You can dislike/hate a fighter and still appreciate their talents. But appreciating talent is not what the thread is about.
except every fighter has annoying fans, yet you still make a decision who to like. Otherwise you will hate all fighters. please point me a fan base that doesnt have a lot of idiots.
There is a disconnect between your title and post. No liking him and not respecting him are completely different things. I don’t respect his hilariously padded record, his reign as a champion or his skills as a boxer. But I like the guy - even if he is as thick as a bag of cement - and I think he’s good for the division. Complete opposite of AJ tbh, whom I respect but don’t particularly like.
you are right, i guess usually like and respect in most cases go hand in hand but not always.
Yet he ducked Povetkin for the same reason without thinking twice
why he gave Ortiz a second chance but won't give Sasha?
you know why
Because Ortiz is old as dirt and looked in decline in his last couple fight
so Bumsquad thought, "hurr, old dude is slipping fast, I might be able to beat him after all. Time to gain some cred by beating someone who isn't a complete bum and looks good on paper hehe "
Windmiller has been a fraud most of his career and still has a lot to prove
and the only thing Wilder proved in the Ortiz fight, was that he has better stamina than the old man
Ortiz was outboxing him and was going to stop him before he gassed
He chose not to fight Povetkin but ended up fighting Ortiz, I think his post-fight interview was telling why he did that, and I don't think it is for the same reason's you stated. To be honest, if the fight had taken place back then i was rooting for Povetkin, but i think at this point i've changed my view on Wilder and if they end up fighting at any point in the future I would support Wilder.
I am not going to blame Wilder for the Povetkin fight not taking place, that is all on Povetkin. Wilder signed the fight, and was going into his opponents backyard, he did what he needed to.
His new found fans are annoying and fall under a tedious set of boxing fans that adopt a guy because they hate another fighter. That wouldn't normally be enough reason for me to dislike the man but he has also assaulted a woman, a fellow boxer in front of his terrified wife and children and I generally just don't root for or get behind a guy that's loud and obnoxious (though I understand marketing but it's my right to not be a fan) and has corny catch phrases like "Bomb Squad".
I also don't particularly enjoy watching a fighter with his style and technique though I respect his power. He was also protected for a very long time and took his first semi-risk very deep into his career after a lot of useless fights despite many other fighters wanting a fight with him. So throw that all together and I can see why someone wouldn't like him.
That's fair i can't recall what happened as far as the assult case will look into it.
Wilder had a very small amateur career to speak of, his pro career was majority of his training, if he took his time he took his time, that isn't a big deal. The problem I have with ass holes like you is why do you care that he fought poor competition before? he just fought one of the best heavyweights and wants to fight the best heavyweight so what is the problem?
Why are you pushing such a stupid argument?
Every fighter deserves respect, that doesn't mean people can't expect more of them, or be critical.
Agreed, but reading these boards makes you wonder how much respect fighters actually get.
How amazing, 40 fights before taking on a threat. Jesus you guys have low expectations of fighters these days
I've posted it in another thread but he had no amateur career to speak of so yeah his resume sucks for the early parts but is improving and his last fight was against a top 5 heavyweight.
Me and you both vigorously defend Golovkins resume because he had a hard time getting markee names to fight him, i am not looking to turn it into a resume thread on Wilder as his resume isn't great but he is fighting the best now and wants to fight the best going forward, can't really knock that down.
Wilder is nothing but a duck, keep making excuses for your master :D
a positive opinion on wilder makes him my master? retarded logic... might as well block because clearly you don't have a valid opinion or at least not able to express it in any valid way.
what's your point Larry? how many champs can you have on your resume when you are the most avoided fighter in your devision through your prime? and then end up taking most of the titles because others would rather vacate than fight you?
Lomachenko has reached god status in the eyes of almost everyone and now everyone thinks that size doesn't seem to matter... but it does, especially in a physical fight. I am expecting a tough win for Lomachenko but wouldn't be shocked if Linares wins.
np, what I found really interesting is that Egis doesn't have written contracts with his clients (if true that's just madness but makes sense if you want to build trust)
i think hes clearly p4p number 1 as it is, diaz burns and indongo clearly doesnt compare to walters, rigondeaux and russell jr. theres an even bigger gap if he beats linares, which he will.
I think Canelo has a better resume than Crawford.
i want GGG to win, i am not sure if he will. The Vanes fight isn't fooling me too much because it was only 2 rounds and i am just curious how old GGG would look if fight goes 6+ rounds, i think that's where we will start noticing the difference.
Davis is fighting a challenge next. Look it up. He wants to fight Loma after that. Compare that to this guy you are defending.
oh he wants to fight Loma... makes all right for all the ducking he has been doing so far... but you are right GGG didn't want to fight Canelo... he didn't fight Jacobs and he consistently avoided top 10 middleweights for the last part of the decade...
but but but Davis wants to fight Loma... you pulling at straws boy.
When GGG fought his ibf mandatory Dominic Wade, I have seen criticisms go through the roof, ****ting on his choices of opponents. Now that he pursues a better fight than his mandatory, the usual hypocrites are happy to see his belt gone.
This just shows that there is a certain group of people no one can win with. This happened to Floyd, Pac, GGG, Loma etc etc. We have seen this kind of scenario over and over again.
I personally do not mind IBF's decision because they actually enforce their rules. However, my question to the forum dwellers is that why are you folks not consistent with your hate? Are you guys actually missing a couple of brain cells or just trolling? Both cases would be pretty tragic.
agreed trolls are inconsistent. I also agree that they should have stripped him and I am a big GGG fan
If I had waited a few minutes before I posted you would have captured my thoughts pretty exactly.
I think most logically sound boxing fans feel that way.
So there is this fighter, who has one of the longest knockouts streaks, undefeated, controlled 3 out of 4 major belts, fought the best fighters in his division over the better part of the decade. only on NSB a fighter with such a description could fall under the B+ category... imagine how hard it is to be A or A+, I would suspect that in the history of the sport only 2-3 fighters made the A or A+ rating.
H2H top of the line elite fighter who would give the best middleweights a tough fight and would be 50/50 to win against them in my eyes. Resume very strong but nothing crazy.
Personally, I think he is outside his prime at this point, logically speaking (i mean he is what 36/37... that's old for a fighter). One of the best power jabs, one of the best Chins, Crazy stamina, very good fundamentals and boxing IQ. I wish that he had a chance to mix it up with the best of them in his early 30s... but unfortunately, the best waited until he was out of his physical prime to mix it up.
Marquez would beg to differ. 42 rounds
Marquez was paquios kryptonite but even then if I had to bet who would win more fights in their prime against eachothers I would choose paquio... never the less Marquez is as even as it gets with paquio
Your #3 is completely wrong! If Canelo dosnt get the exact same split as the last fight then there’s a risk he won’t make as much as the last fight! The other part your also wrong is Look Canelo can fight a someone else and pay him way less than ggg and make the same amount he would vs ggg!!! Don’t kid yourself!!!
I doubt it. who can he fight that would do even half the numbers that the rematch would do? even if he pays someone nothing he has to do close to half the PPV sales.
