i think thats exactly what going on but too bad he's branded as a quitter and mental midget pretty much for the rest of his boxing carreer..

Ortiz is good enough to be relevant, but will never be as good as some people seem to think he can be. Basically, he's the new Zab Judah. So prepare to see a lot of undeserved chances for Victor Ortiz. If he doesn't retire because he doesn't deserve to be punched first.

Victor is doing all of this himself. He is very business minded. He is intelligent to not only brand himself but to ensure that he will be a household name whether he's boxing or not. He has this little empire to fall back on. Facelube, his cologne, I think he has some hats coming out. He is making sure he doesn't have to hawk products on 4 am infomericals after boxing. If anything it makes him more respectable.

Won't matter if he goes out and quit during his next match...AGAIN! "REBRANDING" is not what he needs, mental toughness is what he needs to work on!

crazy how after ups and downs this guy has had he still has the potential to be something more...a lot of people see it im sure thats why gbp are investing heavily in him it all comes down to ortiz...well soon see and i for one will def tune in when he fights

Definetely agree, those matches would be nice! One thing I would say is that I would really like him to train with Robert Garcia. That guy does wonders with brawlers and ortiz needs some more dimensions to his arsenal. he needs to tighten up his defense on the inside to. Here's my predictions: Ortiz vs. Josesito II - late TKO or wide UD vs. Maidana II - UD vs. berto II - Decision vs. Khan - KO vs. Lamont - Decision vs. Cotto - Tossup other champs vs Pauli Malig - def knock him out or brutally beat up vs. bradley/Alexander - see him squeking decisions in both fights vs Floyd II - losing a decision but possibly closer than Cotto vs. Guerrero - winning a decision I see him beating Josesito like he was before Maidana is a tough one, he can outbox him but he will get hit again and hard He Ko's Khan I agree He dec Peterson Cotto would be a tough fight, I see Cotto winning by dec He loses vs Floyd by TKO He loses to Guerrero by dec Beats Paulie Alexander would be very intriguing, close fight. Bradley, wow, there's a KO going to happen there.

Ortiz luckily found a way to parlay the coverage he got from that fight into his own Cologne, modeling gigs, and now Dancing With The Stars. Amazing that JUST four years ago, Ortiz was being dubbed the next "De La Hoya" Ortiz has ALWAYS had elite talent. Power in both hands, good chin, but his focus and heart (Outside of the Berto fight) has always been in question. If those two things ever caught up with his talent, he'd be in a different situation.

A dude losses a fight or 2 and automatically hes a bum or washed up, etc. If you look at the 147 LB champions (Paulie Malig/Tim Bradley/Devon Alex/Floyd), Ortiz has a shot to beat all of them with the acception of Floyd. He can even beat some of those champs @ 154 Lbs. I agree and that's one of the major problems with boxing today. Back in the day guys fought multiple times against one another and lost. Yet where still viable in the game. Nowadays fighters lose once and fans write them off. Again, I don't think Ortiz is an elite fighter but like you said, he can still beat most at 147 and even at 154. i would love to see him vs Khan, Peterson again, maybe even Cotto....there's entertaining fights to be had.

Like I said, if you're not one of the top 3 guys, your just a bum. Ortiz may and may not be something worth investing in, we don't know that yet but that has more to do with Ortiz' state of mind. I definetely dont agree with him quitting against Maidana and I feel like the Josesito incident was a freak accident but he has solid wins against Berto and Lamont (I know they called it a draw). I wouldnt be surprised if they are lining him up to redeem himself against the winner or loser of Maidana/Lopez, maybe a berto II would bring him back in the mix and possibly fight Khan down the road. I think he has a ton of good fights left in him, hes really young - people forget hes only in his mid 20's, he's still a bit immature but he will be back strong. The truth is that Ortiz is a really good fighter. He may not be elite, but he's no bum. He has speed, power and a good chin despite him quitting vs Maidana and having it broken. The shot he took from Berto and got up from was nothing short of amazing. He's a good looking kid and definitely marketable.
