it's been 48-hours, and i still have not gotten any word regarding teddy atlas' source or anything to support his bold claim during espn's friday night fights seen by hundreds of thousands, if not millions of viewers worldwide.
Atlas said that through an unnamed "reliable source", someone from team pacquiao had sent an e-mail to mayweather's camp inquiring about the consequences of their blood testing request. Allegedly, a member of team pacquiao had asked team mayweather if they could keep things secret to save the integrity of boxing in case pacquiao is found guilty of doping.
However, **********.com broke a story recently stating that atlas' story is false. They quoted pacquiao's promoter bob arum saying that the alleged e-mail "does not exist" and that espn should issue an apology soon for not checking their facts.
If this is indeed true, atlas should be accountable for such irresponsible statements. Whether his intent was to try and get in the middle of the much-debated pacquiao-mayweather issue and deliver a "scoop" or he is simply biased against pacquiao is something only he knows for himself but the fact of the matter is, if atlas can't produce his source or any proof regarding his implicating statement, then he should definitely be fired from espn for spreading bogus information. I'm sure pacquiao's lawyers are already (if they haven't yet) entertaining thoughts of including him in their defamation lawsuit.
Coincidentally, atlas' statement is already in the lawsuit and was stated on page 8 and line 21 citing tim smith's article in the new york daily news published on december 25, 2009. As stated in the lawsuit, team pacquiao vehemently denied the rumor and wrote that it was a member of team mayweather that probably leaked that information.
So what was atlas trying to do? Further create turmoil in an already murky situation? He kept mentioning the blue-collar guy and casual fans' perception of the matter yet he further indulged the same naive notions he mentioned and submerged the public under more baseless accusations. If he was so sure about his source and his story, then why not reveal all the facts instead of implying and hiding his damaging remarks behind "anonymous sources"?
This is what's wrong with boxing. The politics. The lies. The misinformation. It's just unappetizing. You'd think these old people who have gotten rich off the sport would give back to it and think about it's integrity first before blurting out baseless accusations. What happened to loving the sport and reporting facts? Atlas got some explaining to do. And for the sake of boxing, i hope he does back up his claims. Enough people have been led and misled to a certain belief. Either way, people deserve and need to see facts. Just like what you see inside a real atlas.
you nailed it right here!
I dont think his fights against Morales, Barrera, Marquez elevates him over Floyd. Floyd had a stellar career at 130-135 as well. I dont know too many people who will try to argue that Coralles, Hernandez, Chavez, Manfredy, Augustus, Castillo, are bums
His fights against Morales, Barrera or Marquez (Future Hall of Famers) didn't elevate him over Floyd. But his amazing wins against Hatton, Oscar and Cotto and beating he did to them did.
winkys defense @ his prime was IMPREGNABLE!\!!!!!
not even close imo !
CO-SIGN!
Clottey only has his high guard on his arsenal, He isn't that brilliant defensively
IMO but he makes up for it in his ability to absorb punches that goes inside his
guard. for me he's a hardy fighter not a defensive genius.
i think to an extent yes. but speed is always best power. unless ur george foreman
AGREE! Speed is key. Like Manny has power but he didn't lose the speed going up in weight. PLUS he is one of the unique fighters with insane leverage when throwing his punches with total commitment, perfect follow-through that adds up a ring to the punch when it hits. Some power punchers is quick too but doesn't have that follow through they either recoils quickly for defense or has lesser leverage so when they fight guys above their weight class it would take a few punch to take its tool.
Pacquiao doesn't want to have his blood taken too close to the fight, something the USADA and the Olympics require. But this isn't the Olympics, and the USADA has no jurisdiction. This is boxing, which has its own rules in place (in this case, the Nevada State Athletic Commission's). Pacquiao will be tested during the run-up to the fight, and immediately after it — like every other boxer ever.
If Mayweather wants to submit to an extra test for no reason whatsoever, more power to him. But to point to Pacquiao playing by the rules and using that to imply he's cheating? That's just...well, it's boxing, and that's just good old fashioned psychological warfare.
1. mayweather didn't get slower.
2. he was less offensive but that had nothing to do with weight. he just threw less combos and was less willing to engage because of hand problems and because he was fighting bigger men.
3. his power is the same. you don't lose power moving up. the guys in the heavier divisions just take a punch better. also see #2. that also lessens your ko rates. less punches you throw , less chance you'll hurt or ko someone.
4. pacquiao's power did somewhat improved. that's what happens you don't cut weight for a fight as much and when you get slightly heavier. only improvement in pacquiao is that his technique got better and his opponents can't handle his speed as well as his opponents in the lighter divisions who were faster and fought faster opponents.
just like mayweather's opponents at 140-154 was less able to cope with mayweather's speed compared to the guys he fought in the lower divisions who were more use to seeing faster guys. only difference is mayweather was less offensive as you say.
man.... u hit it right on the money right here.... this is what i call a sensible post.....
"Yes of course it does. I mean I have no evidence, but if it's Manny, it must have been something other than hardwork, training, and determination. I mean look at him. He's just a little Asian guy. He's not supposed to be tearing everybodys asses up.
Hey, thats being racist dude?!?
So Zombie weight drained Oscar is a good win?
GTFOH!
its a big name and I know Oscar did it to himself but still its not a good win
I think Floyds distruction of JMM is a far better win that Pac over Hoya
It was a good win. Majority of the people didnt thought Pac has a chance against Oscar(including you, i presume), while everyone myself included knows that Floyd would beat JMM at that weight. JMM at 144 isnt the same with JMM at 130, just as Oscar 154 is not the same when he was at 147. But the way Manny dominated ODH was insane, u cant deny that.
paquiao beat clottey more covincingly than other other WW would
I wouldn't actually think Clottey would employ the same tactic on Floyd. I mean yes that high-guard-peek-a-boo would be useful for some period but i doubt seeing him use it with regularity like he did against Pacquiao. Pac's such a machine and Clottey was playing too safe or didn't take too much risk he just covered up most of the fight. I could see Clottey and Floyd playing the "aggressor" alternately. But I see Floyd gaining a few rounds and Box his way to victory with Clottey playing the aggressor at later rounds.
exactly, pacquiao discouraged him with his aggression, mayweather wouldnt do this and it would be a vey very boring fight
Yeah... i agree...
But I have feeling Clottey would look more competitive against Floyd then he did against Pac. One Score card had it at 120-108. Don't get me wrong Floyd could still win via UD. But it could be probably around 115-112.
yah but im saying here exact moves of clottey.
Hmmmm that would be easy....
When Clottey is on high guard early Floyd would test it initially throw a couple of punches but wouldn't try to break through it.
If Clottey would be on Turtle mode... he'd just stare at Clottey. LoL
Its not about a country needing a fighter to stop crime or something, its just a testament to how MOST Filipinos love, watch and support PACMAN every time he fights. Americans are not that much endearing with Floyd.
Back here in the Phils. when Manny fights you could lay flat on the road and no car would ran you over. lol!
as far i know as long as your not hitting the back of the head its all go when your head hunting. I've seen guys get hit on the ears and it was okay. so why not hit two ears at the same time. LoL
Why must the hating on Floyd continue, why??? Like it or not, Floyd Mayweather Jr. shuts the mouth of his opposition and overcame everyone he has faced. i remember when roy said in that song, "they said i didnt fight nobody, i just made em look like nobody..".
Some boxing fans are funny man, you wanna see a man busted up and struggle for a win and then say.."oh he's great, look how he pulled through, etc.." but when you dominate and dont even make it look challenging, people say "oh, the other guy wasnt a good enough opponent, he needs to fight so-and-so.." its a never ending cycle..
1. Floyd is the greatest and will beat the $hit out of Manny.
2. Manny not agreeing to the drug test makes him look suspicious, if it were me, id take the test to prove i was clean, and then administer an ass whipping to my accuser, it'll be like a grudge match.. but he cant... he knows in his heart that Floyd is too much for him.
3. If manny agrees and fights, then on march 13th his reign will be over and i think he nor his people are ready to stop riding that gravy train yet.
The Fact that Floyd ask Manny with such conditions for the drug test simply implies that, Floyd actually believes that Manny has a chance of beating him.
my take with no. 1: I'll have to see that fight, but i can picture it better as Pacman beating the sh*t out of Floyd than the other way around. Pacman is too dangerous for Floyd he'l fight intelligently with him, If Floyd wins tough it will be a split(like With ODLH) or UD at most.
my take on 2:It would really put it like that but Manny agreed on the test but not as random as Floyd wants it though, but come on give the guy respect he earned his way up to where he is now.(much respect with Floyd too).
it could have been just a s simple as: if u want to fight me? say YES... no buts just say Yes.
No. 3. same with 2. but if he gets beaten his mark on the Boxing is already sealed. If He wins tough His Legend will be bigger than it already is.
If Floyd wins. then his long time claim of fighting the best and beating the best would finally be etched on boxing's holy tablet.
If he Losses. His legacy would be remembered but his career would be over unless he fights another top dog.
I'm shocked that people even see this as normal. It's not normal to accuse another fighter without any other reason but that they beat people in good fashion. Floyd jr doesn't care if he makes sense or not. Its out of order to try and damage another fighters career full stop. Does that make sense people? A fighter trains hard all his life to eventually get the credit for his accomplishments. I'm so glad that Manny Pacquiao has put his foot down against those crooks. Now that they have to deal with a court who don't take any nonsense they will have to think about their actions.
i agree on this!!!!!
Mayweather shdnt been bitching at the 1st place...
now, mayweather wont get his money.
pacquiao files lawsuit clears his name... maySr, mayjr GBP gets to pay PAc
for the damages....
pac gets his millions without breaking a sweat....
"Throughout this whole process I have remained patient, but at this point I am thoroughly disgusted that Pacquiao and his representatives are trying to blame me for the fight not happening when clearly the blame is on them.
WOW! Floyd really wrote this?
hahah....I really had doubts regarding the words came around after mediation esp. if they're from Arum, but 14 days is pretty much a compromise.
Im not sure what to believe. Enlighten me pls?
Although I still have the feeling the fight will happen later this year, trust me it will happen.
They met, and met, and met. The camps for Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. met for nine hours on Tuesday before mediator Daniel Weinstein at his office in Santa Monica, California. As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Top Rank's Bob Arum and Todd deBoef set a meeting before Weinstein with Oscar De La Hoya and Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions. Their legals teams were there, and so was Mayweather's adviser Al Haymon.]
May-Pac Fight is of course what all the people would want. Pac-Foreman is a decent match-up, since you cant totally say Pac would chop Yuri up and moving into 154 is a huge challenge for him. The May-Paulie match up however is a different story, come on this is a Floyd UD waiting to happen plus Paulie doesn't give May some form of a threat imo.
"If Mayweather wants to submit to an extra test for no reason whatsoever, more power to him. But to point to Pacquiao playing by the rules and using that to imply he's cheating? That's just...well, it's boxing, and that's just good old fashioned psychological warfare." quoted from a link. deadspin dot com
anyways, i can see this as something that makes "the plot thickens"
fans get so wild some mixed reaction, but at the end of the day this fights gonna push through and manny's gonna submit to that blood test
