spoke like he knew he dodged a bullet.
Lewis was badly beaten in the fight. You could see his exhaustion when he slumped in the corner in the last two rounds gasping for breath.
Vitali was en route to a stoppage, especially knowing that his eye was at risk. I believe he was going to step on the gas and finish Lewis in the next 2 rounds.
The DR. robbed Vitali.
Furthermore, to add insult to injury, Lewis went back on his promise and rather than give Vitali the rematch, retired to become one of the worst commentators of all time.
Vitali>>Lewis.
I love how the "Lewis was out of shape" get's beaten to death.
Lewis was 7lbs heavier against Klitschko than he was when he dominated Tyson.
Klitschko was 7lbs heavier against Arreola than he was when he fought Corrie Sanders.
Did anyone say Vitali was dreadfully out of shape against The Nipple?
if it kept on going vitali prob would had to retire because of the soft tissue damage he would have suffered. and its not like lennox didnt have vitali staggering around the ring either. he felt those shots and his face showed
The same could have been said about Lennox. He came into the fight out of shape, didn't have his timing and was not as crisp as he usually was with his punches. If he had it all, as he usually did, he would have been tougher to handle..... and in that fight, it wasn't easy as some of the Klitchs fans make it out to be. They both gave and took.
No matter how you look at it, in the end, Lennox won the fight and stopped Vitali. That is what you will see as the result. Lennox = won, Vitali = Lost.
As for a rematch, who didn't want to see it but at least we got to see 1 fight between them. Sometimes, you don't even get that.
lewis turned vitali's face into ground beef and got a tKO.
I like the pictures you display but not your words. You are wrong. There were acoupleof very superficial cust below VK's eye, and that diagonal; gash in his eyebrow. yet he was OK and still fighting mad when the dr, pulled the plug.
Vitali wouldn't have lasted another 6 rounds with that eye, simple as that. If an old Lennox can do that to prime Vitali, imagine what prime Lennox does?
