You must be smoking some damaged hash bro', get off the bad chit.
Werd! And going into the Sergio fight everyone was saying he was going to get demolished, then came that hook. WTH does Sergios knees have to do with that monster left hook that landed in the middle of the 1st round? Nada! good knees or bad knees, he would've still got dropped.
Anybody who knows boxing knows Canelo is going to have a face full of stiff jabs all night and it will really get ugly if Cotto starts landing hard left hooks. I like Canelo, I hope he is the next big star because he is really good and he fights everybody which is the most important thing but hes way too green for the Cotto that we have seen in the last 2 fights. I dont know where people get the idea that Canelo is this super hard puncher or great technician. What elite level champ has he really outboxed and what elite level chin has he cracked? Cotto is a proven commodity. Cotto can beat anybody at 147 and 154 not named Floyd or Pac. Hes too small for the middleweights but he should be able to beat Quillin unless he gets cracked.
Cotto looked great last fight but I am very confident that Canelo would win by KO and I wish the fight was already made.
Which fighter with an iron chin has Canelo rattled? Im not saying hes a pillow puncher, hes a good puncher but hes not stopping Cotto. Im not denying that Cotto has been hurt a few times but dont forget, they were all against hard punchers and he won those fights (Corley, Torres, Judah). Dont give me this BS about being stopped against roided up Pac or Plasterito. And it took 11 or 12 rounds for these cheaters to stop Cotto. Cotto has a much better chin than he gets credit for. He took punches with ease from PRIME Randall Bailey, Shane Mosley ...
Whoa take it easy there bud, I was simple pointing it out since you made the point of talking about the occasions in which he was hurt. Way to show your true colors.
All good bro, just tryna have a healthy debate because this a really good match up, 50-50 type of fight. I think its more like 55-45 Cotto but anyone who thinks its 55-45 the other way around is resonable. These clowns talking about Canelo demolishing Cotto (or even Cotto demolishing Canelo) dont know the game. its gonna be competitive boxer puncher, give and take fight with some really good moments along the way. Im preety sure it goes to a decision.
He was pretty rattled in the last round against Floyd.
And Caneol was rattled big time when he faught Cottos wack as brother a few years back. Whats your point? Cotto also faught Floyd better than almost all of his opponents. One of the very few fighters that was able to think with floyd and bloody him up. Canelo look like an amatuer against Floyd, Lara and Trout. He looked really good aginst washed up Angulo and I liked how he faught the way past prime Mosley.
How about this question - looking at the WW's of the past decade, where does Cotto stack up? hes right behind May and Pac with Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley. None of these other WWs over the past decade are touching Cotto.Whose gonna beat him? Cotto stops Victor Ortiz, Andre berto, Amir Khan and Kell Brook. He beats the S^5$ out of Tim Bradley and scraps a nice UD vs. Maidana, Porter and Thrurman.
Who says hes not willing to fight Middleweights? He hasnt even faught since wining the title. Im not saying he will beat GGG but I bet you he aint scared of him. That I can guarantee. And about Sergio, he totally exposed Sergios lack of fundamentals. Sergio is a great fighter, especially given that everything he achived was with no amateur background - purely athleticism, heart and will. Guys like that dont beat the Cottos of the world unless they can knock them out. In terms of all time rankings, Cotto is on the same level as Oscar DLH and Sugar Shane. One step below May and Pac of this era.
Plain and simple, Cotto is underated because hes not likeable by anyone. PR fans, like Mexican fans are so loyal that they will still pay $ to see him. The facts are the facts, the two main losses that derailed Cotto were Marg and Pac - both of which have major asteriks on them. He gave Floyd a hell of a fight, much better than anyone recently. You can say whatever you want about Sergios legs, they had nothing to do with the massive left hook that knocked his temple out of place in 1 minute. When we talk Cotto, were talking a first ballot hall of famer who was willing to fight ANYBODY and faught with as much balls and heart as anyone. Yes, hes not likeable and took a stupid loss against Trout but as a true boxing fan, you gotta give credit when credit is due.
i wonder if muscle make you hit harder?
Not at all. Body strength and punching power are two totally different things. Tim Bradley is a perfect example.
Might be a simple answer but I mean the guys train how to punch for most of their lives and they still cant hit hard, guys like Sergio mora , Paulie malignaggi. Is it because a puncher really is born not made?
Some good examples of natural punchers are Valero and Randall Bailey. Nobody can argue with me that they are not the finnest and skillful fighters out there but they have god-given punching power.

The bottom line is that punching power, like having a good chin to a large extent is natural. So, even when you work on things like foot placement and torque, it can only help so much. Tim Bradley is a perfect example. He is probably one of the most muscular guys in the game right now but cant crack an egg. Another thing to look at is leg power - the power comes from the legs and ability to torque your core.
Its just like hitting power in baseball. You can teach a guy how to hit all you want - you cant necessarily control how the ball jumps of the bat once you made your move.
doesnt mean he was prime.
Other than Pac and May who in this era has accomplished more than Cotto in the 140/147 weightclasses?
You can make an argument for 1 or 2 other guys like JMM and Mosley but the fact that its hard to count with one hand how many guys are more acccomplished in itself saids a lot.
The guy wasnt necessarily a fan fav in terms of his charisma like Tito but give the man his just do and acknowledge that he is a first ballot hall of famer.
Nothing to dislike about Junito - class act, took on all comers and always gave a great show.
Pac has taken a lot of bombs for years and not dropped, but then he gets caught with one and gets put out cold. Khan has taken a lot of bombs, taken some of them and been dropped a few times but he's never been out cold, he always gets to his feet and tries to beat the count. Tough one to call at this stage, Pac's chin might not be what it used to be so Khan might have a superior chin at this stage of their careers.
Bro, when I first this I though it was a joke. I cant belive your'e even trying to make a case for this. Just because Pac got clipped by another hall of famer and one of the top technicians in history doesnt take away from the fact this is the first time he's been knocked out in over a decade. Pac actually has one of the best chins in boxing. Khan was clipped with one punch knockouts by Prescott and Danny and has been wobbled plenty of times; the dude simply has a below average chin even though hes gifted in other ways, most notably his hand speed.
Amir Khan has never been knocked out cold, Manny Pacquiao has been put to sleep.
Probably the stupidest comment ive seen on this site. And there have been some really stupid ones in the past.
Definetely agree, those matches would be nice! One thing I would say is that I would really like him to train with Robert Garcia. That guy does wonders with brawlers and ortiz needs some more dimensions to his arsenal. he needs to tighten up his defense on the inside to.
Here's my predictions: Ortiz
vs. Josesito II - late TKO or wide UD
vs. Maidana II - UD
vs. berto II - Decision
vs. Khan - KO
vs. Lamont - Decision
vs. Cotto - Tossup
other champs
vs Pauli Malig - def knock him out or brutally beat up
vs. bradley/Alexander - see him squeking decisions in both fights
vs Floyd II - losing a decision but possibly closer than Cotto
vs. Guerrero - winning a decision
Boxing fans are just that, fans and don't know much about the sport. Calling Ortiz "just another fighter" is about as dumb a thing I have read in this place.
Like I said, if you're not one of the top 3 guys, your just a bum.
Ortiz may and may not be something worth investing in, we don't know that yet but that has more to do with Ortiz' state of mind.
We will see because the kid has the talent to be a money earner in this sport and he does make exciting fights.
Boxing fans are so short-minded. A dude losses a fight or 2 and automatically hes a bum or washed up, etc. If you look at the 147 LB champions (Paulie Malig/Tim Bradley/Devon Alex/Floyd), Ortiz has a shot to beat all of them with the acception of Floyd. He can even beat some of those champs @ 154 Lbs.
The truth is that Ortiz is a really good fighter. He may not be elite, but he's no bum. He has speed, power and a good chin despite him quitting vs Maidana and having it broken.
The shot he took from Berto and got up from was nothing short of amazing.
He's a good looking kid and definitely marketable. I think it would be smart for GB to get this kid another chance at the top and see where he can go.
Youre spot on in your analysis. He definetely has the ingredients to be a huge attraction one day. I definetely dont agree with him quitting against Maidana and I feel like the Josesito incident was a freak accident but he has solid wins against Berto and Lamont (I know they called it a draw).
I wouldnt be surprised if they are lining him up to redeem himself against the winner or loser of Maidana/Lopez, maybe a berto II would bring him back in the mix and possibly fight Khan down the road. I think he has a ton of good fights left in him, hes really young - people forget hes only in his mid 20's, he's still a bit immature but he will be back strong.
He's a "safe" opponent!! He has enough style and class to make a good fight but he has no power at 47-54 so he's safe unless you make a mistake.
Personally I think he should quit because he's going to go in "tuff" sooner than later and why get hurt when you've made your money and your a quality man? A safe fighter will get into not so safe situations eventually! Ray
Bro, he has no power at 47-54? Aside from Floyd, he KO/TKO everyone he faught at 54. He also KO/TKO everyone he faught at 47 accept for Margachito and Mosley, which has been knocked out. You have no basis for that argument Ray.
Aside from Floyd the only guy that can give Cotto a run for his money at 54 is Canelo.
Interesting mix up of styles, who do you guys see winning this fight?
Cotto by late stoppage. Once Cotto tests the waters and figures out that trout cant hurt him, hes going to cut of the ring and apply a heck of a lot of pressure. Should be an interesting fight though.
why does he keep getting a title shot even when hes coming of a loss i got no disrespect i love miguel cotto man great warrior. bt why does he get a title shot even when hes coming of a loss and he has also never beaten a great champion or a even a good champion to get those belst
Are you kidding me? Floyd is the only legitimate loss on Miguels record. Dude beat a prime Mosley, Judah, Margarito and dont forget all the hard hitters he beat down on his way up. Cotto is top 10 P4P!
Nice tight defense, punches well and looks to have an exciting style. Like any other prospect, cant wait to see how he does with the "chin test." Would like to see him eventually fight Jose Pedraza from PR. I think they are both at or around 130 LBS.
Are we blind to the fact that boxing needs ONE governing body and a National Commission rather than State Commissions. We need to help and protect our boxers and we NEED to do something about it!
Boxing is rooted in the underground. Sadly, it will likely stay the way it is as long as it is the premier poor mans sport.
