We all saw the video of Wilder being hurt by Ortiz and whether the storm, walk back to his corner and then get checked by the Dr at the beginning of round 8.
Go to 1:48 of this video and see for yourself or find any video of Wilder weathering the storm in round 7 and walking back to his corner.

This is the difference between the UK and America, lmao. Just kidding.
And ref's separate them. That is why we have referees. Then again Ortiz should had come more prepared for the fight. He was gassed by the 6 round.
Ortiz wasn't gassed by the 6th round.
I'm sure someone has noted this, but that is NY State commission. They give the fighter the entire minute (unless called over by the corner). So that is how that is.
What I can't understand is an official not allowing fighters to punch on the inside. That is what I am a bit puzzled about.
fighters clinch all the time in that situation, and it was a few clinches, it wasn't a 45 second bear hugAnd ref's separate them. That is why we have referees. Then again Ortiz should had come more prepared for the fight. He was gassed by the 6 round.
You are right. i didn't see the doctor stopping the fight and checking out Ortiz. I have an issue with the ref letting hug Ortiz for so long in that seventh round.

My guess would be that it was just a one and done KD, and it wasn't him taking a battering. Also, like I mentioned on the first page, I thought Wilder was out on his feet until watching the video OP has posted. I've seen doctors do this in other NY fights too, judgement call. Wilder looked more hurt at the time, though after watching it a few times, Wilder doesn't look hurt at all, and Ortiz kind of stumbles back during the 8 count while angrily telling the ref that he's fine lol
Good answer...
I've seen Kovalev/Cleverly before but never realized the ref caught him as he was falling and carried him over to the corner. Incredible....
Lol @ Roy, "That's called 'home town cookin!'" :lol1:
Lmao rotf...
Why do you think Ortiz wasn't given extra time the round after he got knocked down though? You are right. i didn't see the doctor stopping the fight and checking out Ortiz. I have an issue with the ref letting hug Ortiz for so long in that seventh round.
Yes, but why wasn't he afforded extra time at the start of the round after the first knockdown? I just ask for consistency from officials and didn't seem it was all the way consistent.

He was. In the tenth round before the final KD, The Ref gave Ortiz way more time than usual, gave him the 8, checked if he was okay, had him step forward, asked if he was okay, checked his gloves, asked if he was okay...
Or did you mean the first KD? Pretty sure the bell rang right after the standing 8.

look at the final round and how much time ortiz was given on the second to last knockdown. a full 20 seconds between going down and wilder being allowed to follow up. extra precaution was taken for both fighters, just like all NY fights now.

It's standard procedure in New York now due to a legal settlement. Those crying about Wilder being checked clearly haven't watched many fights from NY lately.

I’m glad you pisted that video. I’ve known about the New York thing for a while now, but I honestly thought Wilder was out on his feet at the end of the round. First I’ve seen him walk back to his corner looking 100%
and I also read that same thing happened in lamont peterson's fight (one of the recent ones) and NO ONE said a damn thing

word lol I laugh cuz ortiz had almost a whole minute with wilder hurt and these poeple bitching about 8 secs

Good video, Wilder took those punches better than I thought.
Watching it live he looked more hurt. But on the replay it looked like he was able to weather the storm better than I had thought.
No wonder he didn’t go down.
Pretty good for a guy that was weight drained and starved from illness.
Yeah, when I watched it live I thought he was in a lot more trouble.

if anything...the break before round 8 gave old man ortiz more time to recover after punching himself out trying to get iron jaw wilder out of there....
