Finally learning the game Amir. What I've said all along, negotiating with team Pac will put pressure on Mayweather. This blabbing to the media every other day hasn't got him anything so far. Start the negotiation and he'll get a call from team Mayweather.
Oscar should be publicly angling for Khan vs Pac in April or June and finalizing a deal with team Cotto for May 2nd. Working on co-promotions would help his current promotional state too: Jhonny vs Axeman, Mares vs Donaire or Loma, Figueroa vs Crawford, Maidana vs Marquez, Mattysse vs Prov, Bradley vs Thurman, Guerrero vs winner of Rios/Alvarado. Puts pressure on Mayweather the fighter/promoter for the date and a worthy opponent, puts pressure on Haymon to allow his fighters to take fights outside of the Haymon stable. He wants what's best for boxing, right? Stop lining up fights for Floyd and let Floyd the promoter line up his own fight.
Amir has great points. All those points take a backseat to Manny vs Floyd though. Until that is resolved he should expect to sit down and wait. Maybe even make a plan B, i.e. win a title against a fellow Brit that would surely sell out Wembly...hmm...
I'm not a huge fan of Khan and I do think a crude puncher like Maidana was a few punches/referee breaks from stopping Amir, but, give the kid a chance to unify 140 and move up to 147 before we dismiss his ambitions. He has the frame and skills to compete at the higher weights, I am curious how his punching power/chin will react with the big boys of 147/154 though. Yeah 154 seems far fetched at this point, but, who knows how the brit will carry the weight when he moves up. Good luck Amir because you will need it!
Just because Cotto came in at 146 in the fight previous to Pac doesn't mean he was walking around that weight comfortably. He planned to get under the limit of 147 and there's no telling what he had to do to achieve that. 145 is only a 2 pound difference yes, but, that 2 lb difference could be harsh if the body has already burned off all the fat and excess water. Pac is stuffing himself with 5000+ intake of carbs a day and Cotto is probably on a minimal intake for the last week.

Pac fought DLH at 147 pre Cotto and Clottey at 147 post Cotto. If it's only a 2 lb difference than why ask for it? He clearly wasn't comfortable fighting Miguel, who was the champion at the time, at the full Welter weight limit of 147. Again, if he gains no advantage from the weight limit than why demand it?

Take your loss like a man Khan. It was a good close fight that could have gone either way. If you scored it 6-6, or 7-5 either way it was fine, take off the 2 points for pushing and the bullsh*t knockdown fine. It was still was a good close fight that could have gone either way. If you judged it anything more than that than you're in the minority. Schaeffer, Khan and the rest of the Golden Boy crew are all pissed because the fight wasn't stacked in their superstars (Khan) favor like it typically is. They thought Amir would handle business no matter where the fight was or who the ref was and they were dead wrong. I didn't see Schaeffer or Oscar protesting for Maidana when Cortez took a bullsh*t point, was breaking any inside action, and saved Khan from being KTFO in the 10th. "I'll give Peterson a rematch", what a crock of sh*t Amir!
Typical Schaefer and Golden Boy tactics. Use Floyd's name to build interest and a name for your young fighters. You got Ortiz an unwarranted shot and look what dividends that paid. Guerrero, Khan and Canelo need not be mentioned in the same breath as Mayweather till they actually show they can beat the best of their own divisions. Any time one of these guys fight they're a possible Mayweather opponent at the end of the year or sometime next year, GTFOH!
I only watched Garcia vs Morales once so I may be crazy. But I seem to recall Morales busting up Garcia's face and controlling most of the fight. Garcia missed wide with majority of his punches but did come on late, so he still gets props. But, was it Morales fading due to age, wear, tear, etc or Garcia coming on down the stretch. 7 to 8 years ago Erik starches this kid. Also, I can't get out of my mind how Morales was mocking Garcia's wide punches by throwing slow left/right hooks at the air with his eyes closed...some funny sh*t. Wonder if Khan can make him pay when he misses with those wild hooks.
The guy who had a history of tax problems calls out another man about tax problems. They both have made hundreds of millions of dollars, why not just enjoy the buildup without the playground banter and act like a grown a$$ man.
Good strategy for Floyd cus Omar should be a decent sparring clone. As for some of the posters, when the hell did people start picking tko's and mid round stoppages for Floyd? Floyd by close UD but I'm sure Cotto will make this fight competitive and interesting. So far the only style that has troubled Cotto has been an aggressive, busy style not a defensive, counter punching style.
I hope geale ices cotto thereby ruining his shot at canelo or ggg. Roc nation is going to lose 50 million dollars on this investment
Because? Try being a fan of boxing and have a positive outlook every now and again. No need to be emotional and spit hate just because. Enjoy the sport.
Wasn't it this time last year that people left HBO for dead? SHO must be scrambling because their fall lineup looks shaky at best while HBO will be carrying the banner for the rest of the year. Great move by team Canelo!
I'd tend to agree with Paulie about Cotto troubling Floyd in spots. However, I think Cotto would have to win within 8 rounds, hurt Floyd early or drastically improve his stamina. He was competitive after 8, winning 5 rds on my bias scorecard but more realistically 4 before Floyd swept the championship rds. Everyone knows Cottos shortfalls with stamina, hell Floyd even hurt him in rd 11 I believe. Rather see a Canelo match right now.
HBO has built mega stars a la Oscar, Floyd, Manny and will continue to groom the next crop of superstars. Both entities (HBO/GBP) will move on just fine without each other. HBO still has a gaudy lineup with Ward, Jmm, Sergio, Donaire, Golovkin, Jcc Jr, Bam Bam, Bradley, Dawson, Klitschko bro's, Gamboa, Mikey G, Rigo, Bute vs Pascal, Viloria finally on network and GBP's void to invest in young up n comers. Not to mention that HBO built GBP's roster so I'm sure they'll be able to develop another talent pool as well. What I really want to see is if GBPtime will be able to pull in outside promotions to work with them once HBO starts investing in those promotions. Also, I'm not so sure if SHO/CBS can handle a full roster, schedule, etc and keep GBP's stable growing as they have been.
Vargas left Mayweather for Top Rank, okay. Gamboa settled with Top Rank and will more than likely sign with Mayweather. Considering all the pay outs and percentages Bob will get from Yuri's side, this should still be a win for Mayweather.
Chavez Jr vs Golovkin would be a compelling matchup because of Jr's stout chin, size advantage and willingness to mix it up. The only problem with that fight is Jr's unreliability, he tends to pull out of fights at the last minute and repeatedly fails tests. Martinez on the other hand has shown more and more weaknesses in every bout since Dzinziruk and combined with his recent injuries would be insane to put himself in front of Golovkins momentum. I'd like to see a unification vs Geale in the states or possibly making a deal to bring Quillin off SHO. If not than Murray would be a decent scrap.
Ortiz needs to be a man of his word and pay what he owes. License or not, he owes the man money for services rendered. Ortiz is an enigma, the talent of a superstar but the mental makeup of a loser. He was labeled as the next superstar than quit against Maidana, had an uninspired draw against Peterson, gets one credible win to his name against Berto and lands the biggest fight possible with Floyd? Has all this drama with Floyd by showing mental lapses of an amatuer than still lands decent paydays, most fighters would kill for those opportunities. I would say his manager is doing a pretty good job of keeping Vic's career rolling considering the results he produces in the ring.
Steward a moron? A hall of fame trainer? Don't hate because Margs is a has been and JCC jr is a never will be. You can take your Arce pic down too once WV2 ends his career!
Damn "Chino" a picture says a thousand words! If Victor is truly on another level from Maidana then why has he been constantly talking about Maidana since the Berto pre fight interviews? Ortiz needs to avenge his loss before he can get his manhood back, beat Maidana then tell everyone your'e on another level. You would think someone with Victor's struggled background would be more humble and not proclaim to be a top dawg especially since he just had a draw with Peterson. Show n Prove Vic!!!
Lucas had his shot and Danny proved to be the better fighter, period. He should focus on Broner, a vacant title like they are or moving up to 147. Beating Broner, Thurman, Khan, Maidana or Guerrero may justify a rematch down the road.
What are Pacquiaos notable wins in last 3 years? A close win against Bradley in a rematch??? who later struggled and had a draw against Chavez? yeah right.
Khan has wins over Julio Diaz (former WorldChampion, coming off a draw against SHAWN PORTER), Collazo (top 10 WW), Devon Alexander (top 10 WW), So Khan has wins over 2 top 10 WW's now.
I'm not putting Pac's recent resume on a pedestal, but, even with a recent lack of decent opposition I'd favor Pac over Khan. Also, a close win vs Bradley? I'll do you a favor ***Khan was booed in his hometown when the cards were read in a hotly contested & disputed decision win vs Julio friggin Diaz***
1. Bradley win for his old WBO strap tops the Alexander win.
2. Algieri win who is a legitimate top 10 Jr welter & went into that bout WBO Jr Welter champ tops Collazo who isn't a legitimate top 10 welter and has always come up short in title bouts (Berto/Hatton).
3. Rios a 28 year old former world champion tops Julio Diaz a 35 year old former world champion.
Broner's got some serious skills and although I agree with his assessment of Juanma, it doesn't seem that long ago that Broner was going tooth and nail with slow a** De Leon. Salido has a decent resume and his comp is on a different level: Jmm, Guerrero, Juanma, Gamboa, Cruz. I believe his granite chin could hold up against "The Problem" and he could give a very green, talented, young fighter like Adrien a run for his money.
Props to McCain and Reid for at least trying to get the ball rolling in the right direction. All the Pacquiao/ Bradley drama aside, boxing in the U.S. needs a major overhaul and at least an overseeing commission. I would rather see one national commission and rid of all these individual state commissions that muddy the waters with different standards. That along with a single standard of rules and regulations could bring some continuity back to boxing in the U.S.
Wow! Just wow! Maybe the move up to 147 is paying off for Paulie but damn, the term "busting up his face" and Paulie just don't go right together. Props to the Magic Man for bring back that paper title to the States.
Fuk Cotto....punk a.ss little b.itch. He knows he will get KTFO!
Your'e right homie, because Tony is 1-2 (0 KO) since the wraps came off and hasn't proven a damn thing to get another top notch fight. Margs is in for a serious beating.
