I'm sure someone has noted this, but that is NY State commission. They give the fighter the entire minute (unless called over by the corner). So that is how that is.
What I can't understand is an official not allowing fighters to punch on the inside. That is what I am a bit puzzled about.
I think you will find most do. But there is also a bit of an acceptance on most for variety of reasons.
1) Joshua deserves the split he wants, even 70/30 is a massive increase on wilders biggest ever payday. Joshua now owns four of the five belts. Emphasis on wilder to make an offer which is acceptable.
2) He has continuously took on tough opposition. Even if he fought a Povetkin mandatory it would be tough. He is well within his right to do a normal voluntary, just look at wild ta resume to see how much more abusing of this option other Heavyweights have been.
3) Time is on his side, he is 28. Let’s be fair here, he’s still flew up the rankings so fast and we learn something new each fight about him. But at 28, even if specific fights are delayed then we know they can still happen.
4) other options - For me there are several fights available with appeal. Wilder (belts), Fury, Haye, Whyte2, Povetkin (mandatory), Ortiz, Miller (U.S). All good options for differing reasons.
1. He's already stated he'll go as low as 10/90 on the initial fight (as long as he gets that in the rematch). Seems acceptable to me.
2. Don't see it at all. If you are one fight away from becoming undisputed Heavyweight champion of the world, you should RUN toward that. Just like Wilder is. Remember, fighters have been ducking HIM...not vice-versa.
3. See #2.
4. See #2. (How you would not want your fighter to become undisputed is beyond me.)
I appreciate the response, but in the end nothing justifies *continuing* to delay the fight. The excuses are running out, IMO.
Let's also remember....even if they fought at 50/50 it will STILL be AJ's biggest payday too.
I'd think you UK fans would be grateful our champion is not holding the final belt hostage. He's BEGGING AJ to come and take it.
I am new to boxing, but based on what I've seen it appears that Anthony Joshua doesn't want to fight Deontay Wilder. I heard AJ say recently he is afraid to lose. Is that why he doesn't want to fight Wilder?
IMHO, AJ should fight Wilder even if he might lose. I respect Wilder more because he believes there should only be one champion and has been begging to fight Joshua.
Can anyone tell me why AJ is scared to lose?
Thank you for your responses!
I am fascinated at the new breed of UK boxing fans. I worked in this sport for nearly 20 years, and spent a portion of it in Belfast and London. This is late 80s. Back then the UK fans were great. Your typical hardcore, cigar-smoking, Guinness-drinking, TRUE fan who went to the weekly fights at the local 'leisure centre'.
Fast forward ~30 years and it has completely changed. My last fight there was Sheffield (Spence vs Brook) and it was mainly the whine and cheese, there to be seen, "hi we want to be the center of attention" type crowd. FEW of them knew their boxing history and it's become more of the "in" thing. London is worse.
It's natural, I suppose. Their country gets a new superstar, so you all these Zinfandel drinking yuppies, hosting dinner-parties while "the big AJ fight" plays in the background (although most of them have not watched more than a few fights in their lives).
After a few drinks they start feeling themselves then jump online and thump their chests about how "the UK rules boxing". That's been my experience, anyway.
Thats exactly whats going on right now. You can't go for a spot of tea right now without hearing banter about how Anthony Joshua is a big, muscular scardy cat that fears mighty Deontay Wilder. Its all the blokes in the UK talks about.
Yeah...I didn't see as many boxing fans as one would expect while there. I imagine it's the same ratio as here in the US. It's more than in the 80's/90's when I lived there, but the majority of those who claim to be fans now really only know AJ (and the guy he is ducking) but seem to know American boxers much better, however. I didn't run in to any truly knowledgeable fans, unfortunately. Very interesting, IMO.
So pretty much how I predicted:
1. Hurd just bullied Lara like a big mummy (and that is a reference not a jab--I been rocking with Hurd since 2013...on record calling him a future world champion at that time)
2. DeGale showed me some heart I did not think he did. Truax could not capitalize on his momentum and DeGale did what he had to do to win.
3. Nate did good. Andrew Zak is building a pretty good stable. J Rock is a good fighter who is building a pretty strong resume. He's kind of the Lamont Peterson of 54 (no shame ion that). Would like to see him fight Trout next.
He's the most dangerous heavyweight I've seen since Tyson, I know that. And I come from the 70's...I've seen them all since. The fact he is about to go over there and take belts after the shenanigans from last Saturday tells you all you need to know, IMO.
He's coming there for one thing and that is to knock AJ out just like he has with every other single fighter he has punched in professional boxing. Man I cannot wait. The US will have the undisputed heavyweight champion once again, and all is right with boxing. #you'll_see
Considering Brook just won some WBC sub-title and keeps calling on Charlo, why would the IBF be involved? And Khan has no interest in going to 154.
Never said Khan had interest in going to 54. Read through, please kind, sir. I ask about IBF specifically due to pre-fight mandatory weights. I am confident this fight will not be over 147. I think that is the only weight Khan has a chance to win. He came from 140, Brook moved up to 54 (lack of discipline IMO), so at a minimum you have to meet at 47.
MORE RANDOM BOXING THOUGHTS IN MY MIND TONIGHT....
Chris Colbert sold me tonight. I was curious how he would do against a real cat like Dulay. Smoked 'em. I think this dude is about to blow up. He beating everybody right now. Fights for a title in 18-24 months.
Lil Bhop and Shakur is nice match-up.
Tank and Shakur? Nah, Tank would eat him.
Haney and Shakur? Hmmm...
Tank and Haney? Damn. I want to see all these matchups.
BoxRec has mistakingly put Billy Joe Saunders vs Maurice Hooker for June 9th. Trust me, That is an error on them. I think they mean Terry Flanigan. Very sure of that. :-)
I'm not trying to be an arse or anything but I actually noticed this the other week and I'm a little confused.
Are you new to boxing or not?
Ha ha. Hey everyone, look at the stalker.
:haha: I'm fu*cking with ya.
Yeah, I guess it's how you define new. I know plenty of people that have been in this sh*t a lot longer than I have. Good work though on reading all my posts....hopefully you learned a little something. I seriously mean that :smileysex
But back to my question, do you have any idea why that it? Or, once again, am I missing something? I want to know WHY British fans say that.
If you can't see what a fool he's just made you look then there is nothing anyone can do for you because you're TOO lost.
So in other words you can't answer my question? Or did you just come in here in hopes of talking greasy to someone who you thought was new (as you consider it)? He meant no disrespect and I took none. Sit back down, cheerleader. Let the men handle this, my lady.
The Brits may call the UK the home of boxing because AJ is boxing's biggest star, plus we get huge crowds for a lot of our fighters.
Me personally, I don't think anywhere is the mecca of boxing. But if I had to pick i'd say the UK and the US.
Okay. Fair enough. I'll tell you though, after Wilder knocks AJ out, he will become the most popular fighter in all of boxing. Trust me...so in my mind, soon enough, they won't even have the biggest attraction. Interestingly enough, there are tons of threads to discuss what a "bum" and how "insignificant" Wilder is. I'm too lazy to find them like dude did, but trust me they are there. I know there will be an excuse even after Wilder knock'a out AJ...but that is just my opinion.
The Smith brothers are pretty well known in boxing circles, but beyond that, they're not really known.
Liam is the least known out of all of them though because he fights on Boxnation whereas the other 3 fight on Sky Sports.
I saw him fight Canelo. They were saying something about how Brit's travel, but I dunno...I saw 99% Canelo fans. In droves.
I thought Fury looked HORRIBLE. Seriously, I think Daniel Martz would have beaten Fury tonight.
Regarding Hooker...YES! I have no problem admitting, I did not think he could pull off a decision in the UK, but it is what it is. I had him winning 9 of the 12 rounds.
I laughed how Flanagan said "He's just another American" before the fight. And you know what? He's correct. Hooker (who is local so I ride with him) IS just another American. AND...Americans STAY smashing on UK boxers. It's been like that, it's like that now, and it will ALWAYS be like that.
#Real****
Fury has reduced himself to a circus freakshow.
I think that is a good way to sum this up. I mean look, we all understand he's been out "a thousand days" and needed to step carefully in his comeback fight...but this was a little too much if you ask me. Dude was aged, a Cruiserweight, and has no heart.
But all eyes were on Fury...and he looked like sh*t.
I mean wasn't the idea to either
--Get work?
or
--Smash on dude?
Neither happened. Instead Fury looked horrible and dude quit.
p.s,. America runs boxing. And if we say Fury looked like sh*t then he looked like sh*t. Why are you UK casuals tryna argue? We are the ones who know our boxing. Not you! SMH
Oh...and I think Fury looked horrible "toying" with this guy. I mean face it. Fury looked like sh*t. Plain and simple, Nothing was accomplished here. He can get better sparring at our local gym.
How is Wilder ducking Whyte when he's chasing the guy who knocked out Whyte? I mean c'mon. Let's at least keep this sensible. And who will pay him millions. And who will give them all those lovely belts (for which he has already named, BTW.).
If you you think you'll keep a man away from his children, I don't know what to tell you other than wait and see.
Wilder got offered 3 Mil+ all the American money at the beginning of 2017, he's took fights for far less and made excuses. He's ducking. You can have your opinion that Wilder would easily beat him, but the fact is if Wilder was as confident he'd take that fight.
Once again, how is someone ducking when they are actively chasing someone? Let's take a step back, and ask ourselves: "Who is chasing who, the strongest, in all of boxing right now?", and everyone knows it's Wilder chasing AJ. If they don't know then they need to educate themselves on boxing. Seriously man. I mean no offense, but how are you on a boxing forum talking to another fan talking about how Wilder is ducking AJ? Is this real? I'm only responding because your statement is that outlandish, so if you think that I can only suggest you truly learn about of what it is you speak. Once again, no offense...just some friendly advice. We agree to disagree. I mean the one thing we can debate is who will win, but the facts as we know them now is Wilder is as actively chasing AJ, as much if not more, than currently any fighter is chasing any other. I just don't see that as ducking. Maybe we have different definitions. I dunno...
Except Ortiz had his shot...as did Whyte. Put them on the undercard...sure. But make the elimination Miller vs Fury.
I got no problem with that either. I'm just saying as far as AJ goes...Wilder got next.
Rigo quitting like a ho surprised me. Fkin punk straight up i was never thrilled by his fights but i will never watch his fights again.
Degale getting beat by a journeyman i did not see that coming.
Yeah...I've been back and forth with DeGale. When he was woofing how he tied Jack (who has been in Savage mode) with a bum shoulder, I was listening...But the beauty of this sport we all love is the fact all things come to pass (reality introduces itself).
lol all good.
my surpridedness meter was off the charts when shafikov got merked by that journeyman as well, matey was like a 1/20 favorite.
edit: no i said degale was 1/100 to win. not truax being 100/1
Coolio. When you said 'he' I didn't know. p.s. Did you ever realize Carl Froch doesn't have any earlobes? WTF is up with that? :Thinkingo
Rigo by far, not expecting that ever.
Pascal didn't surprise me, people seemed to forget his experience, power, skill and above all else his heart.
Agreed. Plus Pascal was giving Alvarez the business quite often in his last fight. I'll miss watching ol dude.
degale no.5? nah.
he was a 1/100 favorite...
Pascal TKOing an untested prospect is not shocking at all.
Sorry....these aren't meant in any order of surpridedness....
BTW, Truax was anywhere from 16-1 to 20-1 dog depending on the Casino/Bookmaker. (Not no 100-1). Although that is my pick for SOW. Finally, I picked Pascal, but the oddsmaker didn't, so....;-)
I'm just happy to see J-Love get that pay day. I know a lot of people don't rock with him, but dude has been a soldier in this game. He's one guy I would like to see sit back and think "Choosing this career was worth it."
