Never was a Wilder fan up until his last fight. He could have avoided Ortiz with a legitimate excuse that Ortiz is a drug cheat but he didn't. He took a tough fight and pulled through, he took some punishment and showed grit... I don't agree with everything he says and his resume isn't great, but he always comes to fight, always comes to knock you out, always pushes for a clean sport and always tries to hype fights.
It looks to me that people don't like Wilder because of 1) his fans or 2) he is a threat to their favorite fighter. If you don't fall under reason 1 or 2 then why would you not like the guy? what's your reason?
I would say the main reason is - many many boxing fans suck. Every fighters fans. I read some things here and I can't believe people type them. The retarded fanboy names, the disrespect, the complete lack of acknowledgement of certain things, blatant ignorance etc etc etc. At first I thought these people were like, joke or troll accounts but it seems not.
I just don't think we should be congratulating someone for fighting one tough fight in 40 lol. Joshua overtook him in less than Half the fights and he wasn't really that experienced as an amateur. They both placed on the podium. You've got Joyce trying to fight chisora after 3 fights lol, wilder was facing people like Jason gavern after 30.
Yet you lick ggg ball sack and he didn’t fight a credible opponent until after his 40th win.
Please tell me outside of the Klitschko brothers, what other heavyweight has been a HOF of future HOF in the last decade? Who else was a threat? He fought Stiverne who was a credible threat. He was willing to fight Povetkin but dude was in Peds. I’m no wilder fan but who else was he suppose to fight? The HW division is heating up and he’s see an opponent that’s on his level now he wants to fight him.
As I've said on other threads, this is the weakest HW division in the history of the sport. He is getting the respect he has earned.
I think all fighters deserve their respect .....Wilder and Josh both have minimal amateur pedigrees and joshua stepped up a lot quicker , so I can see one side of the argument , but at the same time as of late wilder has proven himself as a legit threat and THE guy for joshua to fight . This fight needs to happen next ....if it doesn't happen after interim fights I will CRUCIFY team joshua , and if it doesn't happen next I still won't be happy . In a perfect world this fight is next , but let's see if aj beats Parker first and then start making assumptions
Bottom line wilder deserves respect
I'd say he's getting exactly the respect he has earned. He is 40 fights into his career and hasn't fought a future HOF'er, or even someone who would have been considered a legit threat in the division a decade prior. And his boxing skills leave a lot to be desired.

What I don't like about Wilder is his constant bragging on himself to excess and his disrespect for all other heavyweights past and present. He has declared himself the greatest heavyweight in history and says he would have destroy the great heavyweights of the past like Tyson and Ali. I have seen him fight many times and I don't think he could beat the better heavyweights of the past. I give him credit for fighting and beating a top 5 world rated heavyweight in Ortiz. But he has been WBC champion a long time. He should have been defending his title against much better fighters than the ones he fought for his title. I don't hate him and he is a decent heavyweight with a hell of straight right. He is fun to watch with his crazy windmill attack. I am just not a big Wilder fan. I think heavyweight is fairly a weak weight class now. He could be the best heavyweight of today but I think he will be defeated soon if he fights the best heavyweights in the world.
You think Wilder is more skillful than Lomachenko, GGG, Rigo, Bivol, Usyk, Marquez etc;
Who said he was more skilled? Why you always assume?? D.Wilder has the eraser & in the heavyweight division that's all you need. Hearn is doing a bob arum like he did with manny by stalling but he forgot that manny got K.O.'d by Marquez....hearn shouldn't stall or it might be too late.
Yet he ducked Povetkin for the same reason without thinking twice
why he gave Ortiz a second chance but won't give Sasha?
you know why
Because Ortiz is old as dirt and looked in decline in his last couple fight
so Bumsquad thought, "hurr, old dude is slipping fast, I might be able to beat him after all. Time to gain some cred by beating someone who isn't a complete bum and looks good on paper hehe "
Windmiller has been a fraud most of his career and still has a lot to prove
and the only thing Wilder proved in the Ortiz fight, was that he has better stamina than the old man
Ortiz was outboxing him and was going to stop him before he gassed
D.Wilder was beating Ortiz in a close fight & Ortiz would beat Povetkin.
His new found fans are annoying and fall under a tedious set of boxing fans that adopt a guy because they hate another fighter. That wouldn't normally be enough reason for me to dislike the man but he has also assaulted a woman, a fellow boxer in front of his terrified wife and children and I generally just don't root for or get behind a guy that's loud and obnoxious (though I understand marketing but it's my right to not be a fan) and has corny catch phrases like "Bomb Squad".
I also don't particularly enjoy watching a fighter with his style and technique though I respect his power. He was also protected for a very long time and took his first semi-risk very deep into his career after a lot of useless fights despite many other fighters wanting a fight with him. So throw that all together and I can see why someone wouldn't like him.
They don't like him cuz they FEAR him.......

So why don't you say the same about lil g?
How amazing, 40 fights before taking on a threat. Jesus you guys have low expectations of fighters these days
lil g did 36 in a row so why do you not say it about lil g?

He chose not to fight Povetkin but ended up fighting Ortiz, I think his post-fight interview was telling why he did that, and I don't think it is for the same reason's you stated. To be honest, if the fight had taken place back then i was rooting for Povetkin, but i think at this point i've changed my view on Wilder and if they end up fighting at any point in the future I would support Wilder.
I am not going to blame Wilder for the Povetkin fight not taking place, that is all on Povetkin. Wilder signed the fight, and was going into his opponents backyard, he did what he needed to.
There is a disconnect between your title and post. No liking him and not respecting him are completely different things. I don’t respect his hilariously padded record, his reign as a champion or his skills as a boxer. But I like the guy - even if he is as thick as a bag of cement - and I think he’s good for the division. Complete opposite of AJ tbh, whom I respect but don’t particularly like.
you are right, i guess usually like and respect in most cases go hand in hand but not always.

That's fair i can't recall what happened as far as the assult case will look into it.
